SOIRYE'S P. O. V

"I HATE HIM, I HATE HIM, I HATE HIM!”

Unan ko—so basically, I'm back to my very own room.

I can't believe I was able to ride on everything Damon wanted overnight! Kabaliwan mang isipin, pero wala na. Nandito na. I was already married with him. With the man I barely know.

And after that roller-coaster ride overnight, I'm back again with my usual. It was secretive.

That will surely make a huge feast among the media. Not only Damon is a public figure himself. And as of me… well, hindi ko naman sinasabi na sikat ako pero hindi ko rin ide-deny na marami-rami rin ang nakakakilala sa akin.

I am Winter Soirye Galveza. The fourth generation to hold the legacy of the longest-running publishing company in all of Asia—the Aldine Press. Originally, it was made to publish local and international country news. The usual—accidents, weather forecasts, casualties, and such. But not until my reign. Since I took over the position, the Aldine Press took its most innovative step up. I was know in the field as Winter G. Kinatatakutan ng maraming personalities lalo na ng mga aware na may hindi sila ginagawang maganda. And the opposite comes to worst.

That's also the reason why I chose not to disclose my real identity to Damon. Yes, I may come to him for rescue. He also made use of my body already.

This is the first time that I will be looking at it this close. The ring looks nice. The ring itself looks like it is made out of platinum. And the diamond rock in the middle… Gosh. It's clearly worth millions!

"Kung sakaling indian-in mo 'ko sa usapan natin, I think this diamond ring could compensate enough. Bonus na lang kapag pinagpiyestahan ng crowd 'yung pribadong buhay mo. Or should I say, the monthly issue of Pepper that features you is the real price; at itong diamond ring ang bonus lang?”

I smiled.

"See you again tomorrow, my precious. For now, let's take a rest first. We both need that, I know,” usal ko sa sarili.

With a wide smile, I gently laid my back on my soft, comfy bed. Another crazy day, indeed. Bukas, balik na nman ako sa dati. I have to regain my energy after Damon drained all out of me. Iykyk.

***

THE NEXT MORNING, I WAS UP AS EARLY AS 5 A.M.

Body clock ko na 'yon. Then I'll have my usual morning double shot espresso to keep me going throughout my day. Hygiene routine plus my lucky charm—my eyeglasses—and I'm ready to go.

When I entered the building, I was greeted and followed by all the varieties of looks, I guess. May halatang gulat, natataranta, and whatever they all feel like feeling. I don't care anyway dahil anu't-ano man ang nararamdaman nila, iisa lang din naman ang end point at result. They all look so pathetic.

"Good morning, Kyree,” I greeted my assistant the moment I swiftly entered my office's huge glass door.

Kyree immediately stood up. Bigla siyang nataranta upon seeing me. Maybe because I caught him red-handed, sitting on my very own thrown?

"Madam! I don't know you are back! Hindi ka naman nagpasabi, Madam! How's your trip—”

"Of course, you don't know that I'm back. Kasi if you know, malamang na hindi ka uupo sa chair ko, right?” I said in a demure voice.

"H-Hindi naman sa gano'n, Madam. Pero kasi—”

"How's everything in here? No'ng tumawag ka, parang ang laki-laki ng problema rito, as if the whole building was about to collapse,” putol ko sa kanya. I walked towards my table and was about to sit when I remembered something. So instead of sitting, I pushed my special chair away by using just my index finger. "Call the maintenance, please. Ipalinis mo 'to or better yet, ipabili mo 'ko ng bago. I want the same design, same feels… basta. I want it now—”

"Eh… Madam, seryoso? Pero 'di ba limited edition ang chair 'to—”

"Do as I say or bid farewell to your job?” I looked at him with my eyebrows arched. "And seriously, saan mo 'ko gustong paupuin the whole duration of my today's job?

"But, Madam—”

"What I hated the most, is those person who wants to take my position. You should know it better, Kyree. You're my assistant, after all.”

"Pero, Madam—” I raised my hand to signal him to stop. Hindi naman na siya nagsalita pa. I just heard his footsteps on his way outside.

After Kyree left, I immediately took my laptop. I opened my email to disseminate a message.

Emergency meeting—ASAP. Same rules, same command.

Sinara ko ulit 'yung laptop. Then I stared at my wristwatch for a moment. Ten… Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Five… Four… Three… Two…

I picked up my bag and calmly walked towards the door.

When they all saw me, they stood up and paid respect.

"Good morning, Ma'am—”

"Close the door. Everybody, tell those who are not yet here to leave this building accordingly as their separation pay will be wired to them before this day ends,” I interrupted their greeting.

