Chapter 3: The rejection.

last update Last Updated: 2024-11-26 04:17:42

He looked at me with hooded eyes. My mate, I had found my mate and he was going to save us. With his presence, the guards released me. Zahra, stood up watching the exchange between us.

“You… you are my mate.” He whispered. He seemed mesmerised by me being there. He stretched out his hand and stroked my cheek. I leaned in to his touch. The whole clearing was silent and nobody made a sound.

I felt I had gotten something good when all of a sudden, he retracted his had like he had been burnt by my skin.

“You, you cannot be my mate” his face twisted in disgust.

What?

“You are a slave, I cannot be matted to a slave and a conquered pack. I am an Alpha, I deserve better than a weakling” he sneered.

“Al-pha?” I said in confusion. He is the alpha of this pack? The pack that raided and destroyed my home? The pack that killed and is killing the last of my people? This pack?

I stumbled back unable to form words.

“This is unacceptable. I, Dylan, Alpha of the Blood stone pack, reject you, Mima as my mate given to me by the goddess”

The world felt like it had slowed around me, I could feel my wolf inside me moving into a corner in sadness, I could feel the bond breaking like fragile glass, I could feel my heart aching. I felt like my heart was being torn apart. I crumpled to the ground and let out an ear splitting scream.

“Take them back to the dungeon, this event is over” I heard him say as he walked away.

I was still screaming and shouting as I was dragged away by the guards. I could hear Zahra behind me telling me comforting words, trying to help me but it was all useless. I went quiet as I felt numb.

My cell was open and I was tossed in it, while Zahra was put in the one opposite me. I laid on the cold hard floor, staring at the high window. I felt nothing.

I felt numb.

I couldn't feel my wolf.

I curled up into a ball and ignored every attempt Zahra made to talk to me.

5 days had gone by. I could tell from the number of times the moon and sun had come up. The cells became emptier, day by day. Soon it was as silent as a church mouse.

I had gone days without food. The guards didn't serve us food or water. It was like they wanted us to die from starvation but I wouldn't give in, I don't want to die a miserable death. I will get out of here.

For the first time in days, my cell door was opened and a guard walked in.

“Get up”

I didn't even bother to not try this time around. I stood up and looked him in the eyes.

“Keep your head down, you bitch. We are not the same” he hit me as he says this.

I don't reply but keep my head down as he chains me, the silver burning my skin.

He drags me out of the cell and I catch sight of Zahra seated in her cell opposite mine. She was so still that it looked like she had died. She looked up at me and nodded to which I nodded back. As we progressed, I noticed that the other cells were empty… we were the only two left.

I choked down a sob and followed the guard.

The guard led me to a big white building. The building was immaculate and exquisite from the outside. People stared at me as we walked by, the kids, their parents, even shop owners. Must be something to see a prisoner being dragged out to this kind of building, huh.

Inside the building is even more beautiful than the exterior. What a beautiful place for an ugly pack. I was led up stairs and finally we arrived in front of a big large white door. The guard knocked on the door three times, announcing our presence.

A dull come in sounded from the other side of the door and we walked in.

I was staring at the decorations in the room when my eyes landed on my mate, well, my ex-mate. He sat on the other side of the desk in all his authoritative glory. Beside him stood a tall blonde. She was slim with curves in the right places and her skin glowed in the sunlight. She glowered at me which made me wonder what I ever did to her.

“Alpha, I have brought the prisoner like you requested, sir. I shall now take my leave”

The guard informed the Alpha before unlocking my chains and taking them with him.

I stood there in silence as they both scrutinized me with their eyes raking all over my body.

“She will do just fine” I heard the Alpha say.

For what?

What did he mean by that?

“I have told you darling, I don't need another maid. Why can't you just kill her like the rest?” She said to the Alpha with her eyes on me staring at me with visible hatred. I still stand there in silence watching them go back and forth decoding my fate.

“No! My word is final and she will be your maid.”

Dylan said. His loud booming voice sounded across the whole room.

The lady stared wide eyed in shock before she regained her composure and nodded.

“Mima, this is my Luna. You will work for her and do as she says. From today, she is your master and you will serve her.”

Oh, his Luna. He already has one. The sound of it stabbed my already opened wound.

“Yes, Dylan” I whisper in a small voice.

" That is Alpha Dylan to you, you lowlife” the Luna said with venom in her words.

