I heard a shrill voice yelling as she stomped to my cell, “You are not allowed to see the doctor. I don’t care how bad your injuries are. You are only to use the first aid kit in the kitchen.” I bowed my head, “Yes Luna.” She sneered, “Since you have that cast on your hand now, you will stay down here and I will make sure you never forget this lesson.” I gasped, “I’m sorry, Luna. I didn’t know.” She snapped, “Well, now you do. That doesn’t mean you are getting away with it.” She grabbed my good wrist and took me to a room that reeked of death, blood and urine. There were chains hanging from the ceiling, a steel table that had drain holes along the edges, and a chair that had handcuffs and shackles attached to it. The chair was way too big to fit me in it, so that made me feel a little better.

That relief was short lived when she put handcuffs on my good hand and hung me by one hand just high enough to keep my feet from touching the floor. Before I knew it, I was feeling my back being ripped to shreds. Between each crack of the whip, she would call me names such as worthless, runt, ugly, and useless bitch. When it was done, she took me off the chain and I collapsed to the floor and everything went dark. I woke up in my cell, face down on my cot, with no shirt on. I tried to sit up and nearly shrieked in pain. I heard Doctor Miller, “Hold still, child. She used a silver claw whip on your tiny little back. Gabrielle snuck me down here.” I cried quietly, “She’s going to do this every day until my wrist is better.” He asked, “Why?” I replied, “Because I wasn’t supposed to see the doctor for my wrist. I’m only allowed to use the first aid kit in the kitchen.” He sighed, “Okay. I will make sure that first aid kit is stocked and put some extra stuff in it. Where is your room?” I answered, “It’s in the attic. Gabrielle knows where it is.” He gasped, “The attic?” I nodded. He added, “I’m going to put some medicines and other supplies under your bed too. When she lets you out of here, Gabrielle will be able to help you take care of your injuries. I’m putting some protein bars under your mattress in your bed and in here. If Luna doesn’t feed you, I want you to eat one of these. Just put the wrapper back under your mattress. Okay?’ I nodded, “Thank you, Doctor Miller.” He wiped my tears for me and I could see a tear fall from his eyes. He kissed my forehead then moved my hair out of my face, “I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I will try to come back later.” I nodded as he left.

I tried to stay awake, but the pain was so bad, I couldn’t stay conscious. Everything went black once again. Before I knew it, Luna Kate was back and slapping my back. I jerked awake and looked at her, holding back my screams and tears. She growled, “Your food is on that stool. Eat.” I sat up and looked at the tray. It was a peanut butter sandwich and a carton of milk. I opened the sandwich and found a razor blade under the bread. I looked up at Luna Kate and she sneered, “You don’t trust me?” I replied, “I was looking to see if it had jelly on it. I don’t like jelly.” I removed the blade and took a bite of the sandwich. I opened the carton of milk and smelled it. It didn’t smell bad, so I took a sip. I finished the sandwich and the milk and stood with my head bowed. She took the tray and turned to walk out of my cell. She turned to me, “Get sleep while you can, runt. You have two days until doc takes that cast off and you will start your chores again.” She walked out of the dungeons and let the door slam shut.

I sat back down on my bed and realized I didn’t have another shirt to put on. I was cold, but it hurt to put that blanket on my back. I knew laying on my back was going to hurt too, so I laid on my side and tried to keep the blanket off my back, but I covered the rest of me. I really hoped she wouldn’t come back to whip me again. I didn’t know if I could take any more of it. It hurt so bad. The silver claws on the whip took chunks of flesh out of my back and it was not healing like it should.

As I laid there shaking from being cold and from the pain, I fell into a deep sleep. As soon as I was out, I saw a bright white light and knew it was the Moon Goddess. I smiled, “Hi! I’m so happy to see you. Are you here to take me out of this?” Selene lowered her gaze, “I’m sorry, child. I know you are hurting and you are so strong. I do not want to take you out of this. All of these trials are needed for your future. I’m very sorry. I can promise that I will strengthen you so that you can continue to endure it. If you will continue to endure the trials, you will be rewarded greatly.” I asked, “How long will this go on?” She sighed, “I’m sorry. I can not tell you that.” I asked, “Can you at least heal my back a little bit so that I can cover up with the blanket to stay warm?” She laid her hand on my back and shed a tear as she looked at my injuries. The tear landed on my back and skin formed over the open areas. She explained, “The Luna will probably whip you again if you don’t continue acting like you are still hurting.” I sighed, “I understand.” She smiled, “You are so calm. Your parents did a very good job raising you.” I cried, “They didn’t get to finish.”

