Rachel
I unlock the front door to our home as I arrive for my lunch break. I am glad work is close by so I can come home for lunch and relax rather than listen to the gossip and backstabbing by other she-wolves. Being a pack accountant keeps me busy, especially with the switch in power. I worry about this pack’s future under the leadership of Alpha Jake. His father is the only one that would take us in, but it was better than staying rogue.
I hear a knock at the front door and laugh to myself. Ken must’ve forgotten his keys again and is locked out.
“Ken one of these days I won’t be home to let you in,” I chuckle as I open the door. I immediately bow my head in submission and wipe the shocked look off my face.
“Alpha, I apologize. I thought you were my mate.”
“Hello Rachel. Does Ken often lock himself out of the house?”
“Yes sir. Uh…please come in.”
I reluctantly open the door wider and play the perfect hostess. I am not sure why the Alpha wants to see me, but I know it can’t be good. I have a feeling we are going to have to flee.
“Rachel, I met your very interesting daughter today. Or should I say niece.”
“I’ve raised her since infancy. She is my daughter.”
“Tell me, how did your sister die?”
“I don’t know Alpha. I was away on my honeymoon with Ken when she died. We returned immediately when we heard and adopted Haley.”
I do my best to stick to the truth as much as possible without giving any secrets away. He must know what Haley is or he wouldn’t be questioning me about my sister. I know my sister kidnapped because of being the blood red wolf, but by the time I found her she had already died. I really don’t know what killed her, all I know is she was a blood red wolf and that it is a horrible curse for her and her mate. I wish I knew more about it.
“Your daughter showed some promise at being a high ranking warrior. I have never seen a pup fight like she does. I am quite impressed.”
“Thank you Alpha. Ken trained her since she was five.”
“Who did I train,” I hear Ken ask as he opens the front door. He freezes when he sees Alpha Jake in our home and bows his head in submission.
“Forgive me Alpha, I wasn’t aware we had company.”
“It’s alright Ken. We were discussing your daughter’s potential as a skilled warrior.”
“Oh yes, I began her training when she turned five.
“A bit early to be training a pup to fight, don’t you think?”
“We wanted her to be able to protect herself. My sister-in-law was not a warrior,” Ken informs him.
“I want Haley to begin training with my warriors. When she comes of age she will be my head trainer and come live at the pack house.”
“Forgive me Alpha, but she is just a pup. We can’t give her permission to train will fully grown wolves,” I state firmly.
“I wasn’t asking permission Rachel.”
He is pushing his aura towards me and Ken, making us submit to his order. He has an evil glint in his eyes and I am sure he knows what she is, but I am not sure why he wants her so badly. What does he know about the curse that I do not?
“Yes Alpha,” I stutter as I bow my head in submission to him.
“May I accompany her to the training field,” asks Ken.
“No. She doesn’t need her parents to chaperone her. She will be safe under my protection.”
“But Alpha…..”
“I expect to see her every day after school and on weekends.” He raises his voice, letting us know this is not up for discussion.
“Yes Alpha,” says Ken in defeat.
“Good. Her training starts tomorrow.”
Alpha Jake and his beta leave our house. Tears spill down my cheeks as Ken wraps his arms around me to comfort me. We can no longer stay in this pack, but that means we have to go rogue again. No other pack would take us in last time and I'm sure it'll be the same way this time around.
“We must hurry and gather the essentials only Rachel. We must flee tonight.”
“Haley will be heartbroken we have to leave before her birthday.”
“I know, but we don’t have much of a choice now do we. He knows what she is, I'm sure of it.”
“I know Ken.”
“Mom! Dad! I’m home! You’ll never guess what happened today.”
Haley walks into the living room with a big smile on her face. She has come to love going to school and making friends. I hate to have to take that away from her. As Haley walks towards us she takes in the scene before her. I am trying to wipe my tears away.
“What’s wrong mom?”
“We had a visit from the Alpha today Haley,” says Ken.
“Really? He was at my school today and was watching me fight. He said I’d be a great warrior.”
“We have to leave Haley,” says Ken.
Haley’s eyes widen and tears begin to form in her eyes. I walk over to Haley and embrace her as the tears spill down her cheek.
“He knows doesn’t he?” The way she asks her question breaks my heart. I just want a normal life for this sweet girl.
“Yes, Haley. He knows.”
“When do we need to leave?”
“Tonight little wolf. Pack only what you need and can carry,” says Ken.
Haley nods her head and goes straight to her room to pack, Ken and I do the same. I pack very little clothes but make sure to grab all the books I have on the blood red wolf. It’s not much and they never revealed why they are sought after. We put everything we can in small backpacks that our wolves can carry and Ken has Haley ride on his back.