Walang nagtangkang umimik sa kahit sino sa kanila. The only sound I am hearing was the 'tick' that came from the locked door.

I walked confidently to the front.

"Umupo 'yung mga gustong umupo. To those who want to get tired this early, remain standing,” sabi ko.

Lahat naman sila ay nag-uunahang umupo.

"As you all know, I was gone for a day. My reason? It's not for you to know,” pagsisimula ko. "Anyone here named "Wyna"?”

"Are you Wyna?” I asked.

"Yes, Ma'am,” she proudly said in return. Tatayo pa sana siya pero itinaas ko na ang isang kamay ko para pigilan siya.

"I just asked for an answer. Did I tell you to stand up?” tanong ko.

"N-No, Ma'am—”

"Before you entered this company—my company, you signed a contract, yes? Ilang kontrata ang pinirmahan mo?”

"D-Dalawa po—”

"And those contracts were…?”

"E-Employment Contract and Grounds for Automated Termination—”

"That's right. Nabasa mo naman siguro 'yung isa sa mga key points ng GAT, tama ba 'ko? The one that tackles about… the avoidance of spreading fake news. Aware ka ba ro'n?” tanong ko ulit.

Hindi na siya nagsalita. She simply nodded her head to answer me.

"Then where the hell did you get your strength to oppose that rule?”

"M-Ma'am… H-Hindi ko po alam 'yung sinasabi n'yo—”

"And look, you even had the guts to deny it now. Okay. I'm not gonna be sorry for this 'cause this is what you asked for.” I looked at everyone in the conference room. "All of you. Who spread the news that Damon Ignaci was still here last night? Those who won't be pointing to anyone, leave.”

But after a while, they all started pointing their fingers to one direction—kay "Wyna".

Nataranta agad 'yung babae at napatayo pa.

"M-Ma'am Winter… H-Hindi ko po intention na magkalat ng fake news. B-Base lang po talaga sa source ko, nandito pa raw si Damon Ignaci kaya napagdesisyunan kong i-grab 'yung opportunity kasi… k-kasi 'di ba, kayo na rin naman 'yung nagsabi? Worth the risk si Damon Ignaci kasi—”

"What's your position again?” I interrupted her delirious claims.

"Sports—”

"What are you in the sports department?”

"P-Proofreader—”

"See? You're not a researcher. You're not even a writer. So, who gave you the write to meddle with other's task? And one more thing, what's that you said again? Napagdesisyunan mo? Who are you to decide on yourself? And please note that what you did isn't all about taking risk. Nangealam ka lang, nagbida-bida, and that's it. Now, leave,” I firmly said.

Lalong nagdeliryo 'yung babae at mukhang may balak pang manakit. She's being aggressive and begging for another chance at the same time. Para siyang biglang nabaliw.

I immediately ordered to call for security. Nalabas din agad 'yung babae and now is my cue to head to the main business.

"I was gone for just a day and most of you messed up. Akala ko ba, fit for the role kayong lahat na nandito? I gave you a day to prove it and no one of you did well?” puno ng disappointment kong saad. "Literally no one.”

I was staring at Kyree the whole time while saying those words. Well, he really should be. Swerte na siya na hahayaan ko pa siyang makapag-stay sa trabaho niya bilang assistant ko when in fact, kayang-kaya ko siyang palitan in just a snap of my fingers.

"All of you. I'll be giving you another chance to prove yourself. But this will be the last. After this, kapag pumalpak pa kayo, mag-goodbye na kayo sa career n'yo rito. Because in case you forgot, dalawang major rule lang naman ang pinapairal ko rito—prove yourself to me, then you're good; but show me your bad attitude, I'll be the baddest bitch you'll wish you never had mess with.” I smiled wickedly. "I hope, this clears all. Last chance.”

"That's all for today. As for our issue for the next month, sa monthly meeting ko na lang ita-tackle. Everybody, back to work!”

I was left alone with Kyree—na as soon as makalabas na lahat ng tao ay nilapitan ako agad.

"Madam, thank you sa second chance. Thank you, hindi mo 'ko pinagsama sa mga nasibak—”

"Hindi ka pa abswelto. You can still lose your job if the chair won't be here before noon,” paalala ko sa kanya.

I stopped walking for a bit just to take a glance at him.

"You know Raizen Policarpio?” tanong ko sa kanya.

"Raizen Poli… Teka, oo! S'ya 'yung sikat na starlet ngayon na over the moon ang kasikatan at kabi-kabila ang guestings, projects, at shows kahit obvious naman na walang talent ang bagets!” bulalas ni Kyree.

