The time Kiandra had been hoping would never come finally came. It was nighttime and she and Samantha had snuck out of the latter’s house as they didn't want Nana to know that they were out of the house.

She was now in line, waiting to get admitted into the club.

Behind her were Samantha and Samantha’s boyfriend; a self-absorbed jerk which Kiandra was forced to tolerate as he was dating her best friend.

“Yo, Kiandra, why are you so stiff? We are going to a club and not to a war,” Tate, Samantha’s boyfriend, jabbed at her.

And it reminded Kiandra of why she hated him so much. The guy was one of the most popular guys in their high school and she was on the bottom of the popularity chain.

No one would even know her if not that she was friends with Samantha, whom everyone knew. The jerk didn’t hesitate to always bully her whenever Samantha wasn’t around, just for the fun of it.

“Stop it, Tate,” Samantha warned and Tate apologized.

After what felt like years to Kiandra, she finally got into the club, and she immediately hated it. As she looked around the club, she felt nauseated just staring at it.

What did Samantha and the rest of the people find to be fun in this? She needed to get out of this place and back to her room where her bed was.

Not wanting to let Samantha who was in front of her know that she was leaving, she slowly started to take steps backward and when she had managed to put some distance between her and her best friend, she turned and intended to run away.

However, she crashed into something that felt like a wall and lost her balance. Not wanting to fall, she grabbed hold of the man’s shirt. She opened her eyes which she had closed and became dumbstruck when she saw the man’s face.

She had seen handsome men before, but damn, this had to be the winner of them all! He had blue eyes as light as the ocean, skin as smooth as butter; a stubble jawline that was sharp.

She blinked and tried to regain her composure, but before she could, the man yanked his shirt away from her grip and she fell.

“Ow!” she cried and she shot a glare at the man for making her fall. “Why did you do that?” she asked him in anger.

“You should watch where you’re going and not blame others when you fall,” the man said coldly as he stared at her, not moving an inch to help her up.

She felt someone place her hands on her to help her up. Turning, she found that it was Samantha who had helped her up. “It was an accident. It wouldn’t have killed you to hold on for two more seconds, so I could stand on my feet,” Kiandra fired back.

“Kia, we should go,” Samantha said to her friend, worry evident in her voice.

Lucas stared at the young girl, who was in front of him with a stoic expression on his face. Having lived with a younger sister, he was used to seeing her throw tantrums, and the girl in front of him was no different from a child throwing a tantrum.

“Aren’t you a little too young to be in a club?” he asked condescendingly, which only added to Kiandra’s anger.

She was finally eighteen which meant that she was legally allowed to do a lot of things.

“You do realize that you have to be at least eighteen years to be here,” Liam butted in. “Can I see your ID?”

“She’s eighteen years old, sir. I’m sorry for the trouble caused,” Samantha said before Kiandra could insult the man. “We’ll be on our way now,” she grabbed hold of Kia’s hand and intended to leave.

“Your IDs,” Lucas growled, not wanting to let go.

Samantha sighed and brought out their IDs from her pocket. She then showed it to the men.

“Are you satisfied now, or are you going to ask for a birth certificate?” Kiandra scoffed.

“Happy eighteenth birthday. At least I can now understand why you are throwing a tantrum,” Lucas retorted, and Kiandra didn’t hesitate in kicking the man’s leg. She would have kicked in between his legs if she didn’t pity the man’s future children.

“Kia!” Samantha scolded. “I’m so sorry sir, please forgive her,” she said, and not wanting Kiandra to cause any more trouble, she dragged her friend away.

“Was it more painful than Mia’s kick?” Liam asked and busted into laughter. Just like his sister would kick him when she got mad at him, the girl whose name was Kiandra also did the same.

“I won’t spare that girl!” Lucas growled.

“Relax, she’s eighteen years old. Cut her some slack,” Liam said, and he dragged Lucas into the club. “Besides, just like your words implied, she is still immature. She’ll learn soon.”

****

“Why did you drag me away from there? I would have shown that asshole his place,” Kiandra sneered.

“You didn’t recognize those men, but I did, and we shouldn’t mess with those men,” Samantha warned Kiandra.

“Who were they?” Kiandra asked, as she had no idea who they were, but the way Samantha looked scared right now told her that they were not to be played with.

“The man you bumped into was Lucas Valencia and the other man beside him was Liam Volcano,” Samantha informed Kiandra.

The names sounded familiar to Kiandra, but she couldn’t exactly place where she had heard the names.

“They belong to two of the most respected families, not only in the country but in the world. You know, just like the Geranos, Brooks, Frasers and Baxters?” Samantha tried to jog her memory.

“What, they belong to that category!” Kiandra exclaimed in horror. The families which Samantha had just mentioned were the families who ran the entire business world.

The families were very powerful, and they were notorious for dealing with those who went against them in the most cruel ways. “I just messed with an heir to one of the most powerful families. I’m a dead woman,” Kia cried.

