Chapter 4

For the fifth time, I rolled on my bed and opened my eyes. The steady sound of water filled my ears. Charlie was still in the bathroom, been there since 4:59 am and now 5:25 and she's still scrubbing the flesh off her body.

It reminded me of Bea. When Bea takes over the bathroom how long do you wanna wait? 1 hour, a month, a year? You got it!

Back at Lake George, we all shared one bathroom; mom, dad, Bea and I. The memories of 'those days' aren't worth keeping.

Bea's habit of just randomly wasting time on anything then just always provides me with an excuse when I need one and I get someone to blame for it. For Instance, when mom asks why I still haven't had my bath, I could just easily say "Bea's been in the bathroom the whole day " That excuse has worked for years and it still works because Bea... she's just something else. Mom tries every time to talk to Bea about it but of course, a leopard doesn't change its skin neither would Charlie if she remains there scrubbing away.

Day 2 at Edwin and Co as the good girl and I think I just might survive in this jungle enough to surprise mom with a clean sheet of no detentions and bad records. At least I saw some students who looked friendly, Charlie introduced me to a few of her friends and they were kinda cool.

"You awake now? ". Charlie's voice was dimmed because of the running water.

"Since forever ", I mumbled, sat up on my bed and started undressing.

Charlie turned off the water and came out of the bathroom completely naked and wet like an albino rat, not something new to me but rather strange since she's a stranger to me. " Lord, I just love the bathroom!". She shivered a little.

"So hard to notice " I mumbled under my breath.

"Yeah. My mom thinks I'm dirty though, I'll give her some credit though because I can be a bit disorganized sometimes," she shrugged "She just doesn't understand that I'm not just standing under the shower doing nothing, I'm like trying to get myself clean"

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. She didn't even know I was being sarcastic.

I rolled over and got up to go to the bathroom. The bathroom floor was tiled and extremely cold. It kind of amazed me how hot it was yesterday and then I woke up this morning to an extremely cold room, I had to get up during the night to get some socks from my bag.

As I turned on the shower hot jets stung my skin, sending warmth to the frozen parts of my bones, thawing the stiff joints. I started humming a song, Blu. How I love that song even though I still don't know half the lyrics. At least it was able to drive off the worries of a new day in my new school where I will be taught new lessons. But as the thoughts of school fell to the back of my mind Mark filled the void space they left.

Mark and our last time together, the day I promised mom to become a better person. Mark and I actually laughed about it but I knew he appreciated the change. He never came out to condemn me nor did he say anything about my life as the badass of school but I knew he would have wanted me to be more acceptable, especially to his parents, it's kind of rare to find guys who wouldn't want to change a thing about you. Not everyone tolerated me, even elderly people had little to no tolerance for me. Seriously, the only old people who ever liked me were grandma and grandpa and I don't even think they were really proud of me.

"I love this skirt," I said as I pulled at the corners of the plaid-white skirt.

"You would hate it soon enough. Just wait till a strong wind blows and lifts it" Charlie said with a roll of her eyes.

I tucked the shirt into the skirt and swung my blazer over it. It looked pretty smart... And sexy too.

That's exactly why I love it because the skirt is short and exactly the kind of thing I would wear if I wanted to seduce Mark.

"What are you thinking about? You've got this satisfied look on your face and I'm scared " Charlie commented studying my face.

My face actually became hot with embarrassment. A rare character in me, I am starting to get the hang of the good girl shit.

"Still loving the skirt " I lied.

" Yeah, right. Whatever, we need to be in the dining for breakfast. I don't think I will be eating but I suppose you might want to." she lifted her black school bag on her shoulders and opened the door.

The sound of Morning Morning rang throughout the hostel walls and students in identical uniforms greeted one another.

"Don't be deceived not all the greetings are genuine " Charlie whispered.

"How do you know that? " I asked.

"Not only the seniors are bad you should see what some juniors do around here ".

The doors opened as we reached them and the cold morning air that smelled of rain hit me right in the face. From afar off I could see curly-haired head flanked by her friends walking along the road to the school building. My first enemies in nothing less than 24 hours.

"You got your locker and keys? " Charlie asked.

I dangled the keys in front of her "Got them"

From the side of my eyes in the dim lightening of the road I saw someone trying to catch up with us, a slender almost painfully thin girl with a mass of dark brown curls. I imagine a soft wind blowing her off.

She smiled wide and waved, "Charlie, whose the new friend? " she asked in a high voice.

