My cheeks are still heated anytime I remember what he said yesterday regarding my looks. I mean, I'm not exactly bad looking and I dress properly, but then, I felt like it was his way of humiliating me.
I did not bother to do anything with the card. The plan was to return it to him this morning. I might not be rich, but I was not a gold digger either. I was overthinking. I got down from the taxi and made my way into the building. Everywhere was as it was yesterday. Sparkling and all. I am particularly hyped up about the job, giving this my first official job after graduating. And I wanted to give it my all. I entered the elevator with a group of people and noticed that my floor had been pressed already, so I kept quiet and concentrated on getting to my floor, which was the top floor. “Do you know that Jason has gotten himself a new secretary?” One lady chipped, not so silently behind me. They weren't talking about the CEO right? I mean, who in their right minds called their bosses boss boss boss by his name? “You mean an assistant. Yeah, I heard. I wish I was the one in that position for real. I'd do anything for the man.” The other one said. I wanted to enter the ground. I'm sure they didn't know me but then, having people talk about you in front of you wasn't really my cup of tea. “I heard she was bland too. Like, he changed tastes in recruiting this one. Looks so odd, like a lost puppy.” They both laughed like what they said was funny. Suddenly, given the fact that the elevator suddenly went silent, I felt like they were staring at me. I looked simple and not as extravagantly dressed like the rest of them. My body was aware of the looks it was receiving. “The fact that the new secretary and assistant, because I hear she's filling the position for the two, is not dressing like the remaining ones that were fired, means she will be staying longer than them. At least, she's not dressing to bang the boss or get his attention. She's that capable, to do the two.” A guy voiced out from the back. I wanted to look back and silently appreciate him, but that will definitely give me away, so I kept quiet. The girls kept shut then. The elevator stopped and the girls filed out with some other people. It remained only me and the guy, because I could see him through my peripheral vision. My gaze went up to see how many floors were left to reach my floor. “Hi. Sorry about those girls. They are such prudes. Don't know how to talk. I'm Cullen.” He said, walking forward to stay beside me. I was dumbfounded. I turned my head to the side to look at him and be sure he was talking to me. And he was. He had a charming smile on and there was a dimple on his face that made him look really handsome. He looked like he was a rich kid from this boarding school that just got out. “Hu…mmm, hi,” I cleared my throat to avoid embarrassing myself further. I clutched the coffee container I had well to avoid them spilling out. “My name is Estella. Estella Davis. I work here…I mean, I just got a job here and….” He laughed out and I kept my mouth shut immediately, I could feel my cheeks heat up from embarrassment again. “I know you. Everyone knows you already. You're the big bad wolf's new prey. While I hope for the best for you, I know you can do it too.” He said with all sincerity. I was about to thank him, but the doors opened signaling my floor. As soon as I stepped out, he did after me too and I knew he works here. “See you later, sweetheart.” He winked and walked off, leaving me to figure myself out. I looked around the space, and discovered that there weren't many people yet which I was thankful for. I woke up quite early this morning to get here and put things in order. I walked to my workspace which was bigger than I had envisioned. It was almost like an office on its own, only that it was open in front. After I was done settling in, I took the chart that was given to me the other day and started working with it. Fixing his calls and putting down everything he'll be doing today in his diary. In the next few minutes, I'll make his coffee to drop it on his table. He had a weird sweet taste. And since I was a barista before, I could figure it out. Something shrilled and I jumped in my chair, bringing me back to the present. I realized it's the alarm I set, but when I checked the time in a glancing moment, I discovered it was past the time for his coffee. Shit. Shit. He'll be here anytime and he has to meet it on his desk. How did I forget about it? The alarm did do its job. It wasn't me. But then, that's not an excuse that will be feasible with him. I scrambled out of my chair and was about to step out to go into the lunch room that was not far away when the telephone on the table rang. “Estella Davis from the office of Jason Beaumont.” I said as soon as I picked the call. This was the first call it was receiving and it sounded strange, but I liked it too. “What do you think you're doing Miss Davis?” I froze as soon as his voice washed over me. It was him. Why was he calling? “N.. nothing sir. I'm at work, expecting your arrival sir.” I stammered out and I wanted to slap my mouth. I sounded like a child. Oh God. “Where's my coffee?” He asked and I was short of words. “What do you mean?” “I'm the one asking the questions here, not you. So how about you answer the damn question?” He said coldly and I could feel myself shift in my shoes. “You're not at work yet and I am ….” “What was on the list I gave you? 7:55 for my coffee, no?” I rolled my eyes sarcastically