Dylan called for a maid to show me to my new room and clean me up. I was led out of the room and down the hallway into a small, shabby room.

The maid didn't even acknowledge my presence as she hissed at me and walked out. I was alone in the room. I looked to the bedside and saw some food and on the bed, a maid's uniform. I took it from the bed and walked towards the bathroom.

Once in, I slipped out of my dirty and blood-caked clothes and stepped into the shower.

As the water cascaded down my skin, tears began to fall from my eyes. I couldn't hold it anymore as I slid down the wall and burst into sobs. My family, my pack, everyone… they were all gone.

I kept crying about all that I had lost in a short span of time.

Zahra

I needed to get her out… soon.

At least one of us must survive this hell hole.

I walked out of the bathroom and into the room, draping the towel I found over my body. The food on the bedside table had gone cold but I had no choice but to shove it down my throat. If I was going to survive here, I needed all the energy I could get. I couldn't stop thinking about my family and their deaths again. I knelt by my bed as I decided to pray to the moon goddess for their souls and that they rest in peace. I was just about to start my prayers when my room door burst open and an angry Luna stormed in. “Well, well, well. Look at a little miss seductive ex-mate praying to the goddess.” She scorned.I didn't understand what I must have done to get her angry. Before I could open my mouth to talk, she grabbed me by the ponytail I had thrown my hair into and pulled me backwards. My scalp stung from the pull.“You bitch, you think you can take my mate away from me. I, Stephanie, future Luna of this pack would never allow that” Stephanie, so that's her name and what is she goin

I promised myself not to cry in front of all these people. I held it in and turned to him.“Respectfully Alpha, you were the one that touched me inappropriately, leading to me being startled. I didn't intentionally want to soil your expensive clothes.”He stared at me, shocked that I exposed him. “I— I did no such thing. What do you mean by touching you inappropriately? You… you are making up baseless accusations with zero to no evidence that I did that” I stumbled over his words trying to clear his name. He looked over at the other guests, trying to garner their favour but knowing who he really was, none of them stood up to defend him. But Stephanie spoke up.“I believe you, Alpha Rodrick. I mean, why would a reputable man like you want to touch filthy trash like her? She must be lying, giving an excuse for how she acted. She is such a silly fool.” She walked towards us and I couldn't help but cower in fear as she got closer.“I will make sure to teach her a lesson after our meal”

The metallic tang of blood filled my nostrils as I woke to the faintest light filtering through the cracks in the walls. My body screamed in protest as I tried to move, every muscle burning like fire. The dried blood and sweat glued my torn clothes to my skin, making every small shift unbearable.A soft scuffling sound caught my attention. At first, I thought it was rats, but then I noticed a shadow moving along the wall close to the door. I hadn't heard anybody come in. Someone was here. My heart thudded in my chest, fear and desperation flooded my chest. Where they are here to beat me up again. "Who's there?" My voice came out hoarse and small, barely above a whisper. The shadow hesitated before stepping closer. It was Julia, the head maid. Her face was pale, her eyes darting nervously to the door as she knelt beside me. She carried a small bag, her hands trembling as she rummaged through it."Shh," she whispered, pulling out a damp cloth. "I don’t have long. They’ll notice if I’m

The guards threw Julia at my side. “So this was why you were confident enough to not break yet, huh. This little wrench has been helping you.” One of the guards stepped forward, his boots scraping against the concrete floor, and drove his foot into Julia's side. She crumpled with a muffled groan, clutching her stomach. I lunged forward instinctively, but the heavy chains held me in place."Leave her alone!" I snarled, but my voice cracked, making my weakness obvious. The guard sneered, leaning closer and spat on her face. Before he could strike again, the door burst open with a force that echoed through the room. Every head turned. Standing in the doorway was him, Dylan, my former mate.“What the fuck is going on here?” He asked with fury in his eyes. If he could breathe fire, there would be steam coming out of his nose and ears. He was angry. Stephanie, noticing his presence, had gone as docile as a dove, itching her head as if she knew nothing. “Um… you see… I was just punis

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 8: The shadow in the corner

Mima's POV I woke up with a start as I stood up from the bed. There was a beeping sound in the room and the walls and ceilings were white. I was confused about where I was but after looking down and seeing the numerous tubes attached to me, I remember that I was in the pack clinic.I had sweat gathered on my forehead from the nightmare I had. Seeing my brother die all over again. A tear slipped from my left eye and I raised my bandages hand to clean it. I looked down at myself and noticed that my clothes had been changed. My wounds were bandaged. Basically all of me was covered in bandages. Any small movement I made would make me wince. I was still observing my wounds when someone entered the room. It was a small lady in a white nurse gown. She must be here to check my health. She held a clipboard in her hand and asked how I was doing, giving me a small smile that didn't reach her eyes. She did all she came to do and left. The door opened seconds later and Julia wheeled herself in.

