The Tides Turn

Lana’s POV

We ran through the night, the adrenaline still coursing through my veins. My heart pounded as we navigated the winding streets, the sounds of chaos fading behind us. Donovan kept glancing over his shoulder, his eyes sharp and focused.

“We need to get to the safe house fast,” he said, urgency lacing his voice. “They won’t give up easily.”

I nodded, trying to catch my breath. “Do you think they’ll come after us?”

“Absolutely,” he replied, his jaw tightening. “But we can’t let them find us. We need a plan.”

As we turned a corner, I felt the cool breeze on my face, a welcome relief from the tension. “What’s the plan?” I asked, trying to stay calm despite the swirling fear in my mind.

Donovan hesitated. “We need to figure out how much they know and what they’re planning. If Sarah has allies, we need to find out who they are.”

Just as he finished speaking, a loud shout broke the stillness of the night. I froze, my stomach dropping. “Did you hear that?”