The Moon Goddess placed her hand on my shoulder, “It’s okay, child.  I will be here for you. You only need to call on me. Just know that I will not appear in front of anyone else, unless it’s an emergency. If Luna is on the verge of killing you, I will appear only to you to help you get through it. Do you know how to mind link?” I nodded, “I do. My mom taught me.” She smiled sweetly, “Good job.” She produced a dagger and placed a cut on her hand, “I, Selene, The Moon Goddess, invite you, Isabel Claw, offer you a permanent link to my mind.” She held out her hand and I placed mine, palm up, for her to cut my hand. She placed the cut on my palm, then I turned my hand over to let our blood mix. I immediately felt a wave of warmth flow through me. I smiled as she promised, “All you have to do is send me a mind link when you need me. If you tell me you are cold, I will send some of my warmth to you through the link. If you need help getting through another beating, call me through the mind link. I can’t stop it, but I can take some of the pain.” I sighed in relief, “Thank you.” She kissed my forehead and tucked me in like a mother should, “Sleep, child. You should be able to rest easy for the rest of the night. You only have two days left before the doctor will come to take your cast off and you will have to go back to work. I will be with you, no matter what.” I yawned, “Goodnight, Moon Goddess.” She chuckled, “Goodnight, child.”

I slept so well, I almost didn’t hear the door to the dungeons open and shut. I heard heavy footsteps and gasped when I heard his voice, “So you think you can have me removed by the council?” I furrowed my brows and asked, “I’m sorry, Alpha, I don’t know what you are speaking of.” He opened the door and smacked me so hard that I fell to the side. I refused to cry, so I just sat up, keeping my gaze low. He continued growling, “I have the council coming to question me about you.” I responded, “If you can keep from putting more bruises on me, I will talk with them when they get here and tell them you treat me well.” He asked, “What is your trick?” I shook my head, “No trick. I just don’t want more trouble. That’s all.” He chuckled, “You are smart for such a small kid.” I answered, “My parents started teaching me things as soon as I was able to understand. I’ve been reading since I was three.” He nodded in understanding, “If they speak with you, you will tell them that we treat you well. I do not know when they will be here.”

He turned and walked back out of the dungeons.

I sat up on my cot, hugging my legs, wrapped in my blanket until I heard the door open and quiet, gentle, footsteps were walking toward me. I saw Gabrielle walking toward me with a tray in her hands. She had the key to my cell in one hand and a breakfast tray in the other hand. As she walked into my cell, she placed my tray on the bed and sat on the stool, “Don’t eat the biscuit. It has wolfsbane in it. It’s poison.” I gasped, “Why would they do that to me?” She explained, “I saw Luna Kate talking with Ayame in a corner of the kitchen. I’m sure the two of them are making sure you don’t get better.” I giggled, “The Moon Goddess beat them to it.” Gabrielle furrowed her brows, “What?” I giggled as I turned around to show her my back. She gasped as I felt her touch my back, “How did you heal so fast? You don’t have your wolf yet.” I answered, “The Moon Goddess healed me. I’m trying to act like it still hurts when Alpha or Luna come down.” She shook her head, “You are very special, Izzy. Y

It has been five years since my parents were killed. It has been five years since I was brought to this hell hole called the pack house. It has been five years of constant abuse; constant broken bones, constant lashes with either the silver dipped whip or the whip with the silver claws. I’ve been in the dungeons so many times that I have become friends with the guards in there. They smile after Alpha or Luna leave. They talk with me and joke around with me. They can’t stop what the Alpha and Luna do to me, but they do help me when they are ordered to hit me. I make the small noises that I make when the Alpha and Luna hit me while they crack the whip against the floor or in the air. I love them like brothers and they take care of me while I’m in the dungeons. They also make sure I don’t eat or drink wolfsbane. I also have another secret. I have been whipped and cut with silver so much that I am now immune to it. When I am in the dungeons, Alpha and Luna come down to whip me and Ayame c

