Third-person POV
Zack woke up to the loud shrill of his alarm tone. Picking his phone up, he turned off the alarm before sitting up and wiping his face with his hands. Today, Monday has finally come. When Zack will be reintroduced by his grandmother to the company where he will be working in once again. Zack remembered Chris' words when he told him he was planning to resume work. Since then, they hadn't talked much, and in front of the family, the two would pretend as if everything was normal between them. Getting up from his bed, Zack went straight to the bathroom to do his morning routine, after which he brushed his teeth and took a shower. Coming out, Zack walked to his closet and came out wearing a black suit. He was about to start wearing his tie when a knock came on his door. Zack thought without a doubt that it would be his mother, but when he opened the door, he found his sister, Sawyer, instead. "Sawyer, hey," Zack said awkwardly. "Hi," the girl replied shyly. She was in her school uniform, and Zack wondered which grade she would be in. "So, uhm, do you want to come in?" Zack asked, when she wouldn't stop staring at him through her thick-rimmed eye glasses, her dark hair in two ponytails. "You are my big brother, right?" Sawyer said instead. "Yes. That is correct. Do you need help with something?" "Can you give me some cash?" Sawyer asked straightforwardly. "Sure, but what do you need money for?" Zack asked, reaching inside his suit pocket for his wallet. "Just some girl stuff I need to buy," Sawyer shrugged. Zack took out his wallet and went through it, only to see that there wasn't much cash. He took out a few bills and extended them towards his sister, then looked at her suspicious, gleaming eyes as she held the money. "Don't you, like anyone else, get a credit card and a monthly allowance?" Zack refused to let go of the money as Sawyer tugged at it. "Wow!" Sawyer gasped. "I can't believe I am receiving the first gift from my older brother in years," Sawyer said, making cute puppy eyes. "Thank you brother," she said with a huge smile, and Zack let go of the money feeling guilty. "I will make good use of the money," Sawyer winked at her brother, safely hiding her money in her front shirt pocket. "Sawyer! What do you think you are doing disturbing your brother this early morning?" Marissa's voice came from behind and Sawyer's eyes widened. She quickly put her finger against her lips, gesturing for her brother to keep it a secret, her eyes pleading with him, but when she turned around, her whole attitude changed. "Come on mom, I can't even say hi to my big brother?" Sawyer raises her arms in disbelief while walking away. "Better get back to preparing for school young lady," Marissa stated. "On it!" Marissa turned towards Zack and let out a sigh. "Your sister can be a handful sometimes. She is the total opposite of you." "I guess she grew up quickly," Zack stated. "With an attitude at that," Marissa shook her head before taking a good look at her son. "Let me help you with that," Marissa walked in and took hold of his neck tie, securing it carefully. "Now this reminds me of when you first started working at the company. It feels like such a long time ago," Marissa said, reminiscing over the past. "It was," Zack agreed. "You must be happy now that I am finally back," he added softly. Marissa's eyes teared up. "I know it must be suffocating the way I treat you sometimes. I just can't help but see your father in you sometimes," she patted him on the shoulder as she finished adjusting his tie. She then took a step back to appreciate her work. "I hope he is at least happy where he is now." "He has to be," Zack said firmly, thinking about the way his father led his life. "I wonder if he ever..." "Uhm, excuse me," Sawyer poked her head inside the room. "Grandma is waiting for everyone at the table to have breakfast, but it looks like you are having a deep moment and I would love to join but I am starving," Sawyer said in one breath dramatically and then disappeared. "Oh god. This girl," Marissa said, wiping her eyes while Zack let out a chuckle, finding his sister's antiques funny. * At the table this time, the arrangement was a bit different with Chris included. While grandma sat at the head of the table, on her right was uncle Elliot dressed in formal wear, which consisted of a blue dress shirt with a red neck tie and brown slacks. Next to him was his son, Chris, Irene, then Mckenzie, who was dressed up for college and finally Levi, who wore the same uniform type as Sawyer. On the left was