Mr. John smiled and replied, "My daughter studied business administration at the University of Nigeria."
"That's fine. You should submit her CV to us once she's home. I’m sure we have more vacancies for new bees like her. I will be expecting to see her," Mr. Taiye replied.
"Father!" Liam quickly cut off his father's speech as his frown deepened.
"You cannot just recruit me with her yet," Liam said, and his father smiled at him, replying, "I know, son. I’m only trying to compensate Mr. John Patrick for his goodwill and commitment to working with us for over twenty years."
Mr. John smiled as he bowed slightly to leave. "I will be taking my leave now, boss. Thank you, and congratulations once again, Liam," he said as he excused himself from them.
Liam sighed as he heard Mr. John's last words. He walked with his father to the front of the meeting hall while they stood near the exit door, and he spoke, "Father, I don't like what you just did. There are many other ways to compensate Mr. John Patrick that don't involve me."
"What do you mean by that, Liam? Mr. John has been a committed worker here. I know you won't understand because you're new here, but it's okay. Besides, he said if his daughter agreed. She might not even consider working with us, so there's no need for you to panic about what was just said," Mr. Taiye replied, turning to leave the meeting hall.
Liam remarked, "I hope she doesn't, Father. Women aren't of my interest for now."
"Liam," Mr. Taiye paused and stared back at his son. He shook his head, saying, "You shouldn’t say that to your mother. Someday you'll find a good wife, but that's beside the point. Let's focus on business and forget about what we just discussed."
"Okay, Father," Liam agreed, watching his father exit the meeting hall, leaving only him in the room. His assistant, Brown, walked back into the meeting hall to meet him immediately after his father left.
"What should I do now, boss?" Brown asked, standing in front of Liam.
"Prepare the car. I will be going home for today. All official duties start tomorrow," Liam said.
"Okay, boss," Brown replied, exiting the meeting hall on the second floor. He went downstairs to inform Liam's personal driver, Israel, to prepare the car.
"Israel, get the car ready. The boss is about to leave now," Brown said.
"Okay," Israel replied, waiting for Liam to step out. He stood watching the Benson Group, a five-story building filled with staff.

Liam stepped out of the elevator and walked toward his car in the driveway. Some workers stood outside discussing that it was a free day and no work was available to be carried out since Liam's father had given them the break the previous day to witness him being introduced as the new CEO.
Liam hopped into his car, settling in the back seat while Israel started the car's engine and drove home to the Benson villa.
Upon arriving at the edifice, Israel parked while Liam stepped out of the car and walked into the mansion. He entered the living room of the one-story duplex.
His mother wasn’t in the living room; she was in the kitchen cooking. Even though they had maids, Mrs. Juliet Jackson preferred cooking as she loved preparing their local African dishes.
A maid stepped out to welcome Liam as she heard the sound of the car arrive. She greeted him, "Welcome back, Master Liam."
"Thank you," Liam replied, looking away from her as he made his way into the kitchen to find his mother. The aroma of the food she was preparing filled the entire living room with its delicious scent.
Mrs. Juliet was making the delicious Egusi soup garnished with beef and dried fish.
"Good afternoon, Mom," Liam greeted his mother as he entered the kitchen. The two maids assisting his mother immediately greeted him, "Welcome back, Master Liam."
"Thank you," Liam replied. His mom washed her hands in the kitchen sink and dried them with her short kitchen towel. She walked up to give him a warm hug.
"Welcome home, son. How was your day at the office?" Mrs. Juliet asked.
"Fine, Mother. Hasn't my father arrived home?" Liam asked. His mother replied, "No, son. He's probably with his friends. You know he's happy that you finally returned home to resume your position as the new CEO."
"I know that, Mom," Liam smiled faintly at his mother as he stepped out from the kitchen while his mother instructed the cook on what to do since her meal was almost done.
"Just keep an eye on it so it won't get burned. Once it's ready, serve it right out," Mrs. Juliet instructed a maid.
"Okay, Ma'am," Nora responded. She was the cook and head of all the maids and servants in their home.
Finally, Mrs. Juliet walked out of the kitchen to meet her son as he sat on the long couch in the living room, stretching his long legs. She wore a brown gown and removed her apron, handing it over to a maid who stood next to her.
"Here, take this to the laundry room and wash it," she said.
"Okay, Ma'am," the maid replied.
Mrs. Juliet walked up to sit across from Liam.
"Mom, why are you stressing so much about cooking when you have maids and cooks at your service?" Liam asked his mother, watching her sit across from him.