Mima's POV The door creaked open, I barely had time to wipe my tears from my cheeks when Dylan's tall figure appeared in the doorway, his eyes shone with the same cold and sketchy look it always had. I hated how that look made my skin crawl, but it was the only thing I’d ever known from him.“What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, it was still a bit shaky from crying. Dylan stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, his boots making a sharp click against the floor. His eyes roamed my body, observing my injuries and lingering for a moment too long before meeting my eyes again. “I came to offer you a deal,” he said, his tone smooth, almost deceptively casual.I frowned, narrowing my eyes. “A deal?”He moved closer, a smirk playing on his lips, as if he was savoring the moment. “Oh poor Mima. I heard all about how Stephanie is treating you. I mean, she must be doing it out of spite that you were my mate. She will continue to torture you as long as you

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 10: Mima’s POV

I finally got discharged from the pack clinic after four days and I went back to my normal life. Julia, the head maid, had been discharged a day before I was. My wounds were almost completely healed and I could move well without crutches. The scars were still there though and once in a while, I would feel aches and pains in my sides. After the night that Dylan came into my room, my wounds slowly started to heal by itself. My Wolf's presence even came out just a little. I could feel her. I wondered what motivated her to come out.I tried to not think that it was Dylan, because why would she come out for the one that rejected her? I sometimes spoke to her even though she never replied or gave me a sign that she was listening. I limped to my room when I felt my hair dragged and I almost fell backwards as I stumbled. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me who I had just encountered. I turned around and there she was, Stephanie looking at me with red eyes, puffy eyes. She looked as if sh

But what is Stephanie planning to do with them? Is she planning to sell them to these sketchy men? What kind of experiments did they practice on them?My mind swirled with many unanswered questions. The men started raising their hands to point at any of the lined up people. There were 10 in total and Zahra was the 9th person. She must have not noticed me yet because she looked ahead at Stephanie, her face in a scrowl. I closed my eyes and prayed fervently in my heart that Zahra shouldn't get chosen but once again, luck wasn't on my side. The shortest of the men turned to her side and stared for a long while before pointing at her to be chosen. All eyes in the room turned to Zahra and she looked like she was about to make a scene. Mima's POVIt was finally dinner time and the dining hall buzzed with murmurs as I walked towards it. When I stepped in, all eyes turned to me and their noises stopped “Good evening everyone.” Those who were seated were Zahra, Ria and Kian, Beck, Julia who kept fidgeting for some reason, Kia and Daria.“Good evening, Luna.” Beck and Daria replied. Zahra just nodded and Kia kept bouncing in his seat. Ria and Kian made eye contact with me and I nodded to them.Beck did a good job. Their dirty clothes were changed and they were in new attires. Ria kept staring at Kia who's seat was close to mine.I'm glad she's seated far from him for now. She mentioned that killing him will solve it all, even though she has agreed to be an ally, I still don't trust her. She could injure him when I'm not looking. “I have called you all here today to talk about something very important, or two important things that will affect our pack.” They nodded and I took my seat. “Let's have dinner first.” Da

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 79: OVERWHELMED

Mima's POV I walked back to the mansion and up to Rake's room, slumping on the bed with my arms spread out wide. My whole body ached and I haven't gotten a moment of rest since I got these powers from the goddess. It more of a blessing and a curse now. I got up and walked over to the bathroom. I stink and when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I looked like those witches from children's fairytales. No wonder everyone was staring at me.I turned the tab of the bathtub open and peeled off my clothes. I gently slid them off me and put my favourite bath bombs in the bath and took a dip. I let out a huge sigh once I was totally in and I closed my eyes.“I need to arrange my thoughts” I said to myself in a low voice. First off, how to help Rake…My mate… we haven't had the chance to spend time together for real since I got here. It's always been one issue or the other. How would I heal him? I need to find a way. My body was tense, muscles tightened, ready to lash out if necessary.I didn't have any more strength, my breath kept coming out in gaps. I didn’t have time for distractions, yet here I was, staring down Kia’s sister and her mate as they stepped hesitantly from their hiding place.I arched a brow at them, unimpressed. “You were following me.”The woman swallowed, her mate stepping slightly in front of her as if to shield her from my irritation. “ We have been following you for a while. You just didn't notice. We saw you take out the shadows,” she admitted. “We want to fight on your side.”I exhaled sharply, narrowing my eyes. “And I’m just supposed to believe that? You kidnapped me!”She hesitated but held her ground, staring at me with begging eyes. She stepped forward and I took another one back, her mate walked in front of her to stop h