Zack, Marissa and then Sawyer, who sat there quietly having her breakfast. The table was quiet until Levi and Sawyer finished their food. Erin and Sawyer were the first to finish. They kissed their grandma on the cheek, who smiled cheerfully at them as they waved bye to everyone, picked up their backpacks and started going on their way. Levi's phone rang, and he stopped to take a look. "Come on Lev. You don't have to pick it up when you are going to see her soon anyway. I am going to be late for art class," Sawyer whined. "Don't act like you know me again when we come across in the hallways," Levi said to Sawyer as he put his phone back in his pocket. "Be nice to your cousin Lev," Irene warned her son. "Yeah, sure. Bye." Levi said and soon, the two were gone. "I guess it's my turn to leave now," Uncle Elliot said, standing up. "I will go get your white coat and briefcase," Irene stood up and followed after him. The dining hall was quiet after that, with everyone else turning their leftover breakfast around on the plate. "I will go take care of some things," Marissa said as she stood up and left. Now it was the three of them left, grandma, Chris and Zack. "You do know that you are starting all over again from scratch, right?" Grandma said, looking at Zack, and he nodded in response. "You should know that after what happened last time, you can't have the same privileges as before, so I will expect you, work your hardest to find your place." "Grandma, after waiting tables for too long, I'm not sure Zack still remembers how to use a computer. You will have to grab his hand and show him the way," Chris chuckled at his own joke. "I expect that you treat your cousin better than this," Grandma reprimanded him. "And I want you to help Zack whenever he needs it. I can't do that since I don't have that kind of strength anymore," grandma said, grabbing her walking stick and standing up. "I will see you two at the meeting. Zack, you will carpool with Chris and ask him if you need anything else." With that, grandma turned and left, leaving the two behind. Chris took something out from the pocket of his tan suit and threw it towards Zack, who caught it effortlessly. "I hope you ride safely. And don't be late on your first day," Chris whistled as he walked out of the dining hall. Zack took his phone out and right on time, a message came. After some minutes, Chris arrived at the company feeling happy with his own idea of a prank. Just as Chris was handing his keys to the valet, he heard a car stop behind, and he turned around to find Zack coming out of a taxi.Zack's POVI stood in front of the huge building, different emotions going through me.I remembered the time I came here as an intern, full of dreams and hopes and how diligently I worked, while making up my mind about the accomplishments I would strive for once I became a full-time employee. Then, of the time I came here fresh off after graduation in a suit and tie with well polished leather shoes and a briefcase. But now I stand in front of this building once again, and I am not sure what I want anymore. How has this place been after all these years? Is it right to come here at all?Chris turned to look at me with a smirk that expressed his calmness at the whole situation, making me realize that I was now the stranger here."Goodluck at the meeting Bro," Chris said with a salute before turning and sauntering into the building as if it was his home, most of the workers greeting him with a familiar smile as he passed by them, and he answered each one of them while acknowledging them.
"Hello, Zack. Long time no see."Mr. Walker, a man in his early sixties, looking immaculate in his striped suit, his grey-tinged hair stylishly pushed back, walked in, then looked around at the tiny storage that was supposed to be Zack's office."As if finding you wasn't hard enough, I come to this," Mr. Walker said, looking at Zack."What do I say? Welcome to my humble office," Zack said plainly."Humble would be a compliment," Mr. Walker grimaced. "Even though you are starting from scratch, I must say that this place is kind of far-fetched. Does someone have a grudge against you or something?""Please state your business here. As you can see, I have a lot going on for me right now.""Ouch!" Mr. Walker faked offense. "Given our history, you must not be happy to see me here. But as someone who has been your mentor for years and only wishes the best for you, I must say that this is an embarrassment. But I guess you can't be lucky twice.""I doubt. You must be happy to see me like this.