"Jessica Underwood. Senior, Class 2". She glanced at me "Don't worry Zoe here is harmless, she was the constant butt of the Bad Boys Club "

"I'm more worried about blowing her away with my breath " I mumbled softly so that only Charlie could hear. She laughed and so did Zoe.

"You run your mouth a little too fast," Charlie laughed.

"Well, I can't help it. It's gotten me into trouble more times than I can count"

"Well, I hope you can use it well when trouble indeed comes knocking".

The sky brightened as we walked and my eyes adjusted till I saw a group of people ahead. They were walking in groups of two's and three's, all bigger than the guys I saw during dinner yesterday.

"Who are those? " I asked pointing in their direction.

"Oh, those are the seniors in their final year. In a matter of months, they would have their valedictory and leave " Zoe answered.

"I didn't see any of them yesterday "

"That? Yeah, it's because they don't live in the same hostel quarters with us." Charlie answered this time "The reason being their years as animals are over and this time before their valedictory they want to become responsible. It was Mr. Edwin's idea to have the final year seniors in a different hostel so they can concentrate on their final exams. They live in apartments."

Nice piece of information. More senior privileges

We all trooped into the dining which smelled better than it did yesterday. The air conditioners were off. This time our food was already set on the tables in piles. There was bread and small tubes of butter and peanut butter. Everyone sat on their tables, acting mature and well mannered - a totally different thing from what happened yesterday. The girl who had been eating from her head was even on our table and she ate from the table with such great manners a queen would envy. The whole place was so freaking quiet. It was strange considering the noise throughout dinner yesterday, the noise in the hostel that almost didn't make me sleep.

"Why is everyone so quiet and good today? " I whispered almost afraid of breaking the peace.

"Look over there " Charlie responded. I looked at where she was pointing at where a tall dark with a crew cut boy stood with a slim, short, elegant girl with short dark hair chin-length hair. Their eyes seemed to be moving from table to table as if to pick out the trouble makers should there be any trouble. They almost looked like teachers to me but their uniforms told me otherwise.

"Who are those ?"

"Head boy Martin Sanchez and that's the head girl Annabel Reed "

"You had those and the whole place was in chaos yesterday? " I asked incredulously. In response, Charlie threw me a sidelong glance but turned back, pulled out her notes from her bag and began to write what I think was an assignment.

I ate only a single piece of bread while some people on our table kindly stuffed their faces with the remaining bread.

"Are you done eating? Let's go ".

Charlie pushed back her chair with a soft scrap and I did the same. The head prefects turned their attention to us and I almost had to walk in a single row of tiles to keep from stepping on my own feet.

I tried to smile as we passed them, I don't know but something about them just screamed business. The head boy smiled back at me while the head girl barely nodded.

"Welcome to school," the head boy said.

At least someone noticed me.

I hate to think how these seniors were able to control this mass of animals living under the guise of human flesh.

"That's incredible," I said out loud.

"What? That there is so much order this morning? You don't want to know what those seniors were in their second year. I experienced it and trust me they have come a long way. It comes with the territory, your first five years you're rowdy and free and wild but in your last year you suddenly become a different person "

"So we are going to have new prefects? "

"Everyone already seems to know who the next prefects would be. There's Tyler Edwin as head boy and Heather Greene as the head girl" Charlie clucked her tongue "I hate to think what those two would do as prefects! "

"You must hate them to say that" I mumbled.

She rounded on me "Hate them?! I wish there was something stronger than the word hate! ". It actually looked funny that she was glaring at me, looking up into my face like a child. It never gets old when people have to tilt their chin to glare at me. I almost wanted to pat her head and shoo her off like a baby.

She blinked, bit her lower lip then slumped her shoulders "Anyway have you decided what sports you would like to join? "

How the hell does she do it?! She just changes a topic with the snap of a finger-like the previous topic never existed, it was kind of unpleasant and scary!

She was looking impatient and I got the feeling my thoughts were written all over my face.

"I'm waiting! "

"Uh...Is that necessary? "

"Yes, it is. It's a boarding school. Sometimes we have games on Saturday instead of just sitting in our rooms bored to death, everyone participates in something. We just finished with a game of volleyball when you came on Saturday "

"So like I HAVE to play a sport? ".

Charlie shrugged, "A lot of people play more than one sport though while a few others make it to the cheerleading team. You can try out today during lunch, it's the only escape from sports "

"Are you a member of it then? " I asked wanting to know what I was putting myself into.

