Lucas was already having second thoughts as he drove through the gate to his grandmother's villa, he was about to make a turn and drive out when his thoughts drifted to what had happened earlier in his office.
He was in his office waiting for his assistant Jacob to come in with the status of their proposal to a client when he suddenly rushed in.
"Sir an invitation came for you," Jacob said suddenly trying to catch his breath.
Lucas already knew it was his grandma who sent the invitation, he had been expecting one, and it always came at this time of the year. But this year was no different, he wasn't going anywhere.
"Toss it in the trash," Lucas said to Jacob not even sparing the invitation a glance.
"Sir, please take a look at it. It's different," Jacob responded, fear evident on his face.
Jacob knew how much his boss hated it when he was told what to do, he would have gone ahead and tossed it in the trash if not for the call he had received that told him to make sure that Lucas read the invitation if he wanted to keep his job.
Lucas raised an eyebrow at Jacob's response, and he knew that something was up.
Jacob was about to hand him the invitation when Lucas thought to ask.
"Did my grandma call you?" Lucas asked Jacob who froze on the spot at the question.
"Yes sir," Jacob said, sighing as he placed the invitation in Lucas's hands.
"That's strike two," Lucas replied calmly.
Jacob felt all emotions drain from his face when Lucas replied. He didn't understand what he had done, all he did was obey his boss's grandma.
"I own this company and not my grandma, I am your boss, you need to get your priorities straight if you want to work with me. One more strike and you're fired," Lucas said, with no expression on his face.
"Clear my schedule for the day," Lucas said to his assistant Jacob who was leaving his office with slumped shoulders.
Lucas stared at the invitation for thirty minutes straight trying to figure out what could be so special that his grandmother decided to call his assistant because he had ignored all other invitations and she had never called before.
He gave up and was about to toss it into the trash when the seal broke and something dropped from it onto his desk. Lucas immediately recognized the rings. It was his parents' ring and attached to it, was a note from his grandma telling him to come home.
If there was one thing Lucas knew about his grandma, it was that she always got what she wanted. She knew that an ordinary invitation would not make him come back so she had put his parent's rings to make him come home.
Lucas saw his past flash through his eyes as he stepped into the villa. The last time he was here was five years ago, two years after Mia disappeared.
He was about to go up the stairs when the butler, William appeared out of nowhere.
"Welcome home Master Anderson, Madam is waiting at the other side of the villa," William said, stretching out his hands to collect his coat.
Lucas handed William his coat and continued up the stairs. When he reached the top of the stairs, he saw a portrait of his family, they were all smiling, his grandparents with his parents. His grandpa died before he was born and his parents died when he was seven.
Lucas couldn't remember the last time he saw his grandma smile like that, sometimes he felt she blamed him for their deaths.
He was still gazing at the portrait when he heard his grandmother's voice "I see you got my letter."
Lucas turned to the source of the voice and saw his grandma walking steadily towards him.
"Good times there," Lucas's grandma, Darcy said, gesturing to the painting.
"Happy Birthday Grandma," Lucas said when she was near him.
"Thank you, son," she replied, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Come on, we've all been waiting for you," Darcy said to Lucas, guiding him to the other side of the villa.
Lucas wanted to ask what she meant by we but he followed her nonetheless. It wasn't long enough before he knew what she meant. She had invited everyone that he was close to. They were all sitting around a large table that looked like a conference table. It was as if they were here for a meeting and not a birthday dinner.
He looked at his grandma for an explanation but she was already sitting and she gestured for him to come sit. Lucas walked over to his seat wondering what his grandmother had planned.
Almost immediately his grandmother, Darcy clinked her glass of wine.
"Everyone, I have an important announcement to make," Darcy said.
"My grandson, Lucas, will be getting married to Carla Giovanni in the next six months," she said, looking over at Lucas with a smile.
Lucas felt his world stop, there was no way his grandma would do that to him, she knew how much he hated Carla for causing Mia's disappearance. She knew how miserable he was, there was no way she had arranged a marriage between him and Carla.