"I know that, my son, but cooking is part of my exercise, and I enjoy it too. I cannot leave all the work to the maids and cooks alone. I might end up becoming lazy and sick, especially since I have recently retired from the nursing home before you returned," she said.
"Hmm," Liam hummed. "It's okay, Mother. As long as you're not stressed about it, I'm fine with that."
"Not at all, Liam. Tell me, how did the event go?" she asked.
"Fine, Mother. It was just a simple meeting with the new staff, but I didn't like how some of the female staff dressed," Liam stated, his face twisting in irritation.
"What do you mean by that, son? Weren't the women wearing clothes, or how did you expect them to dress?" Mrs. Juliet asked, confused by her son's claims.
"Decently, Mother! That's how female staff are supposed to dress for the office. Decent, not trying to seduce anyone at work," he replied, and his mother gasped.
"Oh, Liam!" Mrs. Juliet had a faint smile on her face.
"They're young female staff and probably searching for husbands. You don't expect them to dress like married women, covering up everywhere at work. Besides, they might want you to admire one of them," she added.
"No, Mother! That's not something I will allow. Tomorrow, I will issue a new dress code order to Brown, and any of the new female staff and old staff who cannot follow it will be expected to quit," Liam stated, his face twisting in irritation.
"Liam! You cannot do that. You just resumed the CEO position, and you shouldn't be harsh on your workers and colleagues just because you're their boss," Mrs. Juliet frowned.
"I'm sorry, Mom, but that’s how I want them to start dressing from tomorrow onwards. I will have them inspected at the gate before they're allowed into the company, and I've already prepared the dress code. Brown will provide them with the information tomorrow," Liam stood up from the couch while Mrs. Juliet was dumbfounded.
"Liam," she finally called him, and he stopped.
"I'm sorry, Mom, but if my father interferes in this, then I will have to resign from the company. One must keep his or her focus, and I don't want to be distracted or tempted by any of my female staff," he added.
"Alright. If that's how you want it, I just hope it won't affect the company's growth," Mrs. Juliet replied.
"Not at all, Mother," Liam smiled at his mother, pleased that she had agreed.
"I will have to go upstairs now and freshen up. The aroma of the soup is inviting; let me freshen up first and come back downstairs to join you for dinner," Liam said.
"Okay, son. I will be expecting you," Mrs. Juliet replied, watching her son climb the stairs in the living room to the second floor.
Their house was a standard duplex. Even though her husband had the funds to purchase a multimillion-dollar mansion, Mrs. Juliet still preferred living in the Benson Villa, as it kept many of her past memories alive.
She sighed as she stood up to prepare the dining table with the maids. Just then, her husband arrived home with one of his friends, Mr. Tunji Martin, and she walked back to welcome them.
They walked into the living room and met her.
"Welcome, honey," she said as she hugged her husband. Even though he was 68 years old, she didn't fail to call him honey.
"Wow, the aroma of the soup is inviting," Mr. Taiye praised his wife as he kissed her cheek affectionately.
"Where's Liam? Isn't he back yet?" he asked.
"He's back; he went upstairs to freshen up," Mrs. Juliet replied.
"Okay, meet my friend Tunji Martin; we have a little business discussion, but that will wait until after dinner, as Tunji will be joining us for dinner," Mr. Taiye informed her.
"Okay, honey. Welcome, sir," Mrs. Juliet smiled at Mr. Tunji, and he greeted her, "Well done, ma."
"Thank you," she replied.
