Third Person POV
Knowing she would be there all by herself, and feeling not the need to knock, he opened the door and let himself in, closing the door softly behind him. Rose stood in front of the ceiling to floor windows, gazing down at the busy city which was shrouded in the midst of the night of the sky, yet illuminated by the the lights from the buildings and from the street lamps. On her large mahogany desk which was at least three decades old, he could see an envelope beside a letter and he knew right who the sender of that letter would be and how it always affected Rose. Her arms folded against her torso, and her hair now let down, she seemed to be loss in thoughts as she gazed through the window, barely making one thing from the other amidst the tall skyscrapers and the cars brimming at the traffic. He walked up to her, and with her back to his, he wound his arms around her waist, rested his head on her shoulder and sniffed in her scent. "You did well Rose, tonight was amazing," he told her in a soft voice. "You think so?" Rose let out. "Of course. I couldn't take my eyes off you. You were..." "Cut it off Cade," Rose removed his arms from around her, shrugging him off of her. "I know I am not there just yet. I need to work harder, I need to do more. I work my ass off every time, and yet it feels like..." "Rose! For how much longer are you going to let his words get into you? It's been years since he got locked away in prison, and he isn't getting out anytime soon," Cade told her, then added in a gentle tone. "Why don't you give yourself a rest Rose? And why don't you let me comfort you?" "Comfort? Huh!" Rose snorted. "Cade. When are you going to..." "Give up. I know," Cade sighed dejectedly, as he ran his hand through his hair. "Like a fool, I keep thinking that I will have a chance." "You are so stuck in the past that you fail to realize how much has changed," Rose turned her back to him as she continued. "If you don't open your eyes, you will look back one day and you will realize that what you needed was right in front of you." "Now you sound like an old woman," Cade let out. "Well it's no wonder. I was raised by old people," Rose chuckled. "But jokes aside, when are you going to do about her feelings for you. It is such a thorn on my side seeing such a perfect couple wasting away." Rose tsked. "Yet, I can't stop the feeling of guilt because a certain someone decided to keep something that wasn't hers," Cade said, his voice exuding sarcasm. "But good call. What a way to reject someone," he rolled his eyes playfully. "It's one of the many things I'm good at," Rose smirked, moving to sit on her chair. "What is it about this time?" Cade referred to the letter sitting on her desk. "He keeps taunting me, and even today's success isn't enough to keep him at bay." "What if there's still some of his people here?" Cade asked, getting serious. "Wouldn't matter if there is and I doubt there is. There isn't much he can do to return the favor while he is locked up," Rose said nonchalantly, but the slight crease in her brows suggested otherwise. "Speaking of, there is someone I need you to look into for me. I told Alice to do it, but she is too much of a goody shoes." "Wouldn't her to get her hands dirty anyway. Who is it anyway? Someone you want to bring an end to?" "Nope, just some lowlife who have never had a taste of luck. There is someone in the technology department that I was going to promote, but some brats by the names of Kim and Erin are against it." "You want to find some dirt on them?" Cade quirked up an eyebrow. "I'm still not sure. I will have to think about it. Same with how to respond to this one." * The car slowly came to a stop at the parking lot, Cade went for his door handle, about to open it, when Rose beat him to it and opened her door by herself. "No need for that. Goodnight Cade," Rose said as she opened the door, letting herself out of the car and closing the door. She stood by the side and waved, gesturing for him to leave. Cade nodded his head and in a few seconds the car rolled away, leaving Rose in the empty lot. Heading towards the elevator, Rose headed up to her floor, going straight for her condo. Opening the door, she was welcomed with the sweet scent of a delicious dinner, making her stomach rumble. "Welcome back Ma'am," Miss Adams greeted her. "How was work today?" "Same as always. Thank you for your hardwork." "You are welcome miss. Do you want to eat dinner now?" "Sure. I will get changed first," Rose replied, heading towards her room. "Of course ma'am. I will set things up." * Inside her walk in closet, Rose kicked off her heels before wiping off her make up and taking off her jewelry and changing into cotton pyjamas which consisted of a relaxed fit shirt with short sleeves and knee length short. She was about to exit the space when her eyes landed on a pink ballerina box sitting on a top shelf. She walked over and took out the box, using her fingers to trace the intricate pattern on it, before moving to open the box. She ran her hands through the contents which consisted among other some old photographs. Pictures taken a long time ago. Happy moments with her grandparents, holiday pictures, pictures of her from a toddler up through her teenage years until her high school graduation and then, the last one, of her mother. The rest were some letters, trinkets and jewelry, before her hands settled on a particular sapphire necklace. Cade's earlier words came to mind, but deciding not to dwell on it, Rose closed the box and put it back in place, exiting her room and going to the kitchen where Miss Adams had laid out her food. "Enjoy your food miss. And if there is anything else you need..." "There's no need. And you should take the rest of the week off." "Really? Thanks you. I should spend some quality time with