“We will protect Haley, try not to worry Rachel. Max and I will defend her until our last breath,” says my wolf Rain.
“I wish you knew something about the blood red wolf. How is it you wolves don’t know?”
“Neither Max nor I have run into a blood red wolf before. We are young wolves, we haven’t been connected to many humans to know.”
The sun has set and I am glad we live by the border. Ken and I shift, our wolves rubbing against Haley. She has her own backpack on as she climbs onto Max.
“You ready,” Rain asks Haley through the mind link.
“No, but we don’t have a choice. I’m sorry.”
“Do not apologize young one. It is not your fault,” says Rain, trying comfort her.
“Alright, let’s go,” says Max.
We race into the darkness and feel the snap of the pack bond break as we cross the border and break ties with the pack. We hear howling in the distance as we race away from Red Moon pack.
Haley I watch in horror as wild rogues break into our cabin. Wild rogues tend to lose their humanity after being in wolf form too long and kill without a second thought. My father has shifted into his wolf, Max, fighting them off to give my mother time to save me. My father is bleeding in several places as the rogues continue to sink their teeth into his skin. My mother picks me, rushing me upstairs and I watch with tears in my eyes as my father disappears from view as he cries out. My mother is emotionless as she locks her bedroom door, pushing her heavy dresser in front of it. She quickly throws my winter boots and a winter coat on me. She jumps from the banging at the door and hearing the growls from the rogues. “Haley you must run and don’t stop!” She is opening the bedroom window and ushering me out into the cold winter forest. It’s pitch black out with no moon out tonight, making it difficult to see since I do not have my wolf yet. The trees are bare of leaves and a white b
Haley “Good morning Alpha,” we say together, keeping our eyes to the ground and hope he is not in a mood this morning and I don’t mean a bad mood. “It must be my lucky day to find two of my female slaves in my office this morning. Who wants the honor to pleasure me this morning?” I can see Ashley shudder at what the Alpha is asking us. She has been lucky to avoid the Alpha paying special attention to her and I keep praying to the moon goddess it stays that way. We see his feet moving closer to us and he forces us with his hand to raise our chins, to meet his gaze. He has that sick look in his eyes and I know exactly what he wants. “How about you little wolf,” he whispers in Ashley’s face. “I’d be happy to Alpha,” I purr at him. He looks my way with lust in his eyes as a tear falls from Ashley’s face. I move closer to him and place my hand on his chest. “Come on Alpha, you know I am your favorite and I have never let you down. She doesn’t even know what to do, let me take care of
Haley I get back downstairs and wake up the girls. We all get ready for today when we hear commotion upstairs. We rush up the steps to find James being dragged along the ground by silver chains hooked up to quads. We stand on the patio and watch in horror. “Now James, did you really think you wouldn’t get caught?” “Alpha, please have mercy.” “Mercy? I don’t think that is a part of my vocabulary now is it Beta?” Alpha Jake and the rest of his wolves laugh though I know this isn’t a joke. Alpha Jake doesn’t do mercy, I just hope they kill him quickly. “Not that I recall Alpha,” laughs beta Carson. “Now was it just you or did you have some help?” James eyes flicker to mine before back down on the ground. Shit. I didn’t help him exactly but I didn’t alert the guards either. Alpha Jake turns and looks my way. He makes a tsking sound as he walks towards me. “Girls leave and start your chores. Now,” I whisper to them as I watch Alpha Jake get closer. Samantha and Ashley leave me
Haley Alpha Jake leaves the basement and I stare at the two sleeping girls next to me. Alpha Jake’s hot and cold attitude gives me whiplash. It’s like I’m his favorite pet. A stray tear falls as I wake up the girls. “Haley! Are you okay? Where did the rag go?” “I’m so sorry Ashley. Alpha wants you in his office, now,” I inform her in a hoarse voice. “What?” “He wouldn’t let me because of the wolfsbane I’ve been inhaling. I’m so sorry.” I feel so guilty I couldn’t protect her from the Alpha longer, but I knew this eventually would happen. I wish he would just find a Luna already so he will leave us alone. Probably naive thinking, but it may be a bit better. Poor Ashley is shaking as Samantha instructs her as best as she can at what to do. We give Ashley a hug before she heads upstairs. I look at the clock and find it’s only five thirty. I stand and quickly dress while shoving clothes into a bag for Samantha and Ashley. It’s not perfect timing and I didn't get a chance to send th
