In the Benson Group, Mr. Taiye Jackson sits in the front seat of the conference hall, where they're having a meeting with various board members working under him. These members represent his different companies, all registered under his name.
He spoke softly to his personal assistant, almost in a whisper, "Introduce the new head to them now." The attendees in the meeting hall are waiting to meet the newly appointed CEO, whose name has been announced, but none of the workers have seen him yet. Mr. Taiye Jackson was the former CEO, while his late father, Mr. Benjamin Jackson, was the founder of the Benson Group of companies, which stands for Benjamin and Sons Group of Companies.
They are waiting to witness the new handling of company ownership by Mr. Taiye's only son, Liam Jackson. He's rumored to be cold and unapproachable, and the workers know that once he resumes the position as the new CEO of Benson Group, they might face challenges.
Some workers have heard of him as arrogant, mean, and unappreciative, but nonetheless, they acknowledge his hard work in running some private businesses in the states. Before his father finally announced his retirement plan and asked him to return home to take over the multimillion-dollar companies, Liam had initially refused. He didn't want to return to his country, as he found nothing interesting there, except for his mother, a God-fearing Christian woman who dresses modestly and never misses church to pray for him and his father. As Liam is her only child.
Liam understands that his mother underwent a lot of marital crises at the beginning of her marriage. His grandfather, Mr. Benjamin Jackson, had opposed his son, Mr. Taiye, marrying Mrs. Juliet. Despite women flocking around Taiye and calling Juliet barren, Mr. Taiye truly loved her and insisted on marrying her without engaging in any extramarital affairs.
Mr. Taiye remained loyal to his wife, Mrs. Juliet Jackson, even though his family claimed she couldn't give him another child after 10 years of Liam's birth. Liam's mother had many miscarriages, which Liam attributes to her constant worry about his father leaving her for another woman. At 30 years old, Liam is their only child, while his mother is 60 and his father is 68.
Liam loves his parents nonetheless, but his father tricked him into returning home by lying about being sick and even arranging a fake doctor to call him. Liam was shocked to return home and find his father healthy, attending business meetings.
Liam was angry that his father had tricked him into returning and refused to let him go back to the States.

Inside the headquarters of the Benson Group of Companies, they produce oil, gas, steel, and other basic amenities, making them well-known globally.
Liam is in a private room on the second floor, adjusting his necktie. He wears a long white sleeve shirt and black trousers, with his black suit on the table. His father had spoken to him about introducing him to the board members and business partners.
Liam breathed out heavily, picked up his suit, and wore it. Just then, his office assistant, Brown Anderson, knocked on the door, and Liam responded, "Come in."
"Boss, it is time for the introduction to begin," Brown informed him. Liam nodded and wore his black suit properly.
As Liam steps out of the hall, his father's spokesperson announces to the prominent men and women sitting in the large meeting hall, "Welcome, Master Liam Jackson, New CEO of Benson Groups of Companies Limited."
The hall erupts in applause as Liam steps onto the podium. His father sits at the front seat while his father's assistant, Mr. Silas Greystone, hands him the microphone to give a speech to the staff.
"Thank you all for accepting our invitation and witnessing my induction as the new CEO of Benson Group. I would like us to continue with our integrity and work hard to build our company into a beacon of transparency and quality. Thank you all once again for being part of my new journey. Thank you," Liam says, handing the microphone back to Mr. Silas Greystone.
Liam steps down from the podium, and the applause intensifies as he walks to his seat. Some of the top staff stand up immediately to shake hands with him as he approaches his seat.
After the handshakes, Liam sits, and his father, Mr. Taiye Jackson, smiles faintly as he stands up to give his speech before the final closing remarks from Silas.
"Thank you all for honoring my invitation and witnessing this new beginning with our new CEO, my son, Liam Jackson. I appreciate all our past workers who have worked hard to uplift our company's name and create a sense of transparency. We are one of the best production companies in Nigeria. I ask you all, both old and new workers, and retirees, to respect and cooperate with our new CEO and follow his decisions for our company's global growth. Thank you all once again. Silas, please close the meeting," Mr. Taiye says, handing the microphone back to Silas, who reads out new briefings about the products and prices.
After the closing remarks, the invitees and top workers stand up and exit the meeting hall.
Liam remains in the hall with his father as the number of guests and staff dwindles, leaving just a few discussing. He stands up and walks over to his father, who is conversing with his friend, Mr. John Patrick.
