*beep! Beep! Beep!~*
The tiny sound from the alarm clock filled the room as soon as it turns 7:00 am. The alarm didn't stop beeping until the man who was sleeping was aroused and reached for the clock to turn it off. Hyde got up from bed and prepared to go for a shower.
Twenty minutes later, the young man exited the bathroom with only a bath towel covering his slender yet masculine waist. The droplets from his wet damp hair made their paths down to his well-built body.
He shortly went to the counter and made a cup of coffee before he strolled over outside the balcony. He kept his eyes locked on the relaxing view of flowers in the garden while sipping his coffee.
"Never knew fourteen years had passed quickly." He told himself as he finished the bottom of his cup. Unwarily, tears began to form in his eyes and heavy breath escaped from him as the awful memories came back to him.
** Flashback**
"Mom! ... Dad! Wake up!"
"Mom... Dad!"
"Mom!~" The loud cry echoed in every side of the room as the young boy just came back to his consciousness. A part of his face was covered with bandages due to the diagonal wound given by the culprit.
Footsteps rushing towards the door began to be perceptible, and just a second ago the door opened. A group of three persons entered the room, a man wearing a white long coat and two ladies that are seemed to be nurses.
The nurses rushed toward the young boy, trying to calm him down while the doctor was examining him. Tears continued streaming down his face even though everyone tried to calm him down. The door opened again as the man in his mid-forties, wearing a brown suit and tie with a suitcase in his right hand entered the room. It was Bob, the family's lawyer, and most trusted man.
The boy slowly calmed down as soon as he saw the newcomer. Bob asked the doctor for a talk outside and asked about the boy's condition as they stepped outside the room. Ten minutes after, the lawyer came back.
The boy was staring outside the glass window and seemed to be in deep thought. But when he heard the door shut, he slowly turned to the person who just entered.
"Where are mom and dad?" His eyes have swollen and tired, and his voice was hoarse and dry. Bob let out a deep heavy sigh as he turned his head down and slightly shook his head.
"No, it can't be. Please tell me there's nothing happened to them." Tears began streaming down his reddened cheeks. He was still hoping that everything was fine, that it was just a nightmare.
"I'm sorry, young master." The young boy screamed as he burst into tears. He felt like going insane the second he knew the truth. So it was all true and not just an awful nightmare. Bob looked sympathetically at the young boy and comforted him in his embrace.
"Mom, Dad. Whoever made this to you, I'll make them pay. I promise" The boy firmly vowed to himself with a raging heart.
*****End of FLASHBACK**
He was too spaced out that he didn't notice the opening of the door. Entering was another young man around the same age as him, with grayish almond-shaped eyes that were almost covered by his dropped, wavy, copper-colored hair. It was Flynn, his one and only friend, a hacker, and the only person who knows his identity aside from his foster father James.
"Hyde ma men, how is it going?" Flynn greeted him but eventually paused upon noticing his appearance.
"Wait, you're not letting this cold weather freeze your whole body, aren't you?" The newcomer mocked. Hyde put down his empty cup and turned to face Flynn.
"Nope, I just got here." He replied blandly.
"Still thinking about it?" He knows what Flynn was talking about, but he chose to keep silent and stepped to grab his clothes.
"You're here, got anything?" Hyde asked as he wore his white long sleeves. Flynn settled himself on the midnight blue couch after throwing a small envelope on the coffee table.
Hyde has just finished putting on his black pants when he stepped towards the table and opened the brown envelope. A containing a sketch and some photos of a man was pulled out from the envelopes.
"I also examined some CCTV footage at the café you usually come to and found out he was the one who has been following you these past few days," Flynn explained. Hyde pulled out another document that contains the details of the man in the photo.
Even after his parents' death, his life has never been at peace. Threats continued haunting him which made him decide to cut ties with the people close to him-including Bob-and left the country.
Luckily, James Collins, his father's closest friend found him and decided to adopt him as his son. James was also the one who helped him with everything, from changing his whole identity to achieving his goal to become a police officer. And now, he was working at the Special Law Enforcement Agency under the department of his foster father who is the Chief-assigned at the Crime Investigation Division.
He was about to read the document when his phone rang, and Adeline's-one of his colleagues in the agency-name flashed on the screen. Without letting go of the document in his hand, Hyde answered the phone.
"Hello officer Collins, Chief Watson from the Cybercrime division was asking for an urgent meeting." The lady informed.
"Okay, I'll be there immediately." The young man answered and turned off the call. Then he slid back the document inside the envelope and put it inside the drawer at the bedside table.
"Emergency meeting?" Asked Flynn. Hyde only gave him a nod as a response and rushed outside the room after grabbing his black suit and car key.