Alpha Avery “No! Please let me go!” “Shut the brat up already," yells the rogue leader. “Victor they’re here for him, we need to get out of here now! We’re being slaughtered.” “Throw him in the tank,” orders Victor “Get off of me!” I struggle against the disgusting rogue's claws. He drags me to the tank filled with water infused with wolfsbane. I wish I had by wolf, we would’ve kill these bastards already. I do my best to try and claw out his eyes with my dull finger nails but that just pisses him off more. The metal lid to the tank bangs as it is opened. The smell off wolfsbane hits my nose and I it makes me want to vomit. “Avery!” I hear my dad’s voice through the mind link just as I am being tossed in the tank. The lid is slammed shut and locked. My whole body burns as the wolfsbane soaks into my skin. I bang against the lid as I try to stay afloat. “Daddy!” I begin to sink to the bottom, my lungs filling with the wolfsbane water, burning me from the inside out. I si
Alpha Avery The drive back to Crescent Moon is long with an awkward silence among my mom, brother and me. Mom knows I have been waiting for her to tell me the whole truth of when dad died, but she has yet to make the first move. I really don’t want to order her to tell me but I will if I have to. Both Mason and I deserve to know. “So are we just going to continue to ignore each other or are you finally going to tell me and Mason about dad?” Mom sighs, but refuses to meet my gaze. “Your father thought he was doing what was best at the time. The Riveria’s had a daughter that was born cursed with the blood red wolf.” “You mean that story you told us when we were kids?” “Wait, it’s true,” says Mason. “Yes, your great great great uncle, Henri Lavigne, died due to his mate being the blood red wolf.” “How did he die,” asks Mason. “No one knows but it is certain that it is the blood red wolf’s fault.” “So you’re telling me dad risked his life for a cursed wolf?” I can’t believe dad
Alpha Avery The next day I am awakened early by border portal. I rush out the door and head to their location. Something about two she-wolves in distress, seeking sanctuary. When I arrive I am shocked at the two girls appearance. They have refused to shift, but even in their wolf forms I can tell they very thin like they have been starved. I order my men to back up and give them space. “Grab me some tee-shirts for them.” “Yes, Alpha.” “We are not going to hurt you. Please shift so I can speak with you.” I can see the girls hesitate as one of them begins to shift while the other whimpers at her. I toss the blonde the tee shirt for her to put on. “Please don’t send us back, we'd rather you kill us than send us back.” “Back to where?” “Red Moon.” “Were you two slaves?” “Yes Alpha.” The poor girl has tears in eyes and such fear. She is taking in her surroundings and I can tell she is preparing to book it if necessary. “You are in Crescent Moon. We are the first pack to have ab
Alpha Avery The next morning I get up extra early to spar with my brother. He’s two years younger than me and inherited mom’s brown eyes, but we both have dad’s thick brown hair. I have dad’s blue eyes. I can tell he’s been training hard while I’ve been gone since he’s holding his own against me quite well. “Stop dropping your left arm. It leaves you open.” I take advantage of his weakness and hit him a few times in the ribs before wrestling him down to the ground. He quickly taps out. “Alright, alright. You’ve proved your point. I still have a long way to go.” I chuckle at him and lend him a hand up. “I’m the Alpha, I’m suppose to be able to beat you.” “So you really are going to let a slave pack throw you a birthday party?” “Yep, you and our strongest warriors are coming too. I am going to make him give me that slave girl, Haley, as a birthday gift. We will get some much needed intel while we are there too.” “Alright. I’ll debrief the warriors, you have fun with your phone

Alpha Avery 10 years later…… “Daddy! Paisley!” I did as Haley asked except the moon goddess blessed me with a second chance mate when the twins turned six. It took me awhile to accept her, but she has made me happy and was so good with the twins. That is what Haley wanted. I groan as the twins burst into my room and jump on my back. I peak an eye out at them as they stare a hole into me. I can’t help but chuckle. “Daddy wake up!” I roll over, pinning them both under me and they squeal as I tickle them. “Stop Daddy, stop,” they say through their giggles. “Happy Birthday you two.” “What are we doing today,” asks Asher. “I think it’s time I took you somewhere special.” “Are you finally going to tell us about mom,” asks Alina. “Yeah sweetheart. I think it’s time you finally knew about her. Go get dressed, we needs some breakfast first.” They both rush out the door, racing each other to their rooms. I laugh at how competitive they are. Alina is so much like Haley that it makes
Alpha AveryIt’s been a week since Haley died and we are finally having her funeral. We had a mass funeral for all those that died and now we are all saying goodbye to our Luna. Many kids are heartbroken at the loss of their music teacher and asked if they could all play a piece during her funeral. I couldn’t deny them. Nick and Ray worked with all of them to be prepared for today.I am in the nursery getting the twins ready for the funeral. They are barely a month old, too young to lose their mother. Besides her eyes, Alina looks just like her mother and I am sure that likeness will only grow as she ages. Asher has Haley’s eyes, hair and skin tone but his structure looks like me.“Avery, are you ready,” asks Akila as she walks in.“I am ready as can be. Do you mind grabbing Alina.”“Of course.”Akila grabs Alina and looks at
