In the Dark

Lana’s POV

We ran down the alley, adrenaline pushing us forward. My legs felt like they might give out, but I couldn’t stop. Donovan was just ahead, glancing back every few seconds, making sure I was still with him. The night air was filled with the sounds of distant sirens, and I could feel the weight of our situation pressing down on me.

“Where to now?” I panted, my breath coming in short bursts.

“There’s a park nearby,” Donovan replied, his voice steady despite the chaos. “We can hide there until things settle down.”

I nodded, following him as we turned another corner. The park was just ahead, its shadows stretching long under the moonlight. We slipped through the entrance, ducking behind a large oak tree.

“Okay, let’s catch our breath,” Donovan said, leaning against the tree trunk. I could see the tension in his shoulders. “But we can’t stay here for long. They’ll be looking for us.”