"Yeah, that's him. A legitimate source told me the "reason" behind his sudden skyrocketing fame. And he will be our subject next month. Special subject.”

"CONFIRMED, MADAM! SABI KO NA NGA BA, MAY SOMETHING FISHY D'YAN SA RAIZEN NA 'YAN!”Kyree tsked as we watch a familiar figure from afar. Naka-park kami ilang hakbang ang layo sa harapan ng isang tagong restaurant. Iyong pinapanood namin? It was Raizen Policarpio—the same "talent" na pinag-uusapan namin kani-kanina lang. That Raizen Policarpio is definitely a newbie in the entertainment industry. He's probably in his early twenties. May dating ito at hindi maitatangging malakas ang karisma. Pero kung talent at talent lang din ang pag-uusapan ay obvious na waley ito. Kaya nakakapagtaka na sa kabila no'n at kabi-kabila pa rin ang projects na involved ang batang aktor. Maraming nagsasabi na may mas "malalim" na dahilan kung bakit gano'n."That man he is with, pamilyar siya sa akin. Isn't he one of the executive directors of the most famous T.V. network?” saad ko."Oo nga! Shet, I think I know him! Teka lang, Madam, ha? Aalalahanin ko kung sino… Ahah!” Malakas na napapalakpak si Kyree. Nap

"YOU'RE REALLY AMAZING, MY SOIRYE. YOU NEVER FAILED TO AMUSE AND SATISFY ME.”Damon planted a soft kiss on the side of my forehead as he drew me closer to him. Hindi ko naman magawang sumagot dahil abala ang utak ko sa pagsisisi. Nagsisisi ako sa desisyon ko na nagpadala na naman ako sa mga pang aakit n'ya. I was happy for what we did, yes. Pero naa-anticipate ko na kung ano ang mga susunod na mangyayari; and with that, I was never happy. I will never be."My Soirye…” Hindi pa rin ako sumagot. "I missed this. I missed… you.”I remained silent as I stare at the ceiling of the hotel room where we chose to stay. Hindi ko binigay sa kanya 'yung address ko dahil unang-una, ayokong mabahiran ng kahit anong bakas n'ya ang bahay ko. That was the only safe place I have. That was the only space that remains pure and peaceful. Kung may lugar man na ayokong mabahiran ng magulong sistema ng trabaho at affairs ko, 'yon ay walang iba kundi ang bahay ko. And nor will I let Damon invade that personal

"HOW'S THE INTERVIEW WITH RAIZEN POLICARPIO AT SA KANYANG ANGKAN—”"Shut the hell up, Kyree. I'm not in the mood.”Pabalibag kong nilapag ang bag ko sa table at pabagsak akong umupo sa bagung-bago na signature chair ko. I close my eyes tight as I start to massage my temple."Get me my usual double shot espresso. Make it two,” utos ko habang minamasahe pa rin ang sentido ko."Parang stress na stress ka naman, madam. Kalmahan mo lang—”"Am I asking for your comfort? Can't you just give what I am asking you to? Daldal!” I interrupted him."Y-Yes, Madam.” Kahit na late ako sa interview na hiningi ko sa panig ni Raizen, they still had no choice but to let me in. The interview went well; intense, just like my previous interviews. Always. But even so, that won't erase the fact that I, Winter G., finally broke my record against tardiness. I feel so unprofessional after everything that happened. And all of that was caused by Damo

It's been weeks since I first notice those eerie men in black who seem to follow me. And right there and then, I know I have to end this. And I'm more than dedicated to do so. As I adjust the collar of my dress, I could feel the air hung thick with tension. My reflection staring back at me from the mirror. That didn't change the fact that he's so nervous. Pwede pa naman tayong mag-back out," he asked. As if gusto ko rin gawin 'to. To set the records straight, I don't want to do this either. But I have to.” Tinitigan ko s'ya ng matalin sa pamamagitan ng salamin. "Kaya tigilan mo na 'ko sa pag iinarte mo. A month had passed since the encounter I had with Damon on the rooftop bar. The memory of his chilling words, his unsettling aura, still lingered in my mind. I had tried to move on, to focus on my work, to pretend that the whole ordeal was just a bad dream. But the constant shadow of fear, the knowledge that I was being watched, never left me.Pagkatapos no'n, wala na namang naging paramdam si Damon. Then, one morning, I woke up to a phone buzzing relentlessly. It was Damon, his name flashing across the screen. I was more than determined to ignore his calls, especially after everything that has been done. But despite my determination, something about the sheer number of missed calls, the insistent buzzing, made me pick up.His voice, a familiar mix of amusement

