“Open your eyes, coward!” My head snapped to the sound of Layla’s voice. She was pissed off. I haven’t heard Layla that angry since he last fought with Willie in high school. My blood turned to ice in my veins.Mate! Mate is in danger, my wolf howled, must get to her.
Fuck. The only person that ever managed to anger Layla that much was Willie. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I began to sprint down the sidewalk. I dodged other Pack members as I weaved toward Layla’s voice. My blood rushed in my ears and I felt my heartbeat quicken. Adrenaline surged through my veins as I ran. “Not so tough now, are you bitch?” “Shit,” I cursed under my breath. She’s really angry. I have to make it. I have to be faster. I turned the corner and stopped dead in my tracks. There was Layla, standing next to Owen’s truck, staring at me with wide eyes. She was mid-transformation and her hands were wrapped around Willie’s slender neck as she dangled in the air and clawed to Layla’s grip. Her claws were digging into Willie’s pale skin and her crimson blood dripped down her shredded blouse. A deep growl erupted from the back of my throat and anger flared inside as I saw Willie’s face start to turn purple as she gasped for air. “What the FUCK are you doing? Let her go!” Layla’s eyes were as wide as saucers. She took a step back and released her grip on Willie who fell to the ground like a rag doll. She reached up and grabbed her throat. I watched in horror as she began to cough and wheeze. “Holy shit, Layla!” I growled. I was beyond furious. Looking at Willie as she struggled to breathe made me see red. “Rune.. I-I..” Layla sputtered but I didn’t want to hear it. She took a step toward Willow, maybe trying to comfort her, and I snapped. “You could’ve fucking killed her! Get the fuck away from her!” I shoved her away and didn’t bother to watch as she ran down the street and got back into her car. I kneeled on the sidewalk beside the truck and pulled her into my chest. I wrapped my arms around Willie as she sobbed and gasped, struggling to breathe. I stroked her hair and took in her feminine scent as I held her close to me. I didn’t care that she was too out of it for her to recognize that it was me hugging her, I just wanted to stay in the moment. I fully realized that when she knew it was me who was comforting her, she would try to push away. I tried to savor the moment before it would inevitably fall apart. I’m screwed. This girl is my obsession. My downfall. She looked up at me with her teary blue eyes and I gave her a small grin. She immediately flinched and those pretty eyes of hers widened like a doe. “Holy shit, Willie. Are you alright?” I stared down at her. She could’ve died. Layla could’ve killed her. It would’ve been easy. She said nothing and tried to wiggle away from me. I tightened my grip in response to her struggling and pulled her closer to my chest so she was flush to my body as I kneeled on the sidewalk beside her. “Dammit, Willie. Stop struggling.” I growled and stared down at her with frustration. “Just settle down. You can’t get up yet.” “Let me go. Rune, let go.” She continued to try and writhe away from me. I frowned. Willie was always stubborn as an ass. She wasn’t going to listen to me unless I gave her a reason. “Willie. I said stop. You can’t get up yet, you could pass out.” I explained as she kept struggling. “Fuck,” I hissed. “Do you ever do what you’re told?” Willie laid limp in my lap. I smiled in approval. “Good girl.” I saw her face heat up at our closeness and watched as she averted her eyes. Aww. She was shy. Cute. “When can I get up? You know, since you’re apparently a doctor now?” She snapped sarcastically. I couldn’t help but laugh. This was Willie alright. She has a wild tongue. Her tone alone is a punishable offense. I made a mental note to add this infraction to the list I already had going against her. Damn. I couldn’t wait until she was mine. The things I wanted to do with her body… I hooked my finger under her slender chin and drew her gaze up toward mine so she has no choice but to stare into my eyes. I wasn’t laughing anymore. This was serious. Willow could’ve died. I almost lost her. If I didn’t make it in time... No. I made it. Willie is fine. She’s going to be okay. “Are you alright, Willie?” I asked her. I watched as she bit her lip. Fuck. I hate it when she does that. Unbeknownst to my sexual frustration, she nodded. “I’ll live.” She paused as if she was in deep thought and I wondered what was going through her head. “...thanks.” She mumbled. I couldn’t help but raise a brow. “Did the Willow Howard actually thank me?” She rolled her eyes and punched my chest with her tiny fists and