I knew I couldn’t get through tonight without something happening. Tasha growled in my head, “Tell her to get out. She’s nothing.” I turned my attention to Ayame, “It’s none of your business. I wasn’t doing anything but getting some fresh air. That’s all.” She looked at me suspiciously, “Why would I believe that?” I explained, “I couldn’t sleep. Sometimes a walk helps me sleep. I don’t get to go outside during the day. I’m always too busy or I’m in the dungeons.” She shrugged, “Got it.” I asked, “Can I go to bed now? I’m really tired.” She stood up and walked toward me, “I’ll just find out from Gabrielle what you were doing. I know you weren’t meeting a man.” I furrowed my brow, “Ew. Gross.” Ayame laughed, “There is my answer to that. I guess I will take your word for it.” She walked out of the attic and I went to my bed and looked at it. I started looking around while Tasha was growling, “I don’t trust that bitch.” I answered, “I agree. Can you lend me your sense of smell to see if th

The next morning, I got dressed and ran downstairs. When I got to the foyer, there were two guards waiting there for me. I let myself smile at them because they were the guards from the dungeons. We got in an SUV and Doug, one of those guards, drove while the other guard, Andrew, rode in the passenger seat while I rode in the back seat. As soon as Doug drove away from the pack house, I smiled widely, “I almost missed you guys! How are you?” Andrew turned to Doug and laughed, “I love how she waited until after we were away from the pack house to start acting like herself.” Doug replied, “I think it’s sad that she can’t be herself or even happy in the house that she lives in.” I sighed, “I can be happy in my room or when I’m alone.” Andrew looked at me, “But it’s sad the Alpha and Luna won’t let you be happy all the time. You’re a good kid. You deserve to be happy.” I gushed, “Aw, thank you. You know what’s really sad?” Doug asked, “What?” I laughed, “That the dungeon guards are the only

It has been two years since I started cooking for the pack and Luna and Alpha have started keeping wolves from other packs from seeing me. Luna has been more verbally abusive than physically. Every time Alpha starts to grab my wrist to beat me, Luna stops him, “She can’t cook if she’s hurt.” I guess they like my cooking that much. When I asked Luna about blackberry bushes, she told the gardener to plant some. After the first time I made bread, Luna makes sure I have all of my ingredients all the time now. She also makes sure I have plenty of fruit for my cobblers and muffins. She has instructed that I keep muffins all the time now. She has Ayame and Gabrielle wrap them individually when I’m at school. Gabrielle has told me that Ayame keeps getting mad that she is cleaning up after me. When an Alpha from another pack comes, I have to take the day off school to cook dinner for that night, then run to my room and stay there until morning. Then I have to get up super early and make a big

It has now been four years since Ayame sliced me. The school counselor shocked Andrew and me by showing up and letting me take the exam to finish school early. I did ace it and earned my high school diploma two years early. I am still being beaten by Alpha and Luna, they are just keeping my hands, legs and face free of bruises. When pack members try to throw punches, I dodge and defend myself. They try to tell Luna on me and they are met with silence. Luna does not interfere either way anymore. Most days, I am cooking with broken or bruised ribs. Three days ago, they punctured one of my lungs and had to send me to the hospital. I was in the hospital for two days and got out, thanks to Tasha healing me. They tortured Ayame for what she did to me, but I guess the lesson didn’t stick. She did the same thing a year later. Alpha executed her that time. I guess you don’t get between Alpha and his food. Tasha was shocked that they did that, but she also made sure to tell me they weren’t doin

