“Mom” Madine called, placing her hand over her mother’s. Her mother’s body was cold as if she was dead. Madine had to put two fingers beneath her nostrils to be sure she was still breathing. She looked around the room for the air conditioner switch, she switched it off before returning to her mom.

“Look at your face.” She sniffled while caressing her mom’s face, swiping her thumb over her pale lips.

“Nadine really hurt you. What did you ever do to her? Did she have to treat you like this? You are not mad yet she locked you up in here.” Madine cracked, her voice shaking as tears ran down both sides of her cheeks.

“Mom, I will be better, I swear to you. I will come back and take you away from here. I will expose Nadine and make sure she pays for all that she did to you.” Madine wiped her eyes, brushing the tears off. She laid her head next to her mom and then placed her hand on herself.