Mima’s POVI kept running.Branches lashed at my arms and face, but I didn’t stop. My heartbeat pounded in my ears, my lungs burned, and my legs ached from exhaustion. The forest stretched endlessly before me but I pushed forward. My chest was hurting and my breath came in ragged gasps, but I refused to slow down. Then suddenly, the ground beneath my feet vanished and I stumbled, my hands scraping against the slippery floor as I fought to regain balance. I felt a sharp sting in my palms, but I bit down my pain, forcing myself upright. I had no time to check the damage.I must have struck a pointy wood or something.I tried getting up again, only to slip and fall into some mud again so I exhaled, forcing my breathing to slow as I crept forward on all fours instead. I couldn’t afford to be reckless. My head throbbed, a dull ache spreading from the base of my skull. When I tried to move, I realized I couldn’t, my wrists were tied behind me and my ankles were bound to the legs of the chair. The ropes were tight, digging into my skin and making me wince as I pulled at it.The only sound I could hear was the pitter, patter of the rain on the roof of the building and a drip from a leaking ceiling. I inhaled slowly, forcing myself to stay calm. I need to be calm about this. Daggers. I needed my daggers.I twisted my arms, reaching for the familiar weight underneath my clothes, but it wasn’t there. My heart pounded. They had taken them. Rake's POVMy whole body aches as I ran into the halls, freezing in place as I came face to face with the many decorations on the wall. What the hell did I even miss? What is the meaning of all of this? I clung to my injured waist that seemed like the wound was reopening with every step that I took. A maid was passing by and I stopped her. “Excuse me.” She first looked extremely surprised at seeing me and then remembered who she was in front of. She slightly bowed, waiting for me to speak.“What is going on here? Whats with all the decorations?” “It's for the presentation of the Luna before the pack.” She replied and I could feel a vein popping out on my forehead. The what?! “Explain” my voice is hard and as if she could sense my anger, she trembled in fear.“The elders organised it for the Luna to address herself in front of the packs Nd announce herself as your stand in until your doing better.” She trembled some more and I became aware of the fact that my anger was sleeping

Mima's POV Did they need to make such a big fuss about all this? Rake isn't dead so what's the meaning of this huge celebration like someone's getting married or someone is having a child?I stopped one of the maids and asked what's going on just to be sure. “It's for the Luna's swearing in. I can't wait to meet her.” The bubbly little girl said and I just shook my head. I dismissed her and she walked away, going to carry another tray of flowers. Could this get any worse? Disgust filled me as I thought of how the elders were acting like I am here to fully take over Rake's place. What do they take me for? Some sort of airhead that they will use to project what they want on the pack? I wouldn't let them succeed in whatever foolery that they're trying too pull.I was about to walk over to one of the elders when I spotted a shadow in the corner of my eye that disrupts my course of thinking. I remembered that Kia is still holding on to my hands so I look down to him. “Why don't you g

Mima's POV “I'm so useless, Mima. I couldn't even help you. I couldn't help Rake. I should be the one in his place but he's there injured and I'm here with just light injuries.” “Rake stop. I don't need this from you right now. Just because you had minimal injuries compared to Rake had doesn't lessen what you went through. You just went through enough as he did. It wasn't your fault that they took you put first to put Rake at a disadvantage. More than being angry at you, I'm angry at Rake he didn't reach out to me when he could have.”Rake looked at me suspiciously. “ How would he be able to do that? You both haven't mated yet.” Confusion filled his expression.“That's true, we haven't but Rake gavee this necklace.” I pulled it out from under the neckline of my gown. “He said he would be able to communicate with me through it. He could have told me. I would have brought men to come and help you guys.” Beck nodded in understanding, amused at the necklace and then he smiled a little.
