CHAPTER FIFTY NINE

SALLY

I scoffed. I couldn't believe that Alex wanted for me to leave so he could bring in Beverly.

Was this their plans all along?

He didn't even wait for a week. He brought her in the very moment I left. Am I really that unimportant to him?

I stared at the picture for a while longer. My knees grew weak immediately, and I lost my appetite.

The people in the restaurant didn't stop talking about me and Alex.

"She looks pregnant," one of them said. "He wouldn't bring in a pregnant mistress if she isn't carrying his child."

"I want to go home," I told James.

Coming here was a bad idea. I shouldn't have agreed to eat out with Alex. I wished that I saw it coming.

"Please," I stressed as I stared into James's eyes.

He was just staring at me without saying a word. He opened his mouth and shut it again.

"Can we?" I insisted.

"Of course," he stood up, and we walked out of the restaurant together.