"But he hasn't gotten something for breakfast yet. Tsk!" Flynn heaved out a deep sigh and shook his head.
On the way to the garage, Hyde hurriedly wore his black suit and went straight to his black Porsche 911 and drove towards the Agency. Upon his arrival at the building, he drifted the car to the underground parking space in the basement. He hopped out of the car and settled everything neatly before walking toward the elevator.
"Good morning sir." Everyone he passed in the block greeted him as he went out from the elevator when it opened on the fourth floor-the cybercrime department. He formally nodded his head to acknowledge their greetings. Everyone seemed to be busy with their own business.
Walking halfway towards the private meeting room, a smart lady in her late twenties appeared. It was Adeline White, the only rose of all the thorns in the Crime Investigation Department.
"Good morning Collins" She greeted him with a smile but the young man responded with a bland expression. The lady scoffed upon noticing his expressionless face.
"C'mon, why don't you try smiling at least once, huh? Look, can't you tell everyone seemed to be scared of you?" She commented.
"That's none of my business." He replied.
"Ugh, you're such an introvert brat, tsk! You keep acting like that and you won't be able to find a girlfriend." She hissed while rolling her eyes.
"Hitting on girls was never on my plans." He responded and opened the door for the lady as they entered the meeting hall. Three officers from the cybercrime department were already settled in their swiveled chairs and welcomed them, but the lady was the only one who greeted them back.
Just a few minutes after, the chief of the cybercrime department-Gregory Watson-came. The lights are turned off so that the pictures coming from the projector will be visible enough for everyone.
"I have just received a notice that this year's jewelry auction will be held at the Blue sapphire museum tomorrow night. And the highlight of this year's auction will be the 'Blue Moonlight'." Everyone's eyes were focused on the blue diamond necklace on the screen.
"The said accessory is worth 20M bucks and I'm sure that the group of people we've been eyeing for was preparing for their move to steal the jewel. Our departments were assigned to secure the vicinity around the venue. Luke, Quin, and Rex will look after the security cameras and other security devices to avoid security hacking, while agents White and Black will blend within the crowd and keep your keen eyes open to any suspicious persons. I'll let the security people guard outside the venue."
After the Chief discussed the mission's plan, the meeting ended and everyone was dismissed from the meeting hall. Everyone had their eyes filled with admiration toward Hyde and Adeline as they went out of the room.
What do they expect? They were looking at the fastest and strongest duo in the whole agency. Everyone in the department even called them "Light and Darkness" just because of their codenames.
"Hey Collins, you came this early. I bet you haven't eaten breakfast yet. Wanna come with me to the cafeteria?" Adeline invited him, but before he could give his answer, his phone rang and James' name appeared on the screen.
"Sorry, I can't come with you." That's all and he left.
"Come in." Said the man in his late fifties. He put the document on his table when Hyde entered the room.
"Your parents' fourteenth death anniversary is approaching, are you still not coming with me? I bet they'd missed you already." The man said as he sat straight on his chair.
"You'd better go ahead; I could visit them once I return to the country," Hyde explained.
"If this mission ends well, I'll definitely travel back to Black Crest so I could investigate thoroughly." James heaved out a deep sigh upon noticing the firmness and determination in his voice. He couldn't do anything to stop him, it's been his number one goal ever since he stepped foot in this country.
"Are you sure about it?" The man asked, just hoping if he could change Hyde's mind.
"Yes, I was bound to bring justice for my parents' death. I'll make that person pay." James tipped a smile while glancing at his eyes.
I just hope everything goes well according to plan. The man thought.