"What do you think? "

"Ok, I'll think about my choices."

Suddenly a siren rang throughout the school, screaming inside my head like whoever pressed it had found a way through my head to installed it there.

"What the fuck is that?! " I yelled trying to shout through the noise. Charlie didn't even act like she was bothered by the sound, she calmly turned around and started walking faster.

"It's time for assembly ", she said over her shoulder.

Sure enough, as soon as she said it the whole school emerged from the dining pouring out in groups, heading towards our direction. It almost looked like a group of soldiers marching into the battlefield.

But wait a minute! Assembly?!

I joined Charlie as she marched to the school quarters. She stepped into a huge building with rows and rows of chairs with seats covered with blue suede clothes, there was a high podium with a huge screen mounted on the wall. Doors were leading outside from each side of the building. Charlie moved to the second row and took a seat at the front and I sat on the one beside her. The rest of the students filed in later, filling every chair in the hall. They walked quietly but quickly, acting well mannered and responsible. The swish-swish of the uniforms was the only thing heard in the vast space of the assembly hall.

The head boy and head girl mounted the podium while the other Class 3 seniors moved to the back of the hall, some of them stood beside rows of seats to watch the students. I really couldn't believe these were the same students acting wild just yesterday! A few teachers entered the hall and stood by the door.

At the head boy's command, the school stood up and began to sing the national and school's anthem which was projected on the screen on the wall.

"We promise to be faithful to our badge.

We promise to be responsible students..... ", the school chorused. I almost had to bite my lips to keep from laughing out loud. Responsible?! '

"Schoolwork starts immediately after the assembly, " the head girl said in a no-nonsense voice after the anthems. "Students are expected to be responsible as promised by the school anthem. Any recalcitrant student would be severely punished" her cold eyes met mine and I shivered, they are that cold "We have a new student here with us, would Jessica Underwood come up here so the school can welcome her?".

I had a feeling it was a command. I had to try not to stumble on my own feet as I walked up to the podium.

The whole school said a welcome to me which should have been truly welcoming but I felt invisible eyes watching me. Those eyes didn't feel nice, they made my skin crawl but I stood still till the head boy clapped my shoulder and asked that I step down.

Whatever happened I was in for a long ride.

As we all filed out of the assembly hall I could see the views of the hallways which were exceptionally long especially since I was looking at them from the entrance of the assembly hall. Columns lined the edge of every hall and I could just imagine swinging on them like a stripper, literarily. The walls of everything I could see from my side were painted in the same cream color as the dining hall. Students had already left the hall but Charlie wanted me to get a good look at everything and savor what was going to be my 'home' for the next one and a half years. It was not bad, it was better than my former school back at Lake George. "You're kinda lucky, you know, you came in right when we had just a year left before graduation" "Yeah? If I had my way I would not be in any school at all" Charlie laughed shaking her head. Somewhere at the far end opposite us, a door banged and a man in white sleeves and grey trousers came out holding some books.

And for the first time, I became the prey. The hunter became the hunted and trust me this deer or rat or whatever animal I am in the eyes of the BBC (scoff) sucks for sure. I walked with my eyes constantly looking over my shoulders. I mean I needed to check just in case someone had the genius idea to spray some tomato juice or whatever on my skirt again. The good part though was the laundry services Charlie said the school used would be able to get the stain off. I decided to camp in the library during the break where not many students would be. From the bookshelves I found some novels to read and took them to a seat to read, four seats were arranged around square tables at almost every side of the room. I wasn't much interested in the books as I was in maintaining a low cover first so I could get my bearings again and plan the sweetest revenge. "Hey." The voice came from directly above me. I looked up at the person lowering himself on the seat opposite me.

“Okay, Jessica, what did you do to make Annabel so much on your case?” I shrugged. It was just after reading hours and I was too exhausted to even rant about the vampire-cold-blooded head girl, Annabel Reed. I dumped my bag on my bed and plopped on my bed. “If I didn’t know better I would say she had the hots for you?” Charlie said. She pulled the chair from her reading table and dropped her bag on it before sitting on her bed. “What do you mean?” “Rumor has it that she and Martin Sanchez are banging. Don’t know how true that is since they never act like they do. Besides the rumor was passed by the juniors who don’t even live in the senior quarters so how do they know?” I wrinkled my nose. Annabel and Martin? Nah, not likely. They were like two opposite poles. “I won’t wish her on Martin. I bet her kitty is as cold as she is. And no one likes cold kitty.” Charlie sat up with a mock expression of anger on her face. “Excuse me, I do love

