Her instincts

Lana pov

It's been three weeks since my return from the disastrous business trip with Donovan. What should have been a routine work engagement spiraled into chaos, and I was convinced it would be the last I traveled with him.

“Did you sleep with him?” the question sliced through my thoughts, cursing my heart to race. She shouldn't have just asked that. “I have this feeling you were involved with him, even if it was just a brief encounter- nothing at all?”

Her intensity felt like a spotlight, and I struggled to look her in the eyes. My heart raced as memories of the night surge back- the almost kisses, the way he had stormed to me in the bathroom. I desperately tried to suppress those thoughts.

“No, nothing like that occured.” I lied, pulling the duvet tighter around myself to shelf my face from her relentless scrutiny.