my family," Miss Adams couldn't hide her glee. "But what about you miss? Will you be fine by yourself?" "Why not? I have been by myself for a very long time," Rose said cheekily, her eyes expressing her disdain. "Oh, I am sorry, I didn't mean it that way," Miss Adams fumbled. "Good night Georgia," Rose said before digging into her food, completely ignoring the woman's presence. "Uhm, good night miss," Miss Adams said before she turned and left the kitchen. A few minutes later, the door opened and shut down, leaving Rose in silence, only the clinking of her cutlery against the plate the only sound feeling the space.Chris' POVI watched as Zack said goodbye to the two of us before leaving happily. What is so interesting about the envelope that made him excited? I should have taken a look at it. Knowing Zack, he isn't one to get happy so easily.Either way, it's none of my business. I've had enough entertainment for the night, so I should leave and attend to my business. As I turned to leave, a hand grabbed me by the shoulder, and I turned to find Mr. Alfred watching me with squinted eyes. All manner of familiarity and kindness that he had when speaking with Zack now gone, replaced by suspicious eyes staring down at me. It was as if he finally found the thief stealing from his pot of joy."What the...""Why is it that whenever you are around, some sort of trouble happens around Zack? Last time you were around, your customer found it convenient to spill their food right by the table just as Zack was passing by." he interrupted me before I could finish my sentence."What do you mean by that?" I shru
Chris' POV"What do you mean he is back? He just got off work earlier?""Wait, do you still hang around him knowing he is your competition? Dammit," mother gritted her teeth."Well, someone needed to show him his place from time to time. Still I can't believe he found his way back. And how did grandma forgive him so easily? How could she let him back in after he left on his own terms?" I said sitting up on the bed and mother walked over to sit beside me."She didn't just forgive him. She brought him back herself. And I think she plans to put him back to work soon."I didn't notice anything different about Zack earlier. Did he make a fool of me, knowing he would be coming back here? No he can't possibly have known. That fool is easy to read. Then grandma must have done things on her own."How could she stab me in the back like that when I've been working my ass off these past years to please her? Look at me. I'm almost thirty and I don't even have a proper girlfriend.""She knows she'
Third person POVAlice appeared in front of Rose's place dressed up a white summer dress to go with pink loafers, a pink Terry wave bucket hat and a pink purse.Without wasting time to knock, Alice input the code and entered the place, going straight to Rose's bedroom, expecting to find Rose deep in sleep only to find her sitting on her bed with one knee propped up and watching the view of the city her ceiling to floor window provided."Rose, I've been calling you on the phone. Why weren't you picking? And why do you look like your puppy died?" Alice asked, concerned."Do you think I should get a puppy?" Rose said, not bothering to turn away from the window. "Or maybe a cat? What brings you so early in the morning anyway?""I completely forgot to tell you yesterday," Alice brought out the tickets from her purse and handed them to Rose who turned to look at her for the first time since she came into the room."You going to a party?" Rose said before looking at the tickets and her eyebr
Alice's POVAs soon as I walked away so as not to be a third wheel, I found myself aimlessly roaming around the deck of the ship. There were lots of people around, mostly in groups of twos and above enjoying themselves as they talked and drank while some cozied up to each other, making the environment look lively, yet I felt lonely.Just 10 minutes away from my friend and I feel lonely. I really need to do something about this. Else I will end up having the most boring vacation. The night breeze blew on my exposed skin, making me shiver from it's cold, so I decided to go back to the room and get a shawl at least. The stairs that would lead to the rooms were on the other side, and in that moment that I made that decision, I turned to that direction and suddenly bumped hard into someone. The heel of my shoe turned making me lose my footing and almost giving into gravity.Luckily, whoever the gentleman was caught me before I fell on her butt and made a complete embarrassment out of mysel
"Hey, why don't you let go of this lady right here," Zack cut straight to the chase. "It doesn't look like she wants to be in your company right now. Right?" Zack looked at Rose, waiting for her to say something, but she just looked at him weirdly."Huh," Jacob snorted. "And who are you?" he said voicing out his hostility, his face no longer expressing kindness. "I believe this is none of your business. So why don't you mind your business and just let us be? The lady and I are just having a date."Zack looked at Jacob who didn't seem ready to let go, then at Rose who now had a smirk on her face, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Just watching the show that was no longer about her and waiting to see how it will unfold.'You chose to interfere. Let's see how you go through with it'. Her eyes spoke."Come on man, let's not do this," Zack placed his hand on the man's shoulder before leaning right next to his ear and whispering. "I saw when and what you slipped into that drink. If I'm lyin