My third period of the next two days was chemistry. Half of the second-year seniors moved towards the library. Charlie walked briskly beside me. I must be honest, I envy Charlie a lot. From what I’ve seen here in Edwin and Co the student system was divided into two, the popular students and the unpopular ones (these were prey to the popular ones). But Charlie, she was in a world of her own neither popular nor unpopular, she didn’t care what category she was anyway, she was herself without a care in the world for anything. She walked too fast for a short girl of 5’4. The lab was at the end of the hall and opposite it was what used to be the former lab although now it was used as a store of some sort. According to some rumors by the students in the hostel, it also served as a rendezvous for smooching and making out. Outside the lab was Ms. Elena the chemistry teacher and Mr. Denver the lab technician. “Two to each station, make sure your apparatus is complete,” Ms. Ele

I growled my frustration under my breath. I was sitting at my reading table with my chemistry report note in front of me, the sheets staring blankly at me with my pen tapping at the edge of my desk. It was the second day since our practical class and I still did not have a headway at understanding the question Christian and I were supposed to answer. The due date for the report wasn’t until tomorrow. I read the questions over and over. Find the concentration of your base with respects to moles and grams. How was I supposed to do that? Beside me, Charlie was sleeping. Somehow yesterday she had convinced Heather to solve their questions so she was done with her own report while I mulled over mine. She tossed on the bed and shot me an evil look. “If you don’t stop tapping that pen I swear I’ll grab it and break it in half,” she growled sleepily. “Sorry,” I murmured and sighed. “But Charlie can you not help me out here?” She tossed again and came to a half-sitting position. “I already

The road leading to the seniors’ quarters was lined with trees and streetlights and the road was tarred. Mr. Edwin definitely put a lot of work into making the life of the final-year students a memorable one. There were flowers and even a drive that held a few cars and after the drive was a red gate. There were no guards but there was a buzzer on the wall which I pressed. A few seconds later I heard a click and a small part of the gate was thrown open, the sound of loud music nearly deafened me. “Yeah?” It was the sports prefect Johanna. She cocked a brow and from the dull look in her eyes, I could tell she was drunk. She swayed from side to side. “I need to see Annabel Reed.” She staggered and stepped back. “Sure, come on in.” As I stepped through the gates I was shocked at what I saw. The first thing that caught my attention was the large swimming pool that took up the entire front yard, it was lined with black tiles which were wet. There were some seniors in the pool splashing

“You didn’t say Heather was in charge of the cheerleading team,” I threw a death look Charlie’s way. She had the good sense to look guilty for omitting that one piece of information. “I knew if I told you you wouldn’t want to join again.” I rolled my eyes at her but followed her down the bleachers to the race tracks where Heather, Dahlia, and Lola stood with the rest of the cheerleaders. Heather was holding a clipboard and was writing something on it with a marker while Dahlia and Lola were speaking to some of the cheerleaders. Heather looked up from the board and started to speak when she saw Charlie and me. She narrowed her eyes at Charlie and huffed. “Forge, I thought I told you never to show your face here again? First, you’re short, and second, you peep under our skirts.” She turned to the group of cheerleaders who were now looking our way. “Watch out guys it’s the Skirt Peeper again, be sure to hold your skirts with both hands while doing a flip.” That was an insult to Charli

Hi there, So this is the end of Bad Boys Club. Thank you so much for supporting this book. I actually started this book a long time ago and it has taken two years to finally finish it. Along the way of writing , however, my creative juices kept flowing but I didn't want to make this book too long the I realized that I could do a sequel to this book by focusing on the characters lives after graduation from Edwin and Co. And if you noticed they are a lot of openings for that, for example, Christian's live story and Tyler's full story along with his dad's connection to Heather and Christian. Also, I will be focusing on Tyler, Heather and Charlie's relationship. So the sequel will focus on their lives years after graduation. I may not be able to start the sequel this year since I have a lot of other books I'm working on but in the near future I will be releasing so stay tuned. Anyways, thanks a l

