69. I Don't Need Your Help
Aleks waited inside the treehouse.
Audre would be here any moment now, and he could hardly wait.
He knew she'd be angry. He was prepared to take all the backlash. She can yell at him all she wants, but he wouldn't back down. He wanted her so he'd have her.
He heard footsteps and then saw the ladder move as someone was climbing. Aleks smiled mischievously. There she is.
"Hey cutie," he said casually as she walked inside.
"YOU ASSHOLE!" Audre screamed and lunged herself at him, causing him to topple backward. Soon he was lying flat on the wooden floor with her on top. Good thing he laid down several blankets on top of the wooden board, so it didn't hurt his back. She grabbed his throat as if she wanted to strangle him.
"Whoa there, killer. I don't think this treehouse is strong enough to hold a wrestling match. It could fall and we could die or something," he chuckled.
"Not if I kill you first," she hissed. She still had her hand

"Hold it!" Audre stopped in her tracks as Blair shouted. "What is it?" Mia asked. "I forgot to take an extra life vest for Mitch. He is going to meet us there, remember?" Audre almost asked why she is the one who has to get it if Blair forgot, but stopped. Maybe they want her to do an extra chore for them because she was the new girl. Audre forced herself to calm down, then tried to open the door and screamed for help a few more times, but there was no point. No one could hear her unless they passed by the shed. No one knew where she was. She reached for her phone but realized it wasn't in her pocket. Of all times, this was the time she forgot to bring her phone? Kim knows where she was going, Audre thought. Maybe she will realize something was wrong and look for her. But no one came to her rescue. She had lost track of time. It felt like she had been in there for hours. After a while, she started to panic again. The shed didn't have any window, so she had no idea whether it was dark outside. There was a small lightbulb hanging from the ceiling that was barely bright enough to light the room. It was quiet, and it was scary. Audre crouched down in a corner. She broke into a cold sweat and started to shiver. Was this a punishment for something she did? But she had done nothing wrong!

"Audre! Wake up!" Someone shook Audre awake. She groaned in frustration as she was having an amazing dream. And now it was ruined by the rude awakening. "Ugh...what?" she said when she opened her eyes. "You gotta get up. Aleks is leaving." Audre's eyes snapped open, and she saw Kim's concerned face. "What are you talking about?" Audre asked. "He got in trouble for beating up Ronnie, so Elliot is kicking him out of the camp," Kim said. No. This can't be happening, Audre thought. Aleks works so hard on this camp and now he is being kicked out because of her! She felt terrible. "I need to go see him," she said. She quickly got up and got ready. Aleks was in his cabin, packing his bags. He had a dark shadow looming over her face. "Aleks." Audre's voice was barely audible. She felt like crying. Aleks looked up and for a brief moment, his eyes lit up. "Hey cutie, you're up early."

Ansel paced back and forth, thinking about Audre. That girl was just supposed to be having fun, but now she got herself wrapped up with some boy.
