A Web of Lies

Lana’s POV

We dashed down the alley, the cold night air stinging my face as we pushed forward. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed behind us, a reminder that danger was just steps away.

My heart raced in my chest, each beat like a drum calling me to run faster. Donovan’s grip on my hand was tight, and I could feel his determination matching my own.

“Which way now?” I gasped, glancing around for any escape route.

“Left!” Donovan shouted, pulling me toward a narrow street that led away from the chaos. I followed him, my mind racing. I felt like we were being hunted, and it was terrifying.

We rounded the corner and stumbled into a small courtyard filled with trash cans and dimly lit street lights. I could see a few people hanging around, their faces blurred in the shadows. We ducked behind a large dumpster, trying to catch our breath.

“Do you think they saw us?” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sound of my pounding heart.

“I don’t know,” Donovan repli