"No, I would never do that," Lucas said to his grandma as he looked over at Carla who had a frown etched on her face because of his reply.
"Mia is long dead, why can't you marry me?" Carla said, pouting.
"It's simple, I can never love you" Lucas declared causing Carla to bawl
"You either marry Carla or I will withdraw the rights given to you to run the company…or I might as well sell it," Darcy said
Lucas noticed how Carla's bawling stopped immediately after his grandmother said that. He shaked his head wondering just how much she had manipulated his grandmother to do her bidding. He had to think of a way to get himself out of this mess so he said the next thing that came to his mind.
"I am already married. Please stop trying to match me and Carla, I love my wife." Lucas said, causing everyone, including his grandma to gasp. That would keep them off his case for a while.
"Also you can't keep threatening me with the company, you are just the founder, the company is mine," Lucas responded as he stood up.
"Happy Birthday Grandma," Lucas said, kissing her cheek. "Thank you for the rings, they would fit my wife and me perfectly," Lucas whispered loud enough for Carla to hear.
Lucas stood tall, his shoulders hunched with a stoic expression on his face, concealing the emotions within him. He was puzzled, even a little child could see through his lie because he had not even been in a proper relationship since Mia left.
He took one last look at his grandma who was still in wonder from what he said. He glanced at Carla expecting the same kind of reaction but she had a smirk on her face with a sly glint in her eye.
Lucas knew immediately that she had seen through his lie. "I will bring her over for dinner on Sunday, so till then," Lucas said calmly as he stared down at Carla to deter any plans she had in her mind.
Carla's face had fear written over it. She knew Lucas was lying but she did not expect him to bring her over for dinner. Lucas knew he had to do something fast. It was only a matter of time before she found evidence. She was a Giovanni after all.
As he left the room, Lucas couldn't help but think that he had walked into a trap, he didn't want to marry Carla so he lied about being married but he didn't have a wife heck he didn't even have a girlfriend.
How was he going to find a wife? Lucas thought hard as he drove out of the villa.
It was almost Sunday and Lucas still didn't know what to do. He had promised his grandma that he was going to bring his wife to dinner but he needed to find a wife first. The truth was that he could get any woman he wanted in the country, after all, he was Lucas Anderson, the most eligible bachelor in the country. If he wasn't so hung up on Mia this would be an easy feat for him.Suddenly he hoped that Mia would appear out of nowhere so he would propose out of nowhere and they would get married.Lucas could still remember the first time he saw Mia as he stared down at the streets through the tall window in his office with a hot cup of coffee, black as he liked it.He was at a charity event organized by Mr.Giovanni, he didn't want to come but his grandmother told him that Mr.Giovanni had asked for him so he decided against itBack then, he had liked Carla and her father a little. "Sorry, I didn't see you coming," Lucas said, apologizing to the girl he bumped into on purpose. He was tr
"Mum I'm about to leave, wish me luck," Emma said to her mother who was on the other end of the line."Sweetie, you don't have to do this for us, I know how much you hate him, we would manage," her mother, Gracie answered back. Emma knew her mum was worried because she knew what she went through years ago."Don't worry mum, I would be fine, there is no way he would be able to recognize me, I am putting on contacts," Emma told her mum to ease her concern. Emma was wearing contacts, she didn't want Lucas to ever find out that she was Mia, she wouldn't have applied if it wasn't her last resort. She wanted nothing to do with him, but she needed money and a stable job."Good luck sweetie," her mother, Gracie answered back. Emma could also hear her mother whisper something to her six-year-old son Jason.Almost immediately Jason called out to her, "Good luck Aunt Emma I love you," he said in his tiny voice.Emma couldn't explain the pain she felt when she heard Jason refer to her as Aunt. S