Alpha AveryI wake to find I am sleeping in my room and and the twins are no where in sight. I begin to panic but Dr. Sully pushes me to lay down.“Easy Alpha. You are mentally exhausted and have been out for two days. You’ve been through a lot.”“Where are my pups.”“They’re in the nursery Alpha. They are okay, your brother and his mate are looking after them. I did a check up on them and they are both growing just fine.”“I need to be there for them. Haley…. I promised Haley I would be there for them.”“Alpha. Shutting yourself in the nursery with them is not being there for them. I don’t think that is what Luna would want.”I run my hands through my hair and notice the letter on the night stand. I still haven’t opened it.“I’d suggest you read that Avery. She had something to tell you, you should listen.&rdquo
Haley“Watch over them Avery. Live for me, live for them.”A tear falls as I know this is what will break the curse. The selflessness of sacrificing my life for my mates, something no other blood red wolf has done. I may never see my children again but at least I know this will save her future. I kiss Avery’s forehead before placing my lips on his.“Haley stop!”I can hear Mason getting closer, but I know he is too late. I can feel my life slipping from me into Avery. I can feel him getting warmer as I get colder. Mason reaches me just as I hear Avery’s heart beat. I gladly let the darkness consume me as Avery’s eyes flutter open.Alpha AveryI feel a warmth spread throughout my body which I find weird since I know I am dead.&n
HaleyI see Avery fighting Jake and kicking his ass. It makes my heart swell with pride. Just as Avery approaches Jake three of the wolves Mason and I were fighting change direction straight for Avery. Mason and I took out the rest and he is finishing his kill with the wolf in his teeth as I chase after the three.“Avery watch out,” I yell through the mind link, but I am too late. The three wolves all sink their teeth into Avery as he scrambles to fight them off. I tackle a wolf off of him, but it’s not enough. Jake pounces on Avery and rips his throat out. Mason attacks the other two wolves and kills them. I can see the life leave Avery and Hazel howls in pain.Mason turns his attention to Jake and we both circle him. I can see fear in his eyes as he realizes he is all alone. He tries to back away and take off into the forest
Haley It is utter chaos as we clash with the enemy. It doesn’t take any time at all for the grass to turn red as wolves lose their lives. I wish it didn’t have to be this way, I wish no lives had to be lost. I give Hazel full control and she easily pounces on wolf after wolf, killing each one as we go. Spartan hasn’t left our side and seems very in sync with Hazel as they fight together. I feel Spartan is distressed about something and we see Axel take off towards the cottage. I look in it’s direction and see it’s on fire. I panic and sprint off towards the cottage with Spartan on my heels. I try to mind link the boys. “Nick? Ray?” Neither one of them answer me and that makes me panic even more. As we come up in view of the cottage I see Mason carrying Akila off towards the pack house. The house is engulfed and I howl at the moon. “Haley,” I hear Nick through the mind link. “Where are you?” “The twins are fine, they are safe. We had to flee to the pack house. How is Akila?” “I
AkilaViolet and I can hear the howling turn into snarls and we know the battle has begun. Violet is nervous, it’s been awhile since she has had to fight. Along with using the protective spell in the field where the battle has taken place, I did one around the cottage as well. I know the witches will be coming for me and Alina. Nick rushes into the room and locks the door.“What’s wrong Nick?”“The traitor is in the cottage. I think it’s Henry or maybe both of them.”“What do we do?”“Ray and I are going to confront them and take whoever we need out. Do not open this door for anyone. I am leaving the key with you so no one can get it.”Just as quickly as he came, he left. I lock the door and I pray to the moon goddess the boys will be alright.NickAs soon as Avery told us
Alpha AveryThe next morning it is eerily quiet. There are no birds singing and the sun isn’t out due to the overcast sky. There is even light rain here and there. Mason has wolves doing another perimeter check as well as checking to ensure the bunkers are sealed tight. Red Moon and their allies have been arriving throughout the night last night, setting up camp about seven hundred yards from my west and northern borders.Every wolf is getting last minute sparing in and choosing weapons for those who prefer to fight in their human form. I look over and see Akila using a wet stone, sharpening a sword.“You know how to use that thing?”“Yes. I wanted to be well versed in a weapon along with my martial arts skills. Using magic is a last resort since it drains me and could leave me vulnerable.”“I may have to put you in charge of training my men,” I