I turned seventeen two months ago and found out that no one in this pack is my mate and I am so happy for that. Although Luna Kate was quite disappointed. After all, if my mate had been in this pack, I could’ve kept cooking for them. I just wouldn’t be a slave anymore. They wouldn’t be able to hurt me anymore. The problem with that is the fact that I wouldn’t want to work for them anymore. I’m happy that my mate will be able to take me away from here. Now I just need to make sure he can find me, somehow. Tasha smiled in my head, “All you have to do is be around. He will scent you and be drawn to you.” I sighed, “I hope so. Hopefully, Luna won’t keep me hidden when there is company coming.” Tasha laughed, “Lady, don’t you know that your scent is all over this house?” I laughed, “I guess I need to walk around the house some more.” She grinned, “I was hoping you’d say that.” I started making my chipotle sauce for sub sandwiches and then started gathering the ingredients for them. After a full week and a half of total chaos in the pack house, I am really ramping up on trying to get my stuff together for the ball. Today is the day I get to go to the farmers market and I am so excited. I know I will be guarded; I just wonder who will be doing the guarding. After breakfast was done and dishes were washed, I went to my room and dressed in a sundress that Gabrielle had given to me for my birthday. I brushed my hair and grabbed my wallet and ran downstairs. I went to Alpha Ben’s office and knocked on the door. When I heard, “Come in, Isabel.” I walked in and smiled, “Alpha, I’m ready to go to the farmers market for the ball. Would it be possible to get the cash for the vegetables?” He nodded as he opened a desk drawer, “Here is two hundred dollars. Will that be enough?” I raised my eyebrows, “I am sure that will be enough. I would like to show you that my wallet is empty before I put the cash in it. When I get back I will make sure you get all of your change back.” He

It has now been twenty years since that awful day. We have had so much happen since then. Kenny took his rightful place as Alpha of the Red Moon Pack when he was eighteen and Kyle took his place as Beta of Cold Springs pack at the same age. Kyle met his mate, Kelly, when an Alpha from another pack brought his family to visit the pack. This is common practice when an alpha wants his daughter to find her mate. They had a boy and a girl and we are so happy to be grandparents! Kenny hasn’t found his mate yet, but I’m sure he will. He is about to go overseas for a summit with a wolf pack in Russia. There is really no point in an alliance with that pack, because it would serve no purpose. We wouldn’t be able to provide aide in a timely manner and we wouldn’t be able to invest to be able to see where the money is going. I have a feeling he is just going to see if his mate is there and I am very happy he’s at least trying to look. Andrew stepped back from his duties as Co-Alpha and built a h

Five years later, I had just given birth to my sixth, and final, child. My son, Ace, may be the youngest, but he is an Alpha through and through. He was a huge baby, weighing fourteen pounds, six ounces and he was twenty-four inches long. It seemed like giving birth to him took forever! He’s a sweet boy, but very impatient. He does love having his butt pounded and being rocked roughly though… just like his brothers and sisters. He started sleeping through the night at one week old and nearly scared me to death. I got no sleep that first time. I was up every hour, checking to make sure he was still breathing and listening to his heartbeat. He has been doing everything earlier than his brothers and sisters. He’s the chubbiest little boy I have ever seen and I giggle each time I see him laugh. Yes, he is one month old and already laughing. I mean laughing so hard his fat rolls jiggle and I love every second I get to see him do it. So do all of my other children. Kenny and Kyle are in sch

The next morning, Joshua and I went to the doctor and found out that I am only one month pregnant, so there is plenty of time. It also looked like there was only one this time, so I was grateful for that. When we left the clinic, Joshua took me to his car, “Get in. I need to show you something.” I got in the car and I giggled as I watched my big, burly mate nearly skip to the driver’s side of our car. When he got in and started the car, he was almost giddy as he started driving. I laughed, “You are acting like a kid with a huge present in front of him.” He laughed, “I can’t wait for you to see this.” We were only on the road for ten minutes and we pulled into the driveway of a house that looked exactly like the house we had designed. It had a huge, fenced-in yard and the house had a Victorian design with lots of windows, curves, and a beautiful porch with a porch swing. I smiled, “This is really pretty. It looks like the house we designed for our family.” He smiled, “Because it is the

Six months later, my little girl was already starting to learn sign language from one of the pack members in Cold Springs Pack. Her name was Lindsay, and she recently moved to the pack in order to accept a teaching position at the new school. When she heard that Jessica was an oracle, she offered to teach her sign language so she could have the ability to communicate her visions. I paid Lindsay extra for the lessons, because she was teaching me, Luna Jessie and our mates at the same time. That extra ability to communicate was invaluable for all of us. We didn’t expect our boys to be so comical about it though. Once in a while, Kenny would try to get Jessica going by standing between me and Jessica while she tried to sign to me for something. I would shake my head at him, chuckling, while he tried to sign back to her, making random movements with his hands. She would get so frustrated she would start yelling, “MA!” I laughed out loud and asked, “What do you need, sweetie? Is brother ma