Third person point of viewThe following morning, Rose slowly started to wake up. Her eyes still closed, memories of the previous night flooded into her head, making her smile, and for the first time in her life, Rose found herself extending her hand, trying to reach the person that would be lying next to her, thinking of all the things she would like to do to them."Rose? Are you alright?" A voice called out her name. But it wasn't the voice she was expecting, making her frown. "Rose are you still sleeping? Wake up."Rose felt herself being shaken awake by delicate hands, and she quickly opened her eyes confused, and when she found Alice looking at her with worried eyes, she looked around the room once again.Still confused, Rose raised the sheets and peeked in only to find herself fully dress as she was the other night. The realization that part of the 'supposed memories' were her imagination and likely 'dream' made her feel disappointed in herself."I didn't know you could move lik
Third person POV.As the two had breakfast and on their way to the duty free shopping on jewelry, clothing and souvenirs, Rose kept looking around hoping she would catch a glimpse of him amongst the people that were passing by them."What do you think of this one?" Alice appeared in front of her, distracting her from her thoughts.Rose was seated on a bench at the back of the clothing store where the dressing rooms were located. She looked at Alice who was now wearing a t-shirt with 'I've discovered a new me' written on the it, paired with a black flowy skirt, a black tote bag slung on her shoulder."The skirt looks nice, but the shirt is a bit cringe," Rose commented on the outfit."I totally like it because of the writing. I'm going to get this," Alice decided, tracing the pattern on her new shirt. "What about you?" she looked at Rose. "You should get something for yourself. How about a new hat?" she suggested."Nah, I think I will prefer some jewelry. Probably a bracelet," Rose sto
12 years ago.Third person POVIt was a hot summer afternoon and Rose had just come out of the school counselor's office when she decided to get a drink from the school cafe. The past few days weren't easy for her as she was currently working on what courses she should add and what activities would add more to her portfolio.Rose entered the not so busy café wearing a floral summer dress with sunglasses and a summer hat before settling on a chair and that was when the waitress came in in a simple shirt and jeans.Rose had been noticing her for the past few weeks. It wasn't just the girl's beauty or her radiant smile that caught Rose's attention. It was her air of confidence with a layer of innocence and her ability to lit up a room and bring it out of boredom which was what Rose needed in her life at the moment.Alice was a popular girl in the college and not because she was rich or the smartest. No, she was the kind of person who made everyone feel comfortable around her. When Rose e
Rose was discussing with Mr. Durant when she raised her head and spotted Zack coming towards her. A smile spread across her lips effortlessly. Zack joined her, standing by her side and Rose immediately linked her arms with his as they continued to talk to Mr. Durant. The night went on, and after a lot of music, food and socializing, it was finally time to go back home and call it a night. "You should come to my place with me. "We should have a few things to discuss between us," Rose suggested to Zack as they got out of the ballroom. "Sure," Zack agreed. "Where should we head to now? Should I drop him off first?" Cade said as Zack and Rose entered the back of the limo. "No. Drop us off at my place," Rose answered. "Yes ma'am," Cade replied, throwing a glance at Zack just as the screen rolled up, making a screen for them. "I could have sworn he glared at me," Zack joked in amusement. "Cade doesn't like the idea of me going home with other guys," Rose laughed. Thinking about how
Rose closed her lipstick and put it back in her purse before turning to face Madeline who had walked up to her. "Long time no see Rose. Who knew we would meet again after so long? You are happy to see me, right?" Madeline smiled brightly. "Depends on your intentions entirely," Rose titled her head to the side. "It's certainly been a long time Madeline. Eleven years if I am correct?" "Eleven years sound like such a long time, but it feels just like yesterday when we clung to each other's arms as we dominated the hallways of our high school," Madeline laughed. "You still think of those times, right? I hear your grandparents passed away not long after we graduated. Are you okay? Must have been devastating. Not having any one of us be there for you. And especially not long after Damian broke your heart," Madeline chuckled. "It was a rough time to go by. But I am more than glad I didn't have any of your fake asses with me. But as you can see, I am doing just fine now. Thank you for
2 weeks laterThird person POVThe ballroom was a majestic space with a high, ornate ceiling and crystal chandeliers that seemed to be made out of jewels. The walls, adorned by tall windows that were draped by opulent curtains, and the floor, a sea of polished marble, reflected the extravagance of the evening. The air was alive with the sweet scent of perfumes, wine and flowers, the soft strains of music coming from the piano, and the hum of conversation, as influential businessmen and business women, wealthy entrepreneurs, and high-society individuals mingled and laughed, their designer gowns, jewels, suits and tuxes spoke volumes of the importance of that night. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the excitement of deals being made, connections being forged, and the thrill of being among the elite.Outside, the evening atmosphere was alive with the flash of cameras from the paparazzi and influencers, all trying their best to take the perfect shot of the rich and famous as they