Anita goes back home with her father and mother, who arrived at her school to witness her final graduation ceremony. Her mother is very happy, but her father keeps his usual non-smiling face as he drives them home.He is proud of Anita for not letting her beauty go to her head and deter her from becoming successful in life. Nonetheless, he's still confused as to why she is the prettiest of all his daughters.Even though his wife didn't give him a son, Mr. Joshua isn't bothered about that, as their customs permit a woman to inherit all her father's property, even if she is already married to another man. Still, he wonders if he is Anita's true biological father. He sighs as he drives toward their home, which is closer to the university in the city.Arriving home, he drives into their simple compound and parks. Their home is just a modest bungalow, consisting of four bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and five toilets with bathrooms.Mr. Joshua Baker is the owner of the house; he acquir
Mrs. Tonia smiled faintly at Anita as Glory made her way past with a tray of soup in her hands. Glory walked out of the kitchen, while Anita stepped in without uttering a word to her mother, but her face expressed a profound sorrow that her mom understood well."Anita," Mrs. Tonia slowly called her name."What is it, Mom?" Anita asked as she walked beside her mother."I want you to know that your father really loves you, just as he does the rest of your siblings, and he isn't against your success," Mrs. Tonia replied, holding Anita's hand in hers."Hmph," Anita sighed."I know, Mom, but I don't care about that. If Dad likes me, fine; if he doesn’t, fine. I will always see him as my father, and that's all," Anita said."Anita," Mrs. Tonia began."Mom, where's the fufu?!" Flora stepped into the kitchen, interrupting them as she looked at Anita and made her way to the kitchen cabinet to meet their mother."Mom, why are you holding her hand and talking to her? Are you begging her for somet
Mrs. Tonia didn't say anything after Flora exited the room. She sighed and walked up to sit beside Anita on the bed while Favour and Esther also exited the room. "You shouldn't be harsh with your sister. Fighting with Flora wasn't necessary," Mrs. Tonia said to Anita as she sat beside her on the bed."I know, Mom, but they keep disrespecting me too much, and it's getting out of hand," Anita replied."It’s okay. I can understand, but don’t change yourself because of them. Keep being my sweet and calm daughter," Mrs. Tonia advised."Okay, Mom." Anita sighed as she stared at her mother while Glory walked up to sit on the bed too."I've got to go now and join your father. Glory, go now, pack your bags, and come join Anita here," Mrs. Tonia said."Okay, Mom," Glory replied. She stood up from the bed and walked out of the room to the one she shares with Lisa. Flora was already in the room, arranging her clothes in the wardrobe, but she didn't say a word to Glory, who stepped in and carried
Anita couldn't say anything after their mother left them to return to the room with their father. She sighed and looked back at Flora, who seemed worried, as they walked back to sit on the couch."What do you think is the problem?" Esther asked Flora, but Flora shook her head and replied, "I don't know, but I am worried about something serious."They sat back on the couch, waiting for either their father or mother to step out and talk to them. Anita sighed and finally walked back to her room, unsure of what the problem was, but she believed her mother would let them know, even though her father likely wouldn’t. She noticed that her father was already dressed to leave for work before receiving whatever news had devastated him. She prayed silently in her heart, "Let it not be that my father has lost his job."Anita shook her head and walked back into her room, feeling that her father's scream echoing in her mind had something to do with his office work. She sat on her bed and picked up
Liam walks into his office and takes his seat in his executive chair. He swivels the seat sideways, staring at his office.Smiling, he rolls up his sleeves to start his new day in the office. He leans forward on his desk and switches on his computer to check the company's records, waiting for the computer to boot.Liam counts the time as he waits for the computer to finish booting. Just then, his secretary knocks, and he responds, "Come in."Margret walks into his office holding a file, and she smiles faintly at him, staring downward a little."Yes... what's your name again?" Liam asks her as he stares at her pretty face."Margret Jonathan," she says with a smile."Okay, Miss Margret, what do you want, or how can I help you?" Liam asks, and she steps forward."Sir, Mr. John Patrick brought this file this morning, and he said I should hand it over to you," she replies, looking at him."Okay, come drop it here." Liam points to the side of his desk that has empty space with only a few fil
"Hello, Boss," Margret immediately picks up the office line and receives the call."Come into my office right away," Liam responds. Margret gulps and quickly stands up from her office seat, dropping the phone line. She sees Bambam smiling at her as Bambam prepares to attend to the client sitting in front of her. Some clients step into Margret's secretary office to see her too, but she immediately directs them to other staff working on the third floor office to attend to them. As she knows the new boss doesn't like to be kept waiting.Margret immediately walks towards Liam's office door and knocks. She hears his cold voice response, "Come in."Margret swallows as she opens the office door and walks into Liam's exquisite office to see him."What took you so long to respond to my call?" Liam questions, as he continues typing on his computer, not shifting his gaze away from the monitor screen, as his fingers click faster on the keyboard."I'm sorry, Boss. I arrived late from lunch," Margr
Temisa is in her father's mansion; their home is a standard duplex in a government-owned estate, which her father bought as a new house."Father, have you submitted my CV and letter of application to the new boss?" Temisa asks, as her father steps into the living room. She sits on the couch, filing and brushing her long nails.Mr. John just stares at his daughter. Instead of standing up to welcome him, she comfortably sits on the couch, filing her long nails and asking him questions as if he's her errand boy."Temisa, you're quite unbelievable. Not even a welcome greeting from you to your father?" Mr. John asks, as he drops his briefcase on the living room center table and slowly loosens his necktie."I'm sorry, father. Good evening, father. Welcome." Temisa drops her legs down from the couch where she had previously rested them and continues filing her long nails."Where's your mother?" Mr. John asks, and Temisa responds, "Mom went to the market to refill the house with foodstuffs.""