As the meeting went on, Zack listened attentively to what everyone had to say, mentally making notes. Everyone, including Chris, had a thing or two to say, and after an hour and a half, the meeting was finally concluded."Now before we go," Mrs. Vaughn brought everyone's attention to the sore topic once again. "As some of you here know, Zack once worked here, and he had such great potential, and that is why I didn't hesitate to bring him back. But the consequence of his past decision is that he only gets to start all over again. His presence here is merely formalities to introduce him back here. Some of you here have worked with him, and some of you have heard of him, I am sure. So what do you think about this old woman's decision?" Mrs. Vaughn said authoratively, although her last question made it sound like she was asking for their suggestion. The room was quiet for a second, with everyone processing her words and unsure how to attempt to answer her tricky question."How could we po
With John now gone, Zack finally settled down in his new, spacious and well-furnished office, with the windows overlooking the busy city. Not only were the computers and furniture latest, but the office even had a fridge containing all sorts of drinks, a coffee machine and then a snacks cabinet.Zack had just sat in his comfy chair when a knock came on the door, and he gave permission for the person to enter. The door opened and a young man walked in, seemingly in his early twenties, and he had a goofy smile on as he awkwardly walked towards Zack."And who might you be?" At the office, Kimberly stared into space, her eyes bloodshot and barely blinking."Excuse me. Hey. Miss Wells? Are you alright? Boss," Noah called out to her, but even her favorite title was not enough to bring her out of her thoughts, until Noah banged on her desk and she almost jumped out of her seat, startled.Kimberly blinked before looking at Noah who was looking at her, concern clearly written on his face."Are you okay boss?" Noah asked once again."Oh yeah. I'm fine. Totally. Why do you ask?" Kimberly asked, staring at him."It's just that, I have been calling out to you for some time now. You look like you haven't slept a wink for the past week," Noah commented, and true to his word, Kimberly did look a bit disheveled. She no longer looked as neat as she used to be when she first became a manager."Oh, I've just been really busy is all," Kim shrugged it off. "I'm the boss here, and we've already sent our proposal to the best company out there. I'm just hoping they respond to
Rose's POVI woke up to the feel of fingers slowly running up and down my bare back. The light strokes sent chills down my spine and I could feel a hot breath over my spine. My head buried deep in my pillows, I didn't need to open my eyes to know who it was. It was none other than the guy I picked up last night."I know you are awake babe," he said in an alluring voice, which was followed by a hot breath fanning my ear. I raised my head and opened my eyes slowly, only to be greeted by the streaks of sunlight filling my room, making my head throb, and I shut them close as I sat up and rubbed my head with two fingers while I used the other hand to pull the sheets to my body, covering myself. The guy, whatever his name was, spoke again, bringing me back to the reality of my decision last night, which was a result of taking a few drinks."Good morning babe," he purred into my ears, and I could tell by his freshly sprayed cologne and minty breath that he was trying too hard. "Ready to go d
Third person POVZack placed his long legs on the coffee table, one on top of the other, as he pressed his phone. As Zack surfed through the internet reading the news about the market and stocks, mindlessly looking at what he deemed important to his person and scrolling over what he didn't need to concern himself about, especially gossip, one would easily mistake him for the owner of the fancy restaurant he was in and the staff room to be his personal office if not for the waiter's uniform that betrayed him.The uniform consisted of a white dress shirt, a black bow and black slacks. With his tall legs, slim waist, broad chest and styled but messy dark hair, one could mistake him for a model.Zack checked the time, and it was 6:50pm at the moment, meaning his break would end in about ten minutes. In two hours, he would be heading home after an eight-hour shift that started at 1pm. Zack checked the date on his phone and he let out a deep breath. Tomorrow would be his third anniversary w

"Hahaha," I found myself laughing instead saying a direct answer. It's not like I had a good answer for her anyway, at least not the answer she would like to hear. "Erin, why are you getting so emotional on such a good day?" I said squeezing her hands and Erin looked at me with a smile and so much hope in her eyes that I wanted to look away. "Come on, let's do our best today. And after work, we can go out like you wanted. My treat."Erin's smile faltered a bit but she nodded anyways. "Okay. I get to choose where we go to.""Sure. Let's get back to work," I said opening the door and we both got out together."You know what?" I said, turning to look at Erin. "I think I need to go to the bathroom real quick. Kimberly's POV I gulped the rest of my coffee down, setting the cup by the side before staring at my screen in a blank manner, not sure where to start my work from. "Hey Kim," Erin called out my name and I looked up to find her standing over me with a concerned expression. "What's up with you? Everyone is happy after holiday but you look kind of cranky right now," Erin commented and I sighed. "My sister Em moved in with me, but since she is in her finals, she is being more of a leech. Taking some of my stuff and then coming back home late at night. It seems like she's in a new relationship and not concentrating on her finals which is kind of stressing me out as the older sister," I vented. "Ooh. Must have been hard. Your space is already small as it is. How's your father doing by the way?" Erin sympathized. "Well, he's seen better days," I shrugged it off as if it was nothing although it bugs me every now and then. "But what happened to your sister's boyfriend? I thought she liv