Joshua and I slept like rocks that night. The next morning, I had to laugh. Joshua asked, “What’s so funny?” I laughed, “I can remember a time when a night away from the kids caused us to get horny as hell. Now we get sleepy.” He laughed, “I guess we need more than one night in a row. One night to catch up on sleep the next night to catch up on each other.” I smiled, “I like that idea. We will have to remember that for next time.” He smiled, “I think we need a weekend away at the enchanted cabin. Just the two of us.” I smiled as I felt his arms snake around me and a kiss on the back of my neck, “I think we need to make that happen soon. For now, we need to go find out what Jada found out.” He reluctantly agreed, “Sometimes, responsible parenting is the biggest cock-blocker.” I sighed, “But it’s worth it. Don’t even try to say different.” He chuckled, “You’re right. These kids are our biggest blessings. I would just really like to try for more.” I laughed, “We can do that any night, aft

That evening, we were in the dining room, eating dinner with all of Red Moon Pack. After everyone was done eating, I stood up and waited for the room to quiet. When I had everyone’s attention, I spoke up, “Red Moon Pack, I’m so happy to be back with all of you and so is my family. As you all know, our daughter was born. Her name is Jessica Marie. I have something to tell you about her that I need to keep within the pack. She is an oracle. I need all of you to keep this information about her in the pack. If word got out, it would set a target on her and our pack. There are still alphas who would use her abilities for nefarious purposes. Are we all in agreement with that?” I heard the whole pack agree, “Yes, alpha!” I continued, “Now, your alpha heir would like to make an announcement, then I will clarify it.” I watched as Matthew and Joshua stood Kenny and Douglas on the table. Kenny put his arm over Douglas’ shoulder and puffed out his chest. He yelled, “My beta, Douglath!” Everyone l

Two months later, Cold Springs Pack was really starting to transform. The school buildings, the rec center and the Jo-Ann Fabrics store were all being built at the same time. The roads leading to each had been created and parking lots for each had been cleared. I had the franchise agreement signed within a week, because I was able to pay all franchise fees for a term of ten years up-front. When they had that much money offered to them, they couldn’t refuse. Jessica started sleeping all night at one month old and Joshua and I couldn’t have been happier about it. I sometimes wondered if she had already started having visions, because she was waking up so much more than our boys did. There was no way to tell if she was. Joshua and I decided that we needed to go down to Red Moon Pack for a couple of days, just to introduce her and have our pack meeting about her. I know that since we already had two oracles in the pack, it won’t be a big issue for Red Moon to keep her abilities to themsel

Joshua’s back stiffened instantly so I started rubbing comforting circles on his back to help him chill out before he answered. Joshua linked, “Thank you, love. I needed that.” Then he turned to the man and replied, “A gifted wolf of any kind makes a pack much stronger. They are highly sought after by alphas with nefarious intent. An oracle has the ability to see into the future from a very early age. Our daughter will be training at Red Moon Pack with a couple of my mate’s cousins to learn how to deal with the things she sees and what to do with them.” The man lowered his gaze, “I’m so sorry, Beta Joshua. I didn’t mean to sound bitter, but Alpha said he would take questions after the meeting, but with all the other excitement, he probably just forgot. Your secret is safe with me. One week later, Alpha Matthew called a mandatory pack meeting for all pack members. Joshua and I had decided to eat dinner in the dining room with our children this evening, so that we could make it to the meeting. We were bombarded with pack members constantly walking up to us and gushing over all of our kids. Joshua waited until no one else was around us and leaned into me, “This is what happens when we don’t eat with the pack regularly.” I sighed, “Okay. I get it. Should we eat down here a couple nights a week?” He replied, “That might not be a bad idea. It may get to be a bit much for you to cook after you work in your office all day. Especially with these three, if you aren’t going to use the daycare.” I sighed, “I want all of our kids to learn by example. They will learn what a co-beta does and what a beta does by watching us. I think that’s really important. I would also like our girls to spend time watching Jessie too. Some of our girls may end up being luna.” Josh laughed, “
