Chapter 44: Promise

“Why are you suddenly apologizing?” Hendrix asked in utter confusion and disbelief.

He thought he just misheard it as he was too drunk to hear it clearly. However, as he stared at his mother, despite his headache, he still could clearly see his mother's teary eyes.

“Why are you crying?” he was bewildered.

Never once did he see his mother cry. Not even when he fell on the staircase when he was young nor his grandma m, her mother died eight years ago. She never shed tears in front of him. That's why there was a pinch in his heart as soon as he saw her almost crying.

Wilma held his hands again with pleading eyes. “I'm sorry, son. I made a mistake. I shouldn't have forged your signature and made Margaux believe that you couldn't wait to divorce her,” she confessed.

It didn't sink in at first. But the moment he realized what his mother had just told him, his eyes instantly darkened.

“What did you say, Mom?” he roared.

Since he was already drunk, he had no control of his emotion

I am concerned about David’s character. If he was the previous CEO of their pharmaceutical company, why does he allow his wife to misbehave?