"Father, I want to have a word with you," Liam says, waiting for his father to finish his conversation with Mr. John Patrick, one of their top managing accountants.
"Okay, son, I will be with you shortly," Mr. Taiye responds, while Mr. John Patrick turns to Liam.
"Oh, Master Liam, congratulations on your new position as our CEO," Mr. John smiles faintly at Liam.
"Thank you, sir; it's an honor to meet you and work with you all," Liam replies.
"You can always count on us, Liam. Your father is my boss and a very good friend. I am so happy to see you take over as the new CEO. I know you will lead us to greater heights than your father and grandfather ever did," Mr. John says.
"Thank you, sir," Liam smiles faintly, appreciating the praise.
"You're welcome, Liam. Mr. Taiye, I need to leave now. My daughter will be very upset with me for missing her convocation today. She called me to come with her mother to the venue," Mr. John Patrick says to Mr. Taiye.
"You know I couldn't miss your son being introduced as the new CEO, so I asked her mother and brother to attend her convocation on my behalf. She will be very annoyed with me," Mr. John tells Mr. Taiye, who responds, "Oh, I am so sorry about that, Mr. John. I hope she understands."
"Yes, boss, she will," Mr. John offers a faint smile.
"How about I make it up to her by introducing her to my son? Maybe we can extend our family friendship to marriage. I'm sure she will be happy about that," Mr. Taiye suggests.
Liam frowns as he stands beside his father, waiting for him to finish his conversation with Mr. John Patrick. Mr. John quickly rejects the idea, "Oh, thank you, Boss, but that's only if she will accept."
Mr. John knows how stubborn his daughter is and doesn't want her to cause any problems between him and his boss. But Mr. Taiye insists, "Why won't she accept? Liam is handsome, and every lady wants him. What did she study at the university?" Mr. Taiye asks, but Liam's frown deepens as he looks from his father to Mr. John.
Women aren't of his interest, and Liam doesn't like how his father is trying to set him up with a woman he hasn't even met and doubts he would like, just because their fathers were friends.
"My daughter studied business administration at the University of Nigeria," Mr. John said."That's fine, then. Have her submit her CV to us once she's home. I am sure we still have more vacancies for new hires like her. I will be expecting her response," Mr. Taiye replied."Father!" Liam quickly cut his father's speech off, his frown deepening. "You cannot just court me with her yet," Liam said. His father smiled at him and replied, "I know, son. I am only trying to compensate Mr. John Patrick for his goodwill and commitment to working with us for over twenty years."Mr. John faintly smiled at Liam and bowed slightly before taking his leave. "I will be taking my leave now, boss. Thank you, and congratulations once again, Liam," Mr. John said as he excused himself. Liam nodded at Mr. John's last words, then walked with his father to the front of the meeting hall near the exit door."I don't like what you just did, father. There are many other ways to compensate Mr. John Patrick, and not
Anita goes back home with her father and mother, who arrived at her school to witness her final graduation ceremony. Her mother is very happy, but her father keeps his usual non-smiling face as he drives them home. He's proud that Anita didn't allow her beauty to deter her from becoming successful in life, but nonetheless, he's still confused as to why she's the prettiest of all his daughters.Even though his wife didn't give him a son, he isn't bothered by that, as their custom permits a woman to inherit all her father's property even if she's married to another man. However, he still wonders if he's Anita's true biological father.Sighing, he drives towards their home since the university is closer to their house in the city.Arriving home, he drives into their simple compound and parks. Their home is a simple bungalow with four bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen.Mr. Joshua Baker is the owner of the house, having acquired it from the original landowners. He steps out of the car
Mrs. Tonia smiles faintly at Anita as Anita makes way for Glory to pass with the tray of soup in her hands. Anita walks into the kitchen without uttering any words to her mother, but her face holds a great sorrow that her mom understands better."Anita," Mrs. Tonia slowly calls her name."What is it, mom?" Anita asks as she walks beside her mother."I want you to know that your father really loves you, like the rest of your siblings, and isn't against your success," Mrs. Tonia replies, holding Anita's hand in hers."Hmph," Anita sighs. "I know, mom, but I don't care about that. If Dad likes me, fine; if he doesn't, fine. I will always see him as my father, and that's all.""Anita," Mrs. Tonia begins."Mom, where's the fufu?!" Flora steps into the kitchen and interrupts them. She looks at Anita and walks to the kitchen cabinet to meet their mother."Mom, why are you holding her hands and talking to her? Are you begging her for something?" Flora asks again, crossing her arms over her che