The air hung heavy with the scent of pine needles and the faint, sweet aroma of cinnamon. Damon, his brow furrowed in concentration, carefully arranged the last of the carefully chosen Christmas ornaments on the grand fir that dominated the living room. He glanced at his grandparents, their faces aglow with the warm light of the crackling fireplace. They were smiling, their eyes crinkled with genuine joy, their hands clasped together in a gesture of contentment. He felt a surge of relief wash over him. He had done it. He had convinced them.Three days ago, when they had arrived at their cozy cabin nestled amidst the snow-dusted pines, Damon had been met with a wave of apprehension. His grandparents, with their old-fashioned ways and unwavering belief in the sanctity of tradition, had been hesitant about their grandson’s unconventional lifestyle. They had raised an eyebrow at his choice of career, his penchant for traveling, and his unconventional living arrangements.Damon, however, h

The air in Soirye’s small apartment hung heavy with the scent of stale coffee and unwashed laundry. It was a stark contrast to the vibrant, chaotic energy that usually filled the space. Six months had passed since Damon had left for the Philippines, and the silence that had settled over the apartment was deafening. Soirye, perched on the edge of her worn-out couch, stared blankly at the flickering television screen. The news droned on in the background, a cacophony of words that seemed to blur together, devoid of meaning. Her gaze drifted to the framed photograph on the coffee table, a snapshot of Damon and her, arms slung around each other, their faces lit with a shared joy. It was a reminder of the laughter, the adventures, the unspoken bond that had connected them.A wave of longing washed over her, a bittersweet ache that tugged at her heart. She missed Damon’s infectious laughter, his quick wit, his unwavering presence. She missed the way he could effortlessly fill a room with h

The silence in the sprawling penthouse apartment was almost tangible, a heavy blanket of unspoken words and unspoken emotions. The city lights, a glittering tapestry of neon and starlight, stretched out before her, a mesmerizing spectacle that held no allure for her tonight. Soirye sat at her expansive desk, her gaze fixed on the financial reports spread out before her. Numbers danced before her eyes, a symphony of growth and success. Her empire, built brick by brick, fueled by ambition and relentless determination, was thriving. Yet, the satisfaction that usually accompanied her victories felt hollow, a bittersweet echo in the vast emptiness that had settled within her.Six months. Six months since Damon had left, six months since the silence had descended upon their lives, suffocating their once vibrant connection. The initial anger had simmered down, replaced by a weary acceptance, a resignation that felt like a heavy weight on her soul. She had tried, initially, to bridge the gap

1 year later… DAMON'S P. O. VThe air hung heavy with the scent of lilies and the damp earth of the cemetery. I placed the basket of flowers, a vibrant splash of color against the grey headstones, in front of the grave. "It's been almost a year. I'm still missing you. I still miss you…” I whispered, my voice hoarse with unshed tears.I stood there, staring at the inscription, my mind a jumbled mess of grief and guilt. I should have been beside her sooner. I should have been beside her every day, holding her hand, telling her how much I loved her. But I was lost in my own world, oblivious to the pain she must have felt in her final days.I turned away, my eyes searching the horizon, as if looking for someone who was no longer there. The sun, a pale disc behind the clouds, cast long shadows across the cemetery, making the world feel even more desolate.Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around me from behind, a familiar warmth radiating through my body."Damon," a voice, soft as a whisp

DAMON'S P. O. VThe morning sun streamed through the window, painting stripes of gold across the bedroom floor. I stretched, a contented sigh escaping my lips. The night before, the night we had rediscovered each other, the night we had rekindled the flame of our love, felt like a dream. But the ache in my muscles, the lingering warmth in my heart, the contented smile on Winter's face as she slept beside me, were all too real.I slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb her. She looked so peaceful, so serene, her face illuminated by the soft morning light. I leaned down and kissed her forehead, the warmth of her skin sending a shiver down my spine."Good morning, My Soirye," I whispered, my voice husky with emotion. "I love you."She stirred, a sleepy smile gracing her lips. "Good morning, Damon," she murmured, her voice soft as a whisper. DAMON'S P. O. VThe humid air of the Philippines clung to us like a second skin, a comforting embrace after the long flight. We were home, back in the place where our love story began, a place that held the echoes of our laughter and the whispers of our dreams. The house we rented was small, a modest bungalow perched on a hill overlooking the ocean. It wasn't fancy, but it was ours, a haven away from the world's chaos. The air was thick with the scent of salt and jasmine, a symphony of smells that filled me with a sense of peace I hadn't felt in years.I chose this small place over my mansion for so many reasons.
