I checked her office for the tenth time, worried. It had been 2 hours since she left for her lunch break, more than the time allocated by the company for workers. not like I was worried about that. Leaning on the wall, I closed my eyes, clutching the flower vase to my chest as I wondered if she had gone to pick her kids up. If that was it, would she bring them to the office?

That would be superb! Spending time with that lovely kid River was the best thing I ever experienced. I didn't know I loved kids until I met him.

“What are you doing here?”

Startled by the question, I almost threw the bouquet on the floor but caught myself at the right moment. Forcing a nervous smile on my lips, I turned towards her, reaching out to smoothen my hair.

“Hi, didn't see you there.” I was as cool as ever. Well, as casual as I could be leaning on the wall next to her door, with the flowers and an awkward smile on my face.

“Yeah, right.” She rolled her eyes, pursing her lips as she stared