but I did not say anything since it was my first day at the job. The man is an ass. And he's rude too. “If you roll your eyes one more time, you won't like what will happen.” I snapped my head up to look at the camera that was in my corner. “Wh…how…you can't see that.” I stammered out. “You will be surprised by how much I can see.” He said and the glass wall demarcating his office became see through and there he was, sitting in all his glory. The phone fell from my hand as I stared at him and he looked like he was looking directly into my soul.Estella's POV My jaw dropped open. I wish I had the willpower to close it. All I could do was stare at him. Even if I was clumsy, I knew that the glass was blurred before. I could not see into the office whatever was going on. So, the meaning of this is that he's been looking at me the whole time I thought he was around. Probably thinking I was an idiot. He must have seen me when I walked around the office checking things out, or when I did a little twirl in hopes of celebrating me getting a job. Or when I drank my coffee and almost spewed it out because of how hot it was. God knows how many dumb things I have done since I entered this office this morning. I still haven't taken my eyes off of the man. The same thing with him too. He was looking at me and there was nothing I could do to stop him. He had this blank expression that I could not read in his eyes. Few seconds later, he gestures that I should enter his office and he turns away from me. And right in front of my eyes, the
Estella's POV Rain thundered heavily on the roofs as I walked quickly away from the convenience store that I just finished shopping from. There was no point in running anyway since I was already beaten by it. I hate this time of the year and even though I don't like it, I have to deal with it. I turned into the alley that was barricaded in greasy walls and the rain made it look like it was shining. When I got to the back door of the restaurant, I quickly jammed my key into it and turned it, grateful that it opened once this time. I quickly walked in and immediately, I felt the warmth of the place. Ignoring the gnawing pain in my abdomen, I pulled off the coat I had on and hung it on one empty rack there, allowing the water to drain away from it. I can't take the coat with me inside, only if I want to drop water all over the place. And I was not interested in taking an ear-full speech from Astrid, the owner. “Aren't you so sweet?” Speak of the devil. I rolled my eyes internally
Estela's POV The following day came by very fast and I dragged myself out of bed to make my usual meal, with what I had in the fridge, to an episode of groaning in pain. I ate and had my bath. Today was my day off at the cafe, and I had nothing to do with my morning. I decided to check the applications I sent out to see if there was any reply. But there was nothing. I sighed as I relaxed back on the couch, staring at the picture of my mother that was on the opposite side of the wall. We looked alike. It was like I was staring at the older version of myself. The heaviness in my heart did not ease as I continued to look at it. Not knowing, tears start to roll from my eyes. I do not regret that I was in debt to pay for her treatment, but that I could not do anything for her before she died. She died in pain and there was nothing I could do. I just stood by and watched as it happened. Not able to do anything about it. She was the only one I had. Worked her ass off for me. I never knew
Jason's POV “Don't fucking tell me that! Your reason does not make any sense for the sales report to drop by one percent! What happened to working hard?” I slammed my hand so hard on the table that the coffee cups shook and almost tipped over. They looked scared already and that was good. A better reaction. “I am not paying the lot of you ridiculous amount of money for my sales report to be dropping. I need improvement every single month. We are not the top business in the country for no reason.” I snarled at all of them. They didn't look me in the eye. And that was the best decision they could ever make today. Anyone who tried it will be the one to take the blame for everyone. I feel like firing someone. “Get out.” I waved my hand at them dismissively. They all scrambled out like I was after their lives. I rested back in the chair and spun away from the table, watching what was going on below me. From this high, I can see cars coming and going and unnecessary business. Even thou
Estella's POV I stammered my name out, still dazed. When the lady told me to follow the older man, I did as I was told. I didn't know where he was going or what he was up to. All I knew was that I followed him. He entered a big room that I assumed was a conference room with how long the table was and the chairs that were there. I didn't know that he was introducing me to my new boss until he said it. I took my time to compose myself behind me before I faced him to talk. Immediately, I came out from behind him to introduce myself to my new boss, and my jaw dropped. And I meant, literally drop. I could not stop the staring that I was doing. Not in the seven heavens would I have imagined that the mane that I would be working for would look like this. He was the most handsome man I have ever met in my entire life. He was resting in the chair like he owned the whole world. Well, he did have the whole world given the amount of money he had. I mean, he was a billionaire. I did my homewo