Emilia's POVI flipped through the never ending pages, my chest feeling heavy and my frustration increasing with each passing second.I looked up and around the almost empty library. It was almost midnight, so it made sense that that there will be less people right now. Or that was the lie I kept telling myself, when in reality, the reason why the library is more empty than it should be, is because most of my mates have graduated.Only six months ago, I had so much hope I felt like I could shit rainbows. But now I am stuck in this stupid dingy place.Knowing that flipping the page won't get the words into my head, I stood from the chair as I decided to call it quits for the night. The next bar exams in in two weeks luckily, and I plan to pass this time.Trudging my way out, I came out of the library and stood still by the road, looking at the night sky, I realized how late it was.I brought out my phone and scrolled through the contacts before stopping at his name.I pressed dial and
Alice looked around the entrance of the amusement park and immediately spotted Chris' back and blonde hair. She snuck up on him and right when she was about to poke him, Chris turned around and she poked his chest instead.Chris looked at her hand poking his chest and then looked at her with his eyebrows raised. Realizing what had just happened, Alice pulled her finger away and closed her mouth with her hands, her eyes widened."Just how much cuter can you get," Chris wrapped his arms around her as he chuckled."I wanted to surprise you," Alice let out disappointedly."I promise you did," Chris told her. "Good thing you dressed warmly," Chris adjusted the scarf around her neck. "The night air might get chilly on those rides. That is if you don't get spooked out first.""Oh please!" Alice rolled her eyes."I've gotten our tickets. Let's go in now.""The first to scream on the wheel buy all the snacks!" Alice said and the two walked in hand in hand through the gates of the amusement par
Third person POV6 months laterIn their vast mansion, the dinner room, might as well be the only time this rich family have a good reason to have to have to meet and face each other. It was silent, save for the clinking of cutlery against ceramic plates, the occasional order to the maids to bring or take a way a thing or the other or the sound of food being eaten. The usual sitting was in order, but the silent animosity between them was unparalleled."Grandma," Marissa spoke up. "Although it's only been six months since Zack started working with you at the company, don't you think he is doing really well?""Uhmmm," Grandma nodded as she continued to eat.Marissa looked at Irene with a taunting face, a smirk on her face but was surprised to find that the latter also had a similar expression on."Grandma, you must have heard about the famous Craig Wallstreet, right?" Irene continued without waiting for Grandma to respond. "Chris, through his persistence and flexibility was able to secu
Alice's POVWho knew that after what felt like a long time I would be meeting him again? And here of all places?Chris was dressed in his white tennis attire, his right wrist had a red band and his left hand held his racket. On the side, the umpire introduced us the players and went ahead to announce the rules of the final match where the winner will take the trophy.I on the other hand, stared at Chris. Did he even recognize me at all? Would he be glad to see me again? As if he knew what was going on inside my head, Chris raised his racket and pointed it towards the trophy which was seated on a table near the umpire, patiently waiting to be taken by the winner. When my eyes followed his direction and saw the trophy, Chris used his racket once again and pointed to himself.I snorted at the action. This is going to be challenging. The umpire announced Chris as the person who won the coin toss, but instead of serving first as usual, Chris picked me to serve first instead."So you want t
Alice's POVFinally, it was the weekend and get to enjoy myself, but first I will have to do some chores.Looking at my messy room, I started by picking up the clothes on the floor. After loading them into washing machine, I put my shoes and bags back into their places, after which I changed my sheets and rearranged my stuff on the vanity and my room was back to looking good.I went to kitchen and had breakfast before starting to plan my day.First of all, I will visit the cemetery, go to the tennis court after which I will eat out and probably do some shopping then come back home.I showered and put on a pink shirt with blue denim skirt then a pair of white converse and black sling purse before carrying my duffle bag and going out in my car.I stopped at the nearest flower shop first and bouquet of white lillies before traveling to the cemetery which was an hour's trip.As I walked through the entrance of the cemetery, the scent of tall green grass and blooming flowers filled the air
Third person POVKimberly walked out of her room tying her hair up with a ribbon. She was dressed in a simple flow dressed topped with a jeans jacket with a brown purse slung across her shoulder that matched her brown sandals."Kim, where are you going at this time of night?" Emilia who was watching TV asked as she picked up her phone and checked the time. "It's 7:30pm. Last I checked work closed way before.""Shut up," Kimberly hissed before walking over to the fridge. She opened it took out a bottle of water. She gulped down some before turning to Emilia who was looking at her with mischief."Don't tell me you are going on a date?""And so what if I am?""So it's true then? Must be a good guy if you suddenly stopped being a nerd.""Whatever. Just don't forget to clean up," Kimberly said as she to the door and opened it. "And don't forget to turn off the TV before falling asleep like last time.""Yeah yeah. Enjoy your date," Emilia turned her attention back to the TV as Kimberly went