I laughed again. “You asshole. I was trying to thank you.” “I know how you can thank me.” I winked and her face turned bright red. Adorable. She scrunched up her nose. “In your dreams, Marmaduke.” “Marmaduke? That’s a new one.” I mused. She shrugged as if it didn’t matter but her plump lips were twisted in a wide grin and her blue eyes sparkled in amusement. “Yeah. I’m trying to find new and creative ways to insult you.” Yeah... she definitely needs some correction, I thought to myself with a smile. The horizontal kind. The kind where she’s writhing beneath me. “I see. Well, Marmaduke is a weak one. You and I both know you can do better than that.” She bit her lip again. Fuck. This woman. “Yeah. I suppose you’re right. Maybe I should call you Ol’ Yeller instead.” She stuck her tongue out at me. I stared at her. She was snappy and feisty and everything I’ve ever wanted. She’s going to make the perfect Luna. The traits we pass on to our children.. they will rule the world. Apparently, I was staring at her for too long without saying a word because she struggled in my grasp again with a nervous laugh. “Ahah.. yeah. So, I’m fine. I guess I’ll see you around?” She just expects me to leave her? After she was almost strangled to death. I don’t think so. “No.” “No?” “No.” “What do you mean ‘no’?” I sighed. “I’m taking you to the hospital. You need to be seen. Those wounds on your neck are nasty. I don’t want them to get infected.” She shook her head and once again tried to escape. I held her tighter and she glared up at me. “I’m fine, Rune. I can just take care of them back at Papa’s House. Or Owen can help.” I watched as her face once again turned bright red. “A-actually he’s gonna be back any minute now so..” “I’m taking you to the hospital. No arguments. I say you need to be seen so you’re damn well going to be seen! Now stop being so stubborn!” I snapped at her. She was infuriating. She never listens. She never just obeys. That wasn’t in her nature. And I loved it. “I don’t have to listen to you—ahh!” She exclaimed as I hooked my arms around her back and knees and lifted her into the air. “Let me down! I mean it Rune. I’m not going to the hospital.” She stared up at me with absolute fury in her eyes. I smirked down at her. “Oh sweetheart, you don’t have a choice.”Willlow I am absolutely mortified as Rune carries me down the street. Other Pack members snicker and gossip as we pass. They avert their eyes and begin to speak quietly. A group of younger teenage boys whistle at Rune who shoots them a glare. I am completely confused and embarrassed as to why people are acting this way. I look up at Rune and there is an unrecognizable expression on his face. Is it pain? It sure as hell isnt embarrassment. “What’s going on?” I ask, motioning with my hand to all the snickering bystanders. I’ve never seen the Pack act this way. Something flashes in his eyes, another emotion I can’t place and he purses his lips as he stares down at me. In a moment, his expression is replaced with another cocky smirk. “Nothing doll, they’re just excited for the Alpha contest. I’m sure you’ve heard about it?” I hesitate to answer. It seems like he’s lying. This would make sense, since it’s not surprising coming from him, but lately it feels like everyone’s lying to me
WillowI felt Owen's eyes searing the side of my face the entire drive back from the hospital. He gripped the steering wheel with white knuckles the entire way to Papa's. I caught him looking at my bandaged neck multiple times. He gave me guilty looks out of the corner of his eye, always keeping his eyes transfixed on the road. We both stayed relatively quiet, only engaging in smalltalk a few times, as we continued our journey. Finally, when Owen pulled into the dirt driveway, I had enough. "Can you stop moping around, dude?" I hopped out of the truck and closed the door with an audible slam. Owen frowned and followed suit, locking the truck and leading the way up the stairs to the porch. "I am not moping."I followed at his heels, keeping my arms crossed. "Then why won't you talk to me?" I pressed. He turned the key I gave him into the lock and opened the door. "Maybe I just don't want to talk." I followed him into the house and he shut the door behind us. He stood in front of me
