The next morning, Sam was at my house as early as 6am.
“I got you very beautiful clothes, that'll be the perfect first day attire. Trust me, you'll feel very confident in them." She said reassuringly.
I was glad that she was helping me out with this and, I was really happy to have a best friend as this.
However, that gratitude disappeared when I saw the dress that she brought out from the bag.
“Sam, I'm going to work. Not a club." The dress was a short, body con leather dress, with an off the shoulder neck.
The stupid smile on her face made me so confused.
“Exactly, you're going to work. If you wear this and your boss sees you, maybe he'll take you to the club and from there, he'll take you home."
I have her a very dull look. “You need help. Seriously."
She shrugged and brought out all the clothes she had brought with her. Thankfully, I was able to find a pair of work pants to pair with my favorite top.
The top that Sam hated so much.
“Ewww, are you really wearing that 15th century top?" I laughed at how judgmental she was towards the top.
“I like the top and that's all that matters." I sat down in front of my dressing mirror thinking if what to do with my hair.
“You like the top, and that's the problem. Someone is going to say something about this top, I tell you. I'm very sure I won't be the only one to talk"
She helped me do my hair and by the time we were done, I still had enough time to make it to the office in time.
I hailed a cab and got into it quickly, telling the driver my address. Nervousness courses through my veins and I couldn't help but be anxious as to who my new boss was, and how this experience was going to be like.
The lobby was filled with people going about the daily business as usual and I walked straight to the receptionist's desk.
“Good morning, I'm Sarah Willing and I'm here to see Mr James, we have an appointment. " I introduced myself.
She searched through her computer, and doesn't even look up from it, but responds, “Sixth floor."
I felt very awkward, but I walked away, nonetheless. I had more pressing issues at hand.
The classic music that was playing in the elevator, almost made me hesitate to leave. The Manager's office was empty when I walked in and I didn't know whether taking a seat was the smartest thing to do, so I just stood.
Thoughts filled my head about if I had really made a terrible choice in wearing this top. The door swung open and the manager walked in.
“Mrs Willing, sorry for keeping you waiting. I had something to attend to. Please, have a seat." He ushered me to a chair and he took a seat at the other side.
“Welcome to our company. I was actually with your new boss, he's been expecting you. I want to believe you know what your job entails. You'll be his assistant, meaning you're to be there with him at all times. You're to fix his meal, his clothes, his schedule and make sure his day runs smoothly." He explained.
That didn't seem so hard. I had been doing that for Simon for ten years, so it wasn't going to be very hard, doing it for someone older than him, who was going to pay me eventually.
I nodded my head and he stood up from his seat.
“Let's go, so I'll introduce you to him. You're very lucky, the boss asked for you specifically after seeing your file."
I followed him in silence as I smiled at what he said. Since the boss asked for me, it was going to be easy working with him. It meant he had seen my capabilities and strengths and decided it was best.
When we got to the office, I took a deep breath.
“Good day, sir. I've brought Miss Willing." He said after walking before me into the office.
My greeting got stuck in my mouth when I raised my head up to see who my boss was. It was that rude garden gnome, that I bumped into the other day.
The stupid smirk on his face let me know that purposely picked me.
“You can leave us, James." He dismissed the manager.
“You... you own the company?" I pointed my finger at him.
“Yes, and now... I own you, because you work for me. " He sounded so happy with himself, and I couldn't help but conclude that this was planned.
“This is bullshit, I'm not working for you." Even though I didn't mean it because I needed the job, I had to act like I didn't care.
I couldn't work for this pompous brat. I won't survive the first month.
“I don't think you have a choice though, I hear you're in need of money." I stopped in my tracks and slowly turned around, my eyes in slits.
“What did you say? How did you know?" Something in me obviously didn't like this guy.
He scoffed and picked up his phone.
“There's nothing I don't know."
I just shook my head, and stared at him as he didn't say anything to me anymore.
“I can't work for a rude gnome like you."
“Did you just call me a gnome?" He finally dropped his phone and stood up, walking over to where I was standing.
“Yes... yes I did." I tried to keep. my head high as he stood very close to me, and his scent filling my insides.
He was taller than me so I ended up having to look up and he hovered over me.
“Between the both of us, who's the garden gnome now?"
I could barely get words out of my mouth, and I just kept swallowing as I stared deeply Into his eyes.
“Why do you always find it hard to answer questions, when you're being asked?" He finally walked away from me, and I cleared my throat, to gather myself.
“I don't think you have a choice, Miss Willing. You already accepted the job, so if you go back on your word, I'll have to sue you for breach of contract."
Was he kidding me? There was absolutely no way I was going to work for this brat. However, I needed money to take care of a lot of things. I needed to make a decision.
“So, what will it be, Miss Willing?"
I looked at him for the longest time, and took a deep breath, making up my mind.
“Where's my office?"
★Sarah★★My alarm clock must have rang for the third time that morning and that was when I stood up from the bed. My eyes felt like a million needles were pricking it at the same time and I would give anything in this world just to go back to bed. I had to stay up late last night to complete a document for a meeting this morning and I had no idea that it would take this long. At three am, when my body couldn't take it anymore, I just had to go to bed. Breezing into my bathroom, I took the quickest and coldest shower possible and now had to stand in front of my wardrobe to pick out what to wear. This was the wrong time to start looking for the perfect outfit so I just picked out some suit pants and a blouse to match. It just had to be today of all days that all the taxis in the city would evade me. I still had at least forty five minutes before I was considered late and. I didn't want to give that leech the privilige to tag me late.As soon as I looked up, I saw one and grabbed it a
Stephen I had zoned out. There was no use listening to their constant ranting. I shouldn't have come back home. “Stephen, are you listening to me?" His aunt asked. I looked at her and blinked. I had a long day already and I wasn't in the mood to speak to anyone. To make matters worse, I had to do almost everything by myself today because of my incompetent secretary. “I know you don't see anything important in what we're saying but it's a serious issue. You're not getting any older. Your dad already broke family rules just to make you CEO-" “There you go again. What sacrifices did he make?" I looked at all of them “Dad?" My aunt was the one that answered me. “It's a rule in our family. It's been used for generations. No one must take over the company without first getting married. It helps keep them responsible. Your father skipped that rule with you. He let you take over because he felt you were old and responsible enough. That's why you have to get married before other elde
Sarah It took everything in me to walk into the company that windy Wednesday morning. I'd woken up earlier than expected and sat on my bed, thinking of how today was going to turn out. I mean, he hadn't fired me but that didn't excuse the fact that he sent me out of the company. I was so embarrassed and it was all his fault. There was absolutely no reason for him to be mad at me even though I almost killed him. I just hoped something happened and he found a reason not to come to work today. All that hope went down the drain when he walked out of the elevator in his blue three piece suit and laid back hair. My heart thumped loudly against my chest as he marched past me without acknowledging my greeting. I had to admit, he looked exceptionally handsome today but it's quite unfortunate that there's a mannerless pig under all that handsomeness.I cautiously sat back in my chair and regulated my breath because of the tension.