“Do you think she's going to come?” Lucas asked Austin over the phone as his thoughts trailed off to the last conversation he had with Emma Smith.Austin smirked as he listened to his friend, “Let me guess, you told her outright to marry you.”“Yes, exactly, and I offered to pay her ten times her salary if she agreed to the offer,” Lucas replied.“And you expect her to agree instantly, you must have scared the poor lady out of her wits. You could have at least taken it slow with her,” Austin answered back.“Well, I didn't think it would take her this long to make a decision, and I don't think anyone would refuse to marry me,” Lucas replied before picking his keys from the counter table.Lucas headed to the garage, he wanted to drive his Bentley but decided against it for some reason and drove his motorbike instead.“Lucas, Lucas, can you hear me?” Austin called out, bringing him back to reality.“What are you going to do if Emma refuses your proposal?”“No way that is going to happen,
“Errr…Excuse me…” the make-up artist said to Emma pulling her from her daydream.“You look so beautiful,” She announced, giving her chair a swirl so she was face-to-face with Lucas.“What do you think?” She asked Lucas.“It's okay,” Lucas replied, not missing a beat, his face as stoic as ever.“Just okay…, I guess” the make-up artist mumbled.Emma stared into the eyes of the man that she was going to be getting married to in a few hours. Her thoughts and emotions were all over the place. Never in her life did she ever imagine that this day would come.“How did she even get here,” Emma pondered.Earlier that day…Emma was applying moisturizer when her phone popped up revealing a message from an unknown number. She read through the message and she knew who exactly sent it. It was her boss, Lucas Anderson.“Emma, I need you to come see me at the Anderson estate. There's something we need to discuss.”“What,” She shrieked, knocking over the tube of moisturizer in the process. “Why did he
Chapter 6: After the weddingAmusement flickered in Lucas's eyes as he reminisced about Emma’s reaction to discovering he had booked the entire hotel for the wedding. He couldn't risk anyone finding out the truth about the wedding. They both walked through the hotel corridor, as they headed toward their room. Lucas watched Emma carefully as she dragged herself beside him. “she must have been tired from all they did today.” he pondered, feeling a little guilty. They arrived at the penthouse and Lucas was about to use the key card when Emma suddenly asked “ Where do I sleep?”“On a bed, where else,” Lucas replied as he opened the door to the penthouse. He glanced over at Emma as he watched her eyes widen in shock till worry was etched all over her face.Don’t worry, I asked for two beds,” Lucas stated, closing the door.Emma exhaled the breath she'd been holding, uncertain of how she'd bear sharing a room with him for the night.“And rest assured, nothing will ever happen between us,”
Lucas was sipping his morning coffee as he stared at the message his Grandmother, Darcy had sent him. “Dear son, today is the dinner, remember to bring your wife, see you soon,” Lucas chuckled at his grandmother’s choice ofwords. He knew that she must have been dying of curiosity to know whether he was truly married or he was just making up lies so that he wouldn't get married to Carla. She may even be monitoring him now.He stayed with her for more than twenty years so he could naturally predict her entire movements now, she was his Grandmother after all.He was now standing in front of his full-height mirror, he made sure he had the mirror installed in every house that he owned. A normal person would think that he was just gazing at the city and its beautiful skyline but he was just reliving his memory of Mia running out of the mansion seven years ago. Why didn't he stop her?But now his thoughts were filled with Emma, how was she going to cope with his Grandma's tantrums? Becau
Lucas spent an entire thirty minutes trying to convince his grandmother, Darcy, that Mia and Emma were two different persons. They were seated now but that didn't stop his Grandma from giving Emma side glances throughout the dinner, he even caught her glare at him.“How did you two meet,” Darcy suddenly asked.Emma panicked for a second. she wanted to ask Lucas what she was going to say if that question was thrown at her but he gave her the silent treatment throughout their ride here.Lucas turned to look at Emma, he gently took her hands in his and kissed them softly. “We met at a bar, one look at her and I knew she was the one for me,” he replied confidently, returning his gaze to his Grandmother.Emma lost herself in his act for a second, she would have believed him if she hadn't been entangled in everything, she wasn't prepared for all that was happening.“Hmmm, A bar really… And you already got married,” Darcy scoffed, pointing to the rings.“She’s the one for me so I don't see a
