Estella's POV
My jaw dropped open. I wish I had the willpower to close it. All I could do was stare at him. Even if I was clumsy, I knew that the glass was blurred before. I could not see into the office whatever was going on. So, the meaning of this is that he's been looking at me the whole time I thought he was around. Probably thinking I was an idiot. He must have seen me when I walked around the office checking things out, or when I did a little twirl in hopes of celebrating me getting a job. Or when I drank my coffee and almost spewed it out because of how hot it was. God knows how many dumb things I have done since I entered this office this morning. I still haven't taken my eyes off of the man. The same thing with him too. He was looking at me and there was nothing I could do to stop him. He had this blank expression that I could not read in his eyes. Few seconds later, he gestures that I should enter his office and he turns away from me. And right in front of my eyes, the glass blurred back and I could literally see nothing inside the office space. After getting myself together, I put the phone back in its pod and hoped to God that it did not crack or something. I took my writing pad and walked towards his office. There was no way I could avoid this, so I might as well get it over with. I smothered my hand over my pencil skirt and walked into the office after knocking twice without any reply from him. As soon as I stepped into the space, my nose was invaded by his smell. And God, did he smell so good. I was sure it was his scent because I was up close with him the last time I saw him, which was yesterday. I made sure that I stayed at a safe distance away from him. Because with the scowl in his face, I wouldn't be surprised if he threw something at me. I've heard about him, but I hope he's not a violent person. I can't deal with those ones. “Miss Davis, we had an agreement yesterday did we not?” He asked me, without looking up from the document in front of him. My mind went haywire, trying to think about the agreement he is talking about. If it was regarding what he gave to me, I am still trying to soak everything in. “I know I should have brought in your coffee by the time that you specified for me. I…I got carried away by work and I didn't see you come in and…” the raise of his head a little from what he was doing made me keep shut immediately. His eyebrow was raised indefinitely and he was literally peering at me from under his glasses which made me feel like an annoying stub under his ridiculously expensive shoe. Not like I've seen it, but I feel like his shoe will be expensive just like the air around him. “That still did not change the fact that you didn't bring it at the time allocated for it.” He said indignantly. He sounded like an annoying step mother. Probably Cinderella's to be precise. “I…” He raised his hand to stop me from saying any other thing. “I felt like I made myself clear to you the other day, did I not? Or you want me to go over it again after I told you I hate repeating myself?” Okay, he was scaring me right now. Is he going to fire me after a few hours of working with him? I've not even done anything like that. “I'm sorry.” I apologized since I heard somewhere that arrogant men love when they are begged. “I do not need your fucking apologies, Miss Davis. I need you to stay on your fucking game with me. I.hate.tardiness. I told you this yesterday, did I not?” He emphasized each word that he said. I felt the back of my eyes burn like I wanted to cry. I blinked them back. I'm not going to cry. No matter how weak I am, I won't cry. This is all my fault and I admit it. I'll just have to do better. “I like my things done in order. The only reason I'm not firing you right now is because Tom was the one that hired you. And he has a reason he did. But, if that reason is literally you fucking up my day from the beginning of it, I'll definitely have to let you go. This is your first strike, Miss Davis.” He said, and I wanted to cry then. This is all shit. I felt like shit. “I'm sorry, Mr Beaumont. It won't happen again.” “It better not.” He said and continued with whatever it is he was doing. He must definitely hate women. I heard that yesterday before I left this place. He wasn't a typical gentleman at all. And I understand. He does not have to be a gentleman with all the amount of money he has. Women will be the ones throwing themselves at his feet just to have his attention. And he will make sure to treat them like shit, that I'm very sure of. “Why didn't you get the stuff I gave you my card for?” He asked me when I was about to leave his office. I gripped onto the pad in my hands as anger coursed through my veins. “I won't be using your card sir, because I don't need it. I have clothes and I'm okay with what I have.” I said in a strong voice that I patted myself on the back. He looked at me for a second before he dropped the glasses he had on the top of his nose. He looked very attractive with and without them. Too bad he was a bastard with a shitty attitude. “I'm not okay with them. So, I'm asking you to change them.” The audacity of this man. “And like I said, I won't be doing anything like that. It's my body last I remember and you won't be dictating that part of my stay here.” I bit my tongue but then the words already fell. He was such a bastard. “You know what, I….” His words were cut short as the door to his office flung open. “Please tell me you've not fired the pretty ass assistant.” Someone whined from behind me. I turned to look and I saw that it was the guy from yesterday. Kade. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me. He didn't look embarrassed in the least when he saw me. Men. I felt self conscious with the way he described me. I mean, I was not your typical model figure girl. I had curves and all, and I'm sure men like them aren't into girls like me which was a blessing. “Oh, hi pretty girl. I thought for a second that I might have lost the chance of seeing you again.” He said in a charming voice that made me actually smile. “Hi.” I said in a small voice. He took my empty hand and kissed the back of it. Such a charmer. I definitely like this one. “What the fuck do you think you're doing Kade?” And boom, the monster interrupts. I rolled my eyes. But then, it stopped on him. He saw what I did and I swear there was something there. Like, a promise of some kind. “What does it look like? Keeping my favorite girl around.” “All girls are your favorite.” He grunted. “Oh, please. Don't spoil my chance with the girl you dumb fuck.” I laughed out loud then. But slapped my hand to my mouth when his eyes shot daggers at me. “I'll take my leave.” I said and didn't wait for him to dismiss me as I made a beeline out of the office. I need to up my game if I want to work with this man. But one thing is certain, I won't stay for long. It's a matter of time before he fires me.Estella's POV Rain thundered heavily on the roofs as I walked quickly away from the convenience store that I just finished shopping from. There was no point in running anyway since I was already beaten by it. I hate this time of the year and even though I don't like it, I have to deal with it. I turned into the alley that was barricaded in greasy walls and the rain made it look like it was shining. When I got to the back door of the restaurant, I quickly jammed my key into it and turned it, grateful that it opened once this time. I quickly walked in and immediately, I felt the warmth of the place. Ignoring the gnawing pain in my abdomen, I pulled off the coat I had on and hung it on one empty rack there, allowing the water to drain away from it. I can't take the coat with me inside, only if I want to drop water all over the place. And I was not interested in taking an ear-full speech from Astrid, the owner. “Aren't you so sweet?” Speak of the devil. I rolled my eyes internally
Estela's POV The following day came by very fast and I dragged myself out of bed to make my usual meal, with what I had in the fridge, to an episode of groaning in pain. I ate and had my bath. Today was my day off at the cafe, and I had nothing to do with my morning. I decided to check the applications I sent out to see if there was any reply. But there was nothing. I sighed as I relaxed back on the couch, staring at the picture of my mother that was on the opposite side of the wall. We looked alike. It was like I was staring at the older version of myself. The heaviness in my heart did not ease as I continued to look at it. Not knowing, tears start to roll from my eyes. I do not regret that I was in debt to pay for her treatment, but that I could not do anything for her before she died. She died in pain and there was nothing I could do. I just stood by and watched as it happened. Not able to do anything about it. She was the only one I had. Worked her ass off for me. I never knew
Jason's POV “Don't fucking tell me that! Your reason does not make any sense for the sales report to drop by one percent! What happened to working hard?” I slammed my hand so hard on the table that the coffee cups shook and almost tipped over. They looked scared already and that was good. A better reaction. “I am not paying the lot of you ridiculous amount of money for my sales report to be dropping. I need improvement every single month. We are not the top business in the country for no reason.” I snarled at all of them. They didn't look me in the eye. And that was the best decision they could ever make today. Anyone who tried it will be the one to take the blame for everyone. I feel like firing someone. “Get out.” I waved my hand at them dismissively. They all scrambled out like I was after their lives. I rested back in the chair and spun away from the table, watching what was going on below me. From this high, I can see cars coming and going and unnecessary business. Even thou
Estella's POV I stammered my name out, still dazed. When the lady told me to follow the older man, I did as I was told. I didn't know where he was going or what he was up to. All I knew was that I followed him. He entered a big room that I assumed was a conference room with how long the table was and the chairs that were there. I didn't know that he was introducing me to my new boss until he said it. I took my time to compose myself behind me before I faced him to talk. Immediately, I came out from behind him to introduce myself to my new boss, and my jaw dropped. And I meant, literally drop. I could not stop the staring that I was doing. Not in the seven heavens would I have imagined that the mane that I would be working for would look like this. He was the most handsome man I have ever met in my entire life. He was resting in the chair like he owned the whole world. Well, he did have the whole world given the amount of money he had. I mean, he was a billionaire. I did my homewo
My cheeks are still heated anytime I remember what he said yesterday regarding my looks. I mean, I'm not exactly bad looking and I dress properly, but then, I felt like it was his way of humiliating me. I did not bother to do anything with the card. The plan was to return it to him this morning. I might not be rich, but I was not a gold digger either. I was overthinking. I got down from the taxi and made my way into the building. Everywhere was as it was yesterday. Sparkling and all. I am particularly hyped up about the job, giving this my first official job after graduating. And I wanted to give it my all. I entered the elevator with a group of people and noticed that my floor had been pressed already, so I kept quiet and concentrated on getting to my floor, which was the top floor. “Do you know that Jason has gotten himself a new secretary?” One lady chipped, not so silently behind me. They weren't talking about the CEO right? I mean, who in their right minds called their bosses