"Mom, I cannot work with them if that's what their new boss now wants from them," Temisa refuted as she stood up from the couch. She had been sitting with her mother when Felicia left with the car key to offload the car's boot."I can understand you, Temisa, but know that your father went through the stress to get your application submitted to their boss. It will be very insulting to your father if, after their new boss approves you, you fail to resume with them. Remember, your results aren't even the best, and yet they want you to work with them," Mrs. Bianca said."But mother..." Temisa was lost for words as she stared at her mother, a beautiful, full-figured black woman."Just think about it, Temisa, and be easy on yourself. You're lucky your father is doing all this to get you to the top among your peers. He told me personally that the CEO's father wants you to be engaged with his son, and the only way you can be engaged with his son is by getting closer to him and building a bond
Liam doesn't say anything as he stands watching the two friends reunite and forgive each other. They finally stand up, and Temisa walks over to see the twin babies in their little baby bed in the living room."Wow, they look so much like Liam, but my baby resembles me more than Alfred," Temisa says, while Anita only smiles at her."It's all good, girlfriend. I wish you both a happy married life, and I will be your bridesmaid on your wedding day," Temisa proposes, and Anita shakes her head."Flora already filled that position. You will only join the train.""Okay, dear. I have to be on my way now. You know I just darted out from the house as soon as Alfred told me about your babies and that you're here with Liam. Take good care of yourself, girlfriend, as you look slim," Temisa says, while Anita nods to her."I will. Let me escort you," Anita feels all the previous heaviness in her heart disappear, and she walks out of the mansion with Temisa. They walk to the garage where Temisa's car
Mrs. Tonia quickly greets Mrs. Juliet, "Good evening, ma'am.""Yes, welcome. Let's go in first," Mrs. Juliet ushers them into her living room. Just then, Mr. Taiye walks in too and sees the visitors, noticing Liam carefully carrying a baby in his arms. He recognizes the familiar lady as his son's secretary and immediately knows the babies are the result of the encounter they had in Liam's office."Good evening, Father," Liam happily greets his father. Mr. Taiye nods to all their greetings, while Anita nervously stares downward, feeling uncomfortable, remembering Mr. Taiye had warned her to stay clear of his son and never show her face in his company again."Mother, here are your grandkids," Liam walks over to meet his mother, who is sitting on the living room couch. He carefully places the baby boy in her arms, and Mrs. Juliet is still in shock as Liam never told her his secretary was pregnant or that he was bringing his babies home.Mr. Taiye is the most confused as he remembers he w
"Are you married?" Liam finally asks, sounding hurt. Anita shakes her head and replies, "No.""Then how come the babies?" Liam asks as he finally saunters over to meet her. He has missed her so much, and he doesn't look himself because of her."Anita," Liam finally approaches her, and she turns to face him, and he sees she's crying."I'm sorry," Anita cries, and Liam crosses the thin line between them and hugs her warmly."It's okay. I've missed you. I do love you," Liam comforts her in a hug, hoping whoever got her pregnant or married her doesn't step in and catch him hugging his wife.Anita wants to pull away from Liam as she inhales his cologne, realizing she's crying into his chest, but Liam hugs her tighter and raises her chin to face him."Don't you miss me?" he asks, and Anita sniffs."I do," she replies."And you don't want to kiss me or welcome me?"Anita finally raises her head properly and looks up at Liam's face.He looks sick too, so unlike him, and his beard is overgrown
Anita doesn't say anything as she watches her mother dress up in a green gown while she breastfeeds her little daughter, who sucks a lot, wanting to drain the remaining energy she has left."I have to go out now and buy everything we will need to eat tonight. There's no food in the kitchen, and I don't want to disturb Mama and her in-law.""Okay, Mom."Anita watches her mother walk out of the room. She carefully places her little girl down and walks to her phone to see all the text messages Liam sent to her. Her heartbeat increases as she unlocks her phone screen. She sees a lot of texts from him and love emojis and she smiles, staggering backward to sit on her bed to read his texts."What happened to you? Your mom said you got discharged from the hospital. Are you alright now? Not to worry, I will be coming down to your village to see you. But why did you shut us all out? I have really missed you. Honestly, I cannot stop thinking about the love we made, and I'm glad your mom finally