An hour and a half before the event, Hyde got himself ready. Flynn who was again slumping in front of the TV—like he usually did whenever he crash over his place—almost dropped his jaw when his friend came out from the closet. He’s indeed looking spectacular with his black Giorgio Armani suit that fitted well on his masculine build. He was fixing the button on his wrist when he noticed Flynn’s weird expression. He found it quite intimidating tho. “Stop giving me that look, it’s making me uncomfortable.” Hyde resorted bluntly. His companion let out a brief chuckle and replied… “Okay fine, I won’t. I’d better be back to my lair and do something interesting.” Hyde shook his head and let the other guy out of his sight. He might need him later when the mission ends. The young man took a last glance at the mirror and set his gun in the hidden pocket of his suit. Then, he went out of his room and rode the elevator towards the garage. This time, he drove his black Ferrari instead of his P
Hyde was silently observing Adeline from his post, waiting for her signal.“Seems like she’s enjoying it.” He scoffed and raised one corner of his lips. He knows what she is trying to do. That’s her specialty after all. If their target is a man, she’ll try to buy him some time until the other undercover agents will be spread around the area. And when everything is set, they could easily dominate the bad guys.“Should we attack sir?” Quinn sounded impatient.“No, hold it, unless the civilians’ security is already settled. Let’s wait for her signal.” He studied the man’s expression, he looked awfully uncomfortable yet, his other hand was still having its firm grip on his pistol.“Wh-Who are you?” Adeline bit her lower lip and drew a smirk.“Oh, dear. I’d bet you don’t wanna know me. It’s a bit confidential.” She said while playing with the man’s clenched jaw with the stroke of her finger, and she’d bet he likes it. She reached for the man’s ear. A slight shock came from Adeline when the
A familiar white ceiling welcomed Hyde the moment he opened his eyes, and the lemon scent of the disinfectant lingers on every side of the room—just like that day. He was certain he is currently confined in the hospital. But how did he end up here?Hyde sat up on the bed, resting his back on the well-varnished headboard, and slightly massaged his temple. He was trying to remember what happened last night since he could barely remember anything.“Damn it! I did it again.” He thought, brushing his hair in frustration.“Adie told me you suddenly fainted after successfully throwing the bomb away from the ship.” Hyde glanced at James who was standing near the glass window, crossing both of his arms on his chest. He didn’t notice he was there the whole time.“I see.” The young man commented when everything turned out clear to him. James left the window and was seated on the couch facing the bed.“You know you’re afraid of explosions and yet you still~”“I told you I’m not afraid of bombs—no
“You want to see me?” Hyde asked as he entered James’ office. He set himself on the chair when the man offered a seat.“Your request for a break was approved by the director just now.” James notified.“I see. I could finally grab a ticket back to Black Crest tomorrow immediately.” He said to himself.“Yeah, but Flynn must go with you.” Hyde hastily crossed his brows to the man’s suggestion.“What?”“I’ll ask Flynn to go with you.” “No, no one’s going with me. I don’t want anyone to be involved in my own battle.” He firmly said.“And I can’t let you enter this hell alone. Jack entrusted you to me, and I can’t just let you enter a battlefield without thinking about the consequences. I can be at ease if someone will accompany you.” Worries filled the man’s eyes as he locked his gaze on the young man.“No, my decision’s final, I can’t let Flynn come with me.” James heaved out a defeated sigh.“Okay, fine. But you must report to me every single plan you have. In case I could come up with b
In the far corner of the restaurant, Hyde chose to take the vacant table and glanced outside the glass window where the night was devoured by the bright luminescence lights guiding the streets and the moving cars on the busy highway. He never knew how fascinating the city is at night.“You must be Mr. Collins?” Hyde swiftly drifted his gazes when a man in his late fifties suddenly came to approach him. His skin started to wrinkle and some strands of his hair have turned to gray but his sophisticated eyes haven’t shown any change. Formality screamed out from the man’s appearance as Hyde darted his gazes at him.“Yes sir, Hyde Collins.” The inspector smiled and reached out for the young man’s hand then they sent a formal shake of hands before they seated on their seats.“Would you mind having dinner as we talk?”“Fine by you.” The man chuckled. Hyde called the waiter and asked him to present the course. The waiter nodded and left the table.“So you’re a son of James Collins.” Hyde looke
“Wait, Pa! Where are you going?” Tears fell from the man’s eyes as he gently caressed his son’s tender cheeks. Then a forced smile drew from his brims as he looked into his innocent confused eyes.“Aries, son. Will you promise papa you’ll look after mama?” Words that came out from his father’s utterances. The boy seemed to be clueless about what his father has said, but he managed to nod his head as response. And so the man began turning his back from his son and prepared to leave.“But where are you going?” the boy asked again. The man came back and gave the boy a very tight embrace.“Papa has to leave for work in few weeks. Mama might get lonely, please take care of her for me.”“Hmm, Don’t worry pa. I will take care of mama.” The boy’s innocent smile brought ache from his father’s heart, yet he tried not to show it to his son.And so the young boy gladly bid his father goodbye until he finally left the house. Little did he know, that would be the last time he would see his father.*
The rushing noise filled the city of Black Crest as the rapid pattering of the rain fell on Monday evening. The rain came unexpectedly, and there was no further warning for any storm coming from the weather forecast. Lucky for those citizens who came home early from work, they just had to settle in their homes waiting for their supper to be cooked. As for those who need to take an extra hour at work, the situation left them no choice but to travel home and take their risk waiting for the heavy traffic jam caused by the heavy rain.In one unit of the condominium building, there lived a lady in her near thirties, wearing a milky-white satin nightgown with her velvety curls falling freely down to her waist.