“Uhhh… how dare she!!! Carla screeched as she slammed the door behind her.”Mr Giovanni watched Carla throw a fit “What's wrong Princessa? Why are you in such a foul mood?” “Dad it's Lucas again, he went ahead and married that woman from nowhere.” Carla knew what she was doing, her dad hated to see her cry, and that was why she headed straight to his office. So this was the perfect plan for now. Mr. Giovanni continued signing papers when he suddenly paused “What—??” “Do you mean, he got married?” Mr. Giovanni replied, worrying clouding his face. “There was no way Lucas had gone behind their back and gotten married… ruining his plan for him to get married to his daughter, Carla so that he would finally get to take over the whole of the Andersons Co.”Mr Giovanni, still lost in thought, didn't realize that Carla was calling out for him. “What were you thinking about Dad, you didn't respond to my question.” Carla looked over to her Dad with raised eyebrows.Mr Giovanni shrugged off
Lucas made his proposal to Adrian Peele, the founder of the Peele.Co, he wanted Adrian Peele to transfer his fifteen percent of shares that he had in the Anderson Co. business to him in exchange of a deal that he knew that he could not refuse. He was going to agree to a franchise that Peele had wanted for decades. They wanted a franchise to create an hotel where the both of them, giants in the industries would create the biggest and the largest hotel in all of mankind but there was a problem, the proposed bit of land they were going to use for the Project belonged to the Andersons and Darcy had refused to release it all these years.“On one condition,” Lucas hand tensed, causing him to stop the talking. He had planned this carefully and he was sure that Adrian was going to agree without second thoughts but when Adrian had opted for a condition, uncertainty crept up his mind.“What condition,” Lucas asked, still maintaining his composure, with hope that it wouldn’t be anything too gra
Lucas and Emma had arrived at the Peele hotel where the meeting was going to be held. They were going over the documents for presentation at the meeting when Emma realized that some important pages of the document were missing.“I warned you Emma, I warned you, where are the documents!!!” Lucas was seething at this point. The meeting was very crucial to him if he wanted to be free of Darcy’s control and finally take over the Anderson’s corporation.Emma had her hands behind her back as she tried to assess the severity of the situation. She was sure that she had crosschecked multiple times before they had left the company and everything was complete. Emma ransacked her bag searching for the missing pages well aware of Lucas’s glares following her every move.Lucas moved dangerously close to Emma, his mind in distress. The Peele deal was a very crucial step and it took him so many months to set up the meeting but it was about to be in vain.Emma felt Lucas’s hot breath glide across th
The phone rang again this time causing Emma to jolt from her sleep, she was still half asleep but reluctantly answered the call.“Emma, where are you?” Nathan was genuinely concerned for Emma, this was a first, she was always early.Emma's eyes widened and she scanned her room taking in her surroundings.“Emma…” Nathan had a strange feeling at this moment, because Emma wasn't responding.“Shit, I'm late,” Emma scurried across her room as she tried to get ready quickly.Nathan's laugh reverberated through the call.“Not funny Nathan,” Emma was miserable enough, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was all over the place and she looked hideous, memories from last night started flooding in one by one. Her falling asleep, her nightmare, her hands on his waist, Lucas carried her in his arms, and his kiss on her forehead…just what had happened last night. “Well whatever you need to do to get here, do it fast, seems like your boss is on the look for you,” Nathan was passing by
Emma felt her heart drop as she heard the phone on her desk ring again for the umpteenth time that morning. She answered on the first ring, “Sir,” but there was no response till she heard the cold voice that ran shivers through her spine.“Where are you?” he was already annoyed and Emma could sense it. It was clear as day and Emma knew she had to be careful when responding.“At the office,” She tried so hard to sound confident so he couldn't sense the fear in her voice.“And what about the documents i asked you to bring thirty minutes ago,” Lucas had an octave in his, he was really getting angry,