Mrs. Tonia pulls away from the mother-to-daughter hug and stares at Anita's face."It's okay, stop crying. Why did you run away, and who did you sleep with?" Mrs. Tonia questions as she walks to look at her grandkids. She stares at the two cute babies who are also awake and staring at her. She gasps in surprise as she isn't mistaken—the babies look so much like Liam, the CEO of Benson Group. She stares back at Anita, who’s also looking at her, and then back at the twin babies in their baby bed."Anita, who got you pregnant?" Mrs. Tonia asks again while Alice finally walks over to hold her hand."We can discuss this at home. Let it rest while we leave the hospital first."Mrs. Tonia sighs and looks from Alice to Anita and back to her grandbabies. They're so cute and fair, and now she knows why the CEO has kept on asking her about Anita. So he's the one that got her daughter pregnant and slept with Anita the very day he delayed her at work and made her return home late.Mrs. Tonia tries
Anita wakes up that evening with a light headache. She sits up in her bed and eats the dinner Alice brought for her from home."How are you feeling now? You need to breastfeed your babies and not starve them," Alice says. Anita finally looks at them as her eyes clear, and seeing one of them crying, Alice speaks to her."She's a girl, while the calm one here is a boy." Alice hands over the baby girl to Anita, who stares at her beautiful daughter's face. Her baby girl looks so much like Liam; even though she's very fair like her, her baby's short curly hair and round cute face resemble Liam so much. Anita's heart skips a beat as she keeps staring at her baby instead of breastfeeding her."Why are you still staring at her? Give her your breast milk" Alice finally yells at Anita, snapping her out of her daze. Anita opens up her shirt and breastfeeds her baby. The little girl in her arms stops crying after a while as she sucks on her breast. As if the second baby is aware, he resumes cryin
"I know," Liam replies and smiles back."But I still miss Anita and want to see her account," he says."Tell me the truth, boss. Do you just miss Anita, or are you in love with her and have a crush on her?" Temisa asks, and she sees Liam smile, which already answers her question."Just send me Anita's profile name. Let me search for her first.""Okay, I will," Temisa replies as she sits up properly."What about Alfred?" Liam finally asks her as he sees her sit up."He's not yet home. You know he runs the hotels and club too, cheating on me," Temisa pouts."He's not. He complains about you starving him," Liam tells her, and Temisa gasps."He said that? I know Alfred is so shameless," Temisa replies, and just then Alfred returns and walks into their room, as they both use one room together. Even though the room was his before she moved into his family house. His mother had insisted they must share a room together as a couple, and he clearly heard her call him a shameless man."Who are y
The line goes still for a while."Which sister are you talking about?" Barrister Jude asks."Oh, I just remembered I have her number, as her husband's case is with me. Mrs. Tonia, of course. Don't you know your sister again?" Mr. Collins questions."Oh, you mean her daughter is in the village? Which one?""I don't know her name yet, but she's white and very fair. She just gave birth to twins, making your sister a grandmother now.""Oh! You mean Anita?" Barrister Jude asks."Is that her name? Well, I don't know. I'm just seeing her for the first time now. Let me contact your sister then. I forgot I recently got her number due to her husband's case."Mr. Collins quickly ends the call, not giving Barrister Jude any more chances to question him. He cannot believe the silly man didn't want to help his in-law because of some past silly stories. He had to pity Mrs. Tonia and helped her case as he used to admire her when she hadn't married Mr. Joshua."Hello," Mr. Collins stands outside the h
Liam stares downward, not wanting to meet Mrs. Tonia's angry gaze, as he suspects she knows about the night he made love to Anita, but probably doesn't know who exactly slept with her.Was that why Anita left? What's really going on? he wonders."Actually, ma'am, I heard from her friend that she's going through a lot, and I don't know if I can help, but perhaps that will make her return.""Help with what? Just leave!" Mrs. Tonia shuts her door on Liam, not giving him a chance to speak.Did Anita's boss force himself on her? Mrs. Tonia wonders as she walks back to her parlor.Staring at the man, she sees him as a calm person with good moral upbringing, but is he the one that slept with her daughter and also bit and sucked on Anita's neck?If only Anita had told her the truth before she left, she wouldn't be rude to him, but she cannot help it. She behaves rudely because she misses her daughter so much.Liam leaves the building and walks back to his car.He knows her mother suspects him
