Nancy’s POV

It’s been two days, and I haven’t heard nor seen Dr Williams, I can’t help but worry as I have less than five days to the deadline. Sitting on the armchair beside my mother’s hospital bed, I stare at her, she’s hooked to a few machines with wires. I touch and caress her face delicately, the sickness has taken a toll on her beautiful skin, just as my phone rings, I remove my hands from her face to pick it up without looking at the Id

“Miss Levy! I’ve been trying to reach you for days now to no avail. Your rent has been due for over 3 months and you’ve yet to say or do anything. I’d advise you to come get yours and your mother’s miserly things as they litter the streets. I’ve changed my locks, good riddance to bad luck tenants like you lots!” not waiting for my response, he cuts the call.

I wipe at the tears in my eyes, they’ve become my only companion and solace, it dawns on me now that I have nowhere to go, when my mother gets better, I wonder how we’d do it.

Pain in my heart, I stand and head to the toilet to clear my head and cry my eyes out in peace. Lost in my thoughts, I get to the toilet, enter one of the stalls, close the lid and sit on it as I think of life and cry at the unfair hand it dealt us. I can’t help but snivel loudly and try to withhold the sob as I’m in a public toilet, when I think I’ve had my fill of self-pity, I stand and open the door

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! What the heck!” I shrill and shriek at the same time “What are you doing here!?”

Seems like minus being blind, this person is either deaf or mute, or even both. I stare at him in disgust and disbelief, as he continues to also stare at me, his mouth agape

“Sir! What are you doing in the females’ toilet? Pervert” I glare at him in annoyance, although my voice is hoarse from crying, I can’t help but shriek and demand an answer

“Say something you freak!!! Stop staring at me.” ‘Oh my God, do I need to call security, am I being kidnapped or something!?’ I mumble to myself, only for me to hear a scoff. Oh, he speaks and has the guts to smirk as well.

I notice his eyes are still on me, they roam me from head to toe, and I feel a shiver down my toes at the glance

“I’m not in the kidnapping business, and if I were, you wouldn’t be a likely candidate” he finally directs at me. I can’t help but shiver at the voice, even if he seems an annoying person, his voice is like silk and milk, smooth.

“Insult me all you like, but you still haven’t answered the question, what are you doing in the female’s bathroom!?” He takes a step towards me, and I take a step back

‘Oh God, I don’t want to die, at least not yet!’ I pray internally. As if reading my thoughts, he bursts out laughing. If looks could kill, I’m sure he’d drop dead here and now as I glare at him

He raises his hands in defence

“I’m not into the killing business either Red” gaping at him with mouth wide open, is he into mind reading or something? I can’t help but open my mouth in shock. Wait did he just refer to me as Red? As in the color red?

I give him a bombastic side-eye look

“It’s usually not written on the face, and I’m not Red”

“Well your hair and face say otherwise” he gives another smirk at his response.

I wonder why such an annoying being would be this handsome, it ought to be a crime. Once again, he moves towards me, and I take another step back

“I’m sorry that you think I’m in the wrong bathroom, it’s a misunderstanding, and I’m not a pervert like you initially called me. A pervert would kiss those rosebud lips of yours without hesitating, but I’m a gentleman so I’d refrain and count this act as a mistake and misunderstanding on your part” he says while he adjusted his jacket, I quickly clamp my lips shut, not taking any chances.

He lifts his hands to touch me, and I flinch backwards. I look at him in suspicion,

“Don’t you dare touch me!! A pervert wouldn’t say he was, but what you just said makes you sound like one! You do know you can get arrested for violation and also sneaking into the women’s bathroom! Hey, don’t look at me like that!!” I stomp my feet in anger

‘classy Nancy, real classy’ I chide myself sarcastically

“What are you? 5? Who stamps their feet at this age” he shakes his head in amusement, and I feel the urge to wipe the look off his face

“I’m not one to be threatened Red, and you aren’t in the league of women that I’d touch” he tells me, just as he quotes the air

‘Arrghhhhhh, such an annoying fellow’

Suddenly the closed door rattles from outside, and I hear someone grumble, I look at him in disbelief, the pervert locked the door!

“Yet you say you aren’t a pervert, but you closed the door!”

Shrugging he replied

“I’m a private person, I like to do my private business private” and winked as well.

He turned, and headed to the door,

‘Oh my god!! The person would think we’ve been up to something dirty’

Rushing to him, I grab his arms

“You can’t just open it, what is she going to think when she comes in?”

“She? Really? I thought you didn’t want me touching you, who’s touching who now Red?”

I hastily remove my hand from his arms, even if he hadn’t said a thing I would have. I can’t explain it, but the moment I touched him, I felt something funny down my spine, shaking my head to clear whatever sensation that was I explained my concern to him

“You are in the female toilet, what is she gonna think when she sees you here, she can call security or something”

“Well, I’m not scared nor bothered. Are you?”

I slapped my palm to my face

“I think you should stay in one of the stalls, while I go distract her or something”

He stared at me funny and shook his head in amazement. Without arguing or anything he stood where he was and gestured to the door

“Be my guest, I’ll wait here and see how it all pans out” he told me and winked

‘Argh!!’

I get to the door, and as soon as I open it, I’m met with a raised fist and an angry scowl of....a man.