Owen"You don't have to stay again, honestly, I insist." Willow stood before me, a pillow in her arms, her hair pulled over her shoulder to one side. She was once again being stubborn. I shook my head. "No. I'm staying." I didn't trust Layla, or anyone else, and I would be damned if I let something else happen to her while I was away. I wasn't going to let her out of my sight again. I couldn't forgive myself if someone else hurt her. She let out an exasperated sigh. "You aren't budging on this, are you?"I shook my head and gave her a grin. "Not a chance."She studied my face for a moment, obviously trying to get me to relent, but I had no intentions of budging. She should know me better by now. She rolled her eyes. "Fine. I see I can't get you to change your mind, you're stubborn as ever."That makes two of us. "But I don't want you to sleep on the couch again." She winced as if the thought of me on the couch made her feel worse than ever. I shrugged. "It's fine. Stop worrying ab
Willow “Aren’t you two just so adorable!” Alexandra gushes as she takes my temperature. Rune shoots her a glare. Hm.. that was odd. Alexandra examines my eyes and asks about my pain level. “Um.. maybe a 4? It’s just my neck..” “Let me see?” I unbutton what is left of my blouse up until the third button. My bra peeks out from the ripped fabric and I blush. There’s no way Rune isn’t staring at me, being he pervert his is. Sure enough, when I tear my eyes away from Alexandra I see Rune’s eyes darken with lust. I shiver. “Oh my.. these won’t need stitches thankfully, but I am going to cover them and use butterfly bandages. There will be some bruising for a few days but no major scarring.” Alexandra turns away and heads toward the cabinet where she grabs some peroxide and bandages. She pours some peroxide on a cotton ball and I hiss when it stings my neck. “I’m sorry dear..” “It’s fine.” I reassure her, it stings but it’s a fleeting pain. She skillfully wraps my neck in bandages
Rune Ugh. Willow and I were having such a moment. She was actually leaning against me and accepting my touch, unlike earlier. Willow wasn’t pushing me away or squirming in my grasp. She just sat limp, her pale face wet with tears that she never should have had to shed, as I wrapped my arms around her. I stroked her hair and tried to calm her as best I could, even though my rage was growing. I was going to have a talk with Layla. She knows better than to do something so reckless. I jumped up from the sofa and ran towards the stairs without a second thought. I climbed them two or three at a time, wanting nothing but to get to her. Was she okay? Why was she screaming? My heart nearly beat out of my chest and I stopped breathing until I made it to her bedroom door. I had no idea what I was going to find on the other side of the door but I was ready for it. Nothing else mattered in that moment. I slammed the door open and scanned the dark room with my eyes, searching for any signs of danger. Instead, all I saw was Willow's small frame, huddled close together, her legs drawn up to her chest. Tears streamed down her face as she visibly trembled. I immediately dropped my guard and rushed towards her. When she flinched at my approach I took a step back. "Willie? What's wrong? What happened?"She stared out in the da
Rune My father sits at his desk with a deep scowl on his face in contrast to his usual smile and calm demeanor. He may be the Alpha, but my father was always fair and just and made sure he never went around town taking the stress of the job with him. That burden always fell on him. Growing up I fucked up a lot, and I can admit I was a snot-nosed kid, but my father always tried to put me on the right path. I admired him for it. Willow My heart dropped to the floor when I got the phone call. In an instant, everything came rushing back, memories I’ve somehow forgotten over the years. My heart began to race as visions of a small town in Pennsylvania flashed before my eyes. Forgotten stories played in my mind and I had to steady myself on the counter with one hand when my knees buckled. My other hand gripped the phone so tightly I was afraid it might break. “Willie? Willie are you there, sweetheart?” Artie’s deep voice snapped me back to reality. Had it really been seven years? “Yeah... yeah.. I’m here.” I bit my lip as tears began to fall from my blue eyes so suddenly I didn’t notice them until they were streaming down my cheeks. There was a pause on the other line and then a sigh. “Sweetheart, I think you should come back to Blackwater.” When I didn’t respond he added “it’s what he would’ve wanted.” I stared out the window of my small New York City apartment on to the busy streets below. He was right.

Rune Willie Howard. Damn. She grew up. I smirk to myself as I bring a glass of aged whiskey to my lips. I savor the amber liquid as is burns it’s way down my throat and settles warmly in my stomach. I never thought I would see that blue eyed spitfire again. She grew out of her baby fat and into the face and body of a woman. Fuck. I could feel my jeans tightening at the mere thought of her body.