The junior class 3 outdid themselves with the creative decorations they put up in the dining hall. The light bulbs they put up displayed a variety of colors all over the dining floor. The tables and chairs had been moved aside to allow for open dancing space. Streamers and balloons were hanging from window corners and even from some of the ceiling fans. At one side of the dining was a bar that was set up using the excess drinks rolled out by the outgoing senior class 3 and Jake Newman and some other guy I didn’t recognize served drinks to people. There was also a buffet with a variety of goodies and some of the first and second-year juniors occupied this table as they helped themselves to the food spread out. At the entrance of the dining was a huge banner that read “Happy Graduation!!!” Charlie and I scanned the hall. Charlie wore form-fitting slacks with an open-neck long-sleeved shirt and low heels. She and Tyler came up with the idea to dress the exact same way for whatever reaso

“I appreciate everyone who has taken the time out of their busy schedules to attend our 10th graduation ceremony. It gives me great pleasure…” Mr. Jorge, ever the simp went on and on about what achievements patrons of the school have done, he talked about Mr. Maximilian’s efforts in contributing to the welfare of the staff and students, he spoke highly of the graduating students, you know, all that good stuff we already knew. The majority of the students weren’t even listening to his speech but the parents were because that’s what you do when you grow up, get married, and have kids, you listen to speeches because they become interesting to you in your old age. After praising Mr. Maximilian to the skies he invited the graduating students to the podium for the presentation of their certificates. Looking at them walk orderly and with an aura of maturity around them, it was hard to tell that these year 3 seniors were the same who once threw parties and staggered drunkenly behind the close

“I can’t believe we need a graduation assembly before the party.” Charlie and I were at the hostel laundry pressing our uniforms with hot irons, the pleats on my skirt were razor-sharp as requested by Miss Diana. She came to the hostel two nights after the conclusion of exams to announce the date for the graduation, not that we didn’t know already but her services as matron to the girls required her to give us the information we already knew about. The graduation ceremony for Edwin and Co. is done in two phases. First, the announcement of the achievements of the graduating students, the announcement of the new perfects, the head boy and girl speech, the principal’s speech and Mr. Edwin’s speech, followed by the presentation of certificates to the graduates. For this, all parents were invited but the after-party was strictly for the students. “We never had a graduation assembly at Lake George. “Time up,” Ms. Elena announced. “Leave your papers and apparatus on the table and move out. This is your final exam in senior year 2, what an amazing year it has been to teach you all.” Her words were heavy with sarcasm. Students stood up and left the lab one after the other. As soon as they left a cheerful noise erupted as the students of senior class 2 celebrated the completion of exams but Christian and I sat in silence. “Ward, Underwood collect the papers on each slab and bring them to me. When you’re done with that clean up the lab.” Without waiting a second Christian stood up and started picking the exam papers on one side and I did the same on the other side. In a few minutes, we finished with that and submitted the papers to Ms. Elena’s office. “Good,” she said eyeing Christian and me with curiosity. “Now you can clean up the lab until you both work off that tension between you.” Great, she noticed. “Yes ma’am.” We went out and began to rinse the conical flasks, test tube

Over the next week and the week after I had no chance to take Heather’s advice because of my exams. I studied hard with Charlie and let me tell you Charlie is a blessing when she explains difficult topics. Everyone should be blessed with a friend like Charlie Fudge who supports, loves, and looks out for her friends. I had expected her to prod me on what Heather and I talked about but she didn’t ask any questions, we simply moved on from it and went back to being friends and roommates but I know she hopes Heather and I come to an understanding soon. My new friendship with Tyler was also blossoming at a rather rapid pace. When he is not against you Tyler was quite the charmer. He is funny and his carefree lifestyle was just what I needed to deal with the pressure of exams and the knowledge that I would have to confront Christian one day. I guess they kind of balance each other, one is reasonable the other is wild and carefree. The perfect fit. “Do you know that the first time I met Christian, which was at the very beginning of our last junior year, he was studying,” she laughed again. “He’s too serious sometimes.” I tried to imagine a younger Christian bent over his book reading. It’s quite like him. Everything about him is contradictory; the intelligent bad boy who really doesn’t do any bad stuff. What secrets does he keep? Why does he have a wall built around himself? “Do you know how Tyler and Christian became friends?” I asked, mildly curious. “Not much, only that they knew each other years befo

Immediately they arrived the maid ushered Rachel into the study where Maximilian was waiting for her. Heather was taken to a separate room where a TV was turned on and a show was running. She wasn’t as interested in the show as she was in the ornaments that adorned the room. There were ceramic figurines of ballerinas, shepherds, and sheep on a shelf, polished bronze, and gold sculptures, and some beautiful paintings were arranged on the wall. The maid who brought her to the room appeared with a tray of juice and chocolate chip cookies that smelled delicious. As soon as