Mrs. Tonia didn't say anything after Flora exited the room. She sighed and walked up to sit beside Anita on the bed, while Favour and Esther also exited the room."You shouldn't be so harsh with your sister. Fighting with her wasn't necessary," Mrs. Tonia said to Anita as she sat beside her on the bed."I know, mom, but they keep disrespecting me too much, and it's getting out of hand," Anita replied."It's okay. I understand, but don't change yourself because of them. Keep being my sweet and calm daughter," Mrs. Tonia advised Anita."Okay, mom," Anita sighed as she stared at her mother, while Glory walked up to sit on the bed too."I've got to go now and meet your father. Glory, go now, pack your bags, and come join Anita here," Mrs. Tonia said."Okay, mom," Glory replied. She stood up from the bed and walked out of the room to the one she shared with Lisa. Flora was already there, arranging her clothes into the wardrobe, but she didn't say a word to Glory, who stepped in and carried
Anita couldn't say anything after their mother left them to be with their father. She sighed and stared back at Flora, who seemed worried, as they walked back to sit on the couch."What do you think is the problem?" Esther asked Flora, but Flora shook her head and replied, "I don't know, but I am worried it's something serious."They sat back on the couch, waiting for their father or mother to step out and talk to them. Anita sighed and finally walked back to her room, not knowing what the problem was. She believed her mother would let them know, even if her father didn't want to, as she saw her father was already dressed to leave for work before receiving whatever news made him devastated. She prayed silently in her heart, "Let it not be that my father has lost his job."Anita shook her head and walked back into her room, feeling that her father's scream had something to do with his office work. She sat on her bed and picked up her phone to type her letter of application to the Benson
Liam walked into his office and took his seat in his executive chair, swirling it sideways and staring around his office. He smiled and rolled up his sleeves to start his new day at the office, leaning forward to his desk and switching on his computer to check the company's records. He waited for the computer to finish booting.Liam tick-tocked the time as he waited for the computer to boot up. Just then, his secretary knocked, and he responded, "Come in."Margret walked into his office, holding a file, and smiled faintly at him, staring downward a little before stopping in front of his desk."Yes... What's your name again?" Liam asked her as he looked up at her pretty face."Margret Jonathan," she said, still smiling at him."Okay, Miss Margret, what do you want, or what can I help you with?" Liam asked her."Sir, Mr. John Patrick brought this file this morning and said I should hand it over to you," Margret replied, staring at him."Okay, drop it here." Liam pointed to the space on h
"Hello, boss," Margret quickly picked up the office line and received the call."Come into my office right away," Liam responded. Margret gulped, quickly stood up from her seat, and dropped the phone. She saw Bambam smiling at her as she prepared to attend to a client sitting in front of her. Some clients stepped into Margret's office to see her, but she immediately directed them to other staff on the third floor, knowing the new boss didn't like to be kept waiting. Margret walked towards Liam's office door, knocked gently, and heard his cold response, "Come in."Margret gulped as she opened his office door and walked in."What took you so long to respond to my call?" Liam asked, continuing to type on his computer without looking away from the monitor."I'm sorry, boss, I arrived late from lunch," Margret replied. Liam paused his typing and looked up at her."Do you want to be fired?" he asked."No, boss," Margret responded nervously, fumbling with her fingers as her palms became sweat
Temisa is in her father's mansion, a standard duplex in a government-owned estate that her father bought as a new house."Father, have you submitted my CV and letter of application to the new boss?" Temisa asked as her father stepped into the living room. She sat on the long couch, filing and brushing her long nails.Mr. John stared at his daughter. Instead of standing up and welcoming him, she sat comfortably on the couch, filing her nails and asking him questions as if he were her errand boy."Temisa, you're quite unbelievable; not even a welcome greeting for your father?" Mr. John asked as he dropped his briefcase on the center table and loosened his necktie."I am sorry, father. Good evening, father. Welcome home," Temisa said, dropping her leg from the couch where it had been resting."Where's your mother?" Mr. John asked."She went to the market to refill the house with food.""And your elder brother?""Father, I'm not their keeper, and I don't know where Martin went either," Tem
