Good riddance

I was amused. Not only didn't she recognize me, but she seemed to think she could buy me over with money. It was funny. Watching the woman who had been a thorn in my side when I was married to Dashiell, I felt the urge to disgrace her, to show her not everyone could be bullied. Just because I seemed easy on the face didn't mean she could toss me aside like she wanted.

I leaned back in my chair, smiling as I folded my arms. I didn't say a word, and that infuriated her.

“What do you say?” She sounded impatient, checking her wristwatch as if she was expecting someone.

“Why should I give up the table? Give me a reason?” My voice was calm, as always. It was a wonder she didn't recognise me. Did I change that much? I doubt. Lilith and Dashiell recognised me with no problem.

It could only mean she never closely looked at me. She must have felt I wasn't worth it.
