Hiding something from you

When Irish realized that I wasn't going to continue our previous conversation, she simply smiled softly at me before placing her left arm on top of my shoulders and leaning her head against my shoulder.

We both remained quiet for several seconds before I finally spoke, breaking the comfortable silence between us once again. "Why are you crying?"

Her eyes widened as she pulled back from me and stared blankly ahead of her at the wall.

"Oh, that..." She sniffled quietly in response, wiping her tears from underneath her glasses.

"I don't know. I think I'm just tired, I suppose. It's kind of hard to explain. I just got emotional, I guess."

I gazed upon her tear stained face, noticing that it looked somewhat pained, as if she had been holding herself together for a while. Her eyes were red rimmed and swollen, and she appeared to be breathing heavily with every intake of breath.

She glanced at me again. I offered her a small smile in response before reaching over and placing my hand on top