“You should have told me, Sammy,” she glared at Samantha.

“Why do you think I was trying to drag you out of there?” Samantha retorted. “I don’t think you should worry too much. I don’t think the men would be so cruel to try to do something to an eighteen-year-old,” she assured her friend.

“Are you sure?” Kiandra asked worriedly.

“Yes, now forget about those two and let’s have fun,” Samantha said, and she pulled Kiandra to the dance floor where Tate was.

The dance floor made Kiandra’s dizziness return, as it was too noisy and stuffy for her. After being constantly pushed for ten minutes, Kiandra reached her limits. “I’m going to go get a drink,” she told Samantha, who was busy with Tate.

Seeing that Samantha was preoccupied and wouldn’t mind her gone, Kiandra headed to the bar section. “Can I get a non-alcoholic drink?” she asked the bartender.

“Sure, coming right up,” the bartender said, and he started concocting her drink. “Here you go, ma’am,” he said about two minutes later.

“Thank you,” Kiandra replied, and she started drinking her cocktail. ‘I’m never going to a club ever again,’ she resolved.

“So you also hate the club,” she heard a man say to her. She turned to the side and found a man sitting next to her.

“Hmm, I do,” she answered and looked away, as she wasn’t interested in talking to the man. The man didn’t however seem to understand that, as he decided to keep talking.

“I also hate it too, but my friend didn’t care about that and he dragged me here to celebrate us getting new jobs,” the man who had been watching Kiandra ever since she stepped onto the dance floor said.

Hearing what the man said, Kiandra lowered her guard as they were both in the same situation. “My friend dragged me here to celebrate my eighteenth birthday, but she’s having more fun than I am.”

“That’s messed up,” the man replied while giving her a sad look. He then took his seat beside her.

“You should get back to your friend,” Kiandra told the man, as she didn’t want to keep him occupied while his friend was waiting for him.

“I don’t think he will mind. Look at him over there,” the man pointed to someone. Kiandra instinctively turned to look at whom the man beside her was pointing at.

This was a big mistake on her part, as the man took advantage of the opportunity that she was distracted to slip something into a drink.

“Oh, I guess you’re right,” Kiandra replied as she looked at her man, who was busy making out with a woman.

“Cheers to us hating this place,” the man raised his glass up.

“Cheers,” Kiandra replied, and she also raised her glass up before taking a sip out of her drink. The man then continued to engage her in a conversation, as he wanted to be there when the drug he had given her would start to take effect.

Kiandra suddenly started to feel hot and suffocated. At first, she decided to ignore it but with that; the feeling increased, making it hard to ignore it.

“Excuse me for a minute while I use the restroom,” she told the man, and immediately left.

The feeling got worse as she headed to the restroom. When she got there, there was no one there, and she quickly went to the sink and turned the water on.

She started splashing water on her face, which, for some reason, made her feel worse. What the hell was happening?

While she was in a state of confusion trying to figure out what had happened, the door to the restroom opened and the man she had been talking with walked in.

He had a sinister look in his eyes, which told her that he had something to do with what had happened to her. “What are you doing here, Thomas?” she asked him calmly.

“Well, you were taking too long, and so I came to check up on you,” Thomas replied and to Kiandra’s horror, he locked the door.

Her insides froze and her heart started to pound in her chest as she knew what he was about to do.

“Don’t come any closer,” she yelled when she saw Thomas moving close to her.

“Oh, come on, honey, don’t be like this. We were having so much fun back there, let’s have a little more fun,” he said, and he pounced on Kiandra.

“Let go, you bastard,” Kiandra yelled, and she rammed her knee in between his legs. This caused Thomas immediately to let her go. Kiandra used the opportunity to run out of the restroom.

The hotness she felt continued, and the fact that she couldn’t see clearly again affected her, as she couldn’t tell which was the way back to the club.

“I’ll get you for this, you bitch!” she heard Thomas’ voice echo as he came out of the restroom. When she turned back, she saw that he had managed to catch up to her.

“Ahhh!” she shrieked in horror and she started to run as fast as her legs would take her. A man suddenly appeared out of a corner, much to Kiandra’s relief. She increased her speed to reach where the man was.

The man had his back to her, and so she touched it, causing the man to stop in his tracks. When the man turned, she found none other than Lucas Valencia standing in front of her.

It was still baffling to her as to how Zendaya ended up in Lucas' hold especially considering the fact that Zendaya didn't like to associate herself with strangers.Zendaya didn’t answer her mother’s question. Instead, she crossed her hands and with a frown on her face, she said. “I don’t like Jayden,” she pouted.“The young boy?” Kiandra probed and Zendaya nodded. “Do you want to tell me what he did?”“No.” Zendaya shook her head and Kiandra decided not to push it as she didn’t want her daughter to get further upset.
