Pretty close to you

She let out a soft sigh as she shifted slightly in her seat. "You don't have to say that. You don't owe me anything for forgiving you, okay?"

"Yeah..." I trailed off as I gazed downwards, allowing the silence to settle once again amongst us.

The clock on the wall ticked loudly throughout the room, causing us to become momentarily distracted from the conversation at hand as we stared at it, listening to the steady ticking sound as it seemed to echo throughout the otherwise silent room.

It wasn't until several seconds passed that we snapped out of our thoughts and glanced back up at one another. She gave me an almost apologetic smile as she reached her hand outwards, intertwining it with mine once again.

"How long has it been since the accident?" She asked softly, averting her gaze to stare at our interlocked fingers.

"Almost ten months. It's almost been nine, now, actually," I answered, my throat beginning to tighten slightly at the mention of my parents.
