Terra
The entire penthouse was filled with the crème de la crème of werewolf society. Alphas from packs across the country had flown in to celebrate Nathan's 20th birthday and his official crowning as the new Alpha of our pack.
I felt completely out of place among all these powerful, glamorous people. As an orphan without a family, I didn't have the fine clothes or fancy upbringing like the other girls here. But Nathan never cared about any of that. He had always treated me as his equal, his best friend, and now, his girlfriend.
I glanced around nervously as I entered the party, hoping none of Nathan's snobbish relatives would give me a hard time tonight. A few of them shot me dirty looks, whispering behind gloved hands. They had never approved of Nathan's attachment to a poor stray like me. I lifted my chin, refusing to let their contempt shake my confidence. Nathan loved me, and that was all that mattered.
"Terra, you look beautiful!"
I turned to see Lily, Nathan's cousin, waving at me enthusiastically. She grabbed my hands, her golden curls bouncing with excitement.
"That dress is so elegant! And your hair, wow!" she gushed. I smiled, grateful for her kindness. At least one of Nathan's relatives didn't see me as trash.
"Thanks Lily," I said. "You look amazing too. That necklace is stunning on you."
She laughed. "Oh this old thing? I just threw it on. But you! This is a big night for you too, hon. Are you excited?"
I bit my lip nervously. "I guess so. I just hope I don't embarrass Nathan or anything."
Lily waved her hand. "Oh please, you could never! Nathan is so crazy about you. Everyone can see it. I always hoped you two would..." She trailed off, blushing a bit.
"Would what?" I asked.
"You know, become mates," she said in a hushed voice. "I know Nathan hasn't found his official mate yet but...I think you two would be perfect together."
I felt a flutter in my heart at her words. Becoming Nathan's mate was my deepest desire, one I hardly dared speak out loud. Werewolves naturally felt an instant soul bond when they met their one true mate. Nathan and I clearly hadn't experienced that, so I tried not to get my hopes up. But hearing Lily say she thought we'd make a good mated pair meant the world.
"That's really sweet of you to say," I told her, squeezing her hand. "Now come on, let's get a drink and celebrate your amazing cousin."
Arm in arm, we headed to the bar and grabbed two glasses of champagne. We cheered and took big gulps. The bubbles went straight to my head. Tonight called for alcohol, lots of it. This party marked the end of an era. After tonight, Nathan would officially be the Alpha, responsible for all 200 members of the Crescent Moon Pack. Our carefree youth was over. Everything would change now.
I downed another glass, trying to silence the worries in my head. Nathan catching my eye across the room and waved. He looked so handsome in his sleek black suit, his dark hair neatly combed for once. His green eyes, which always softened whenever he looked at me, now shone with affection. My heart skipped a beat.
"There's the guest of honor," Lily said. "I'm going to say hi. Are you coming?"
"In a minute," I said. "I think I need some air first."
"Of course. See you soon!" She gave me quick hug before scurrying over to Nathan. He embraced her warmly, laughing at something she said.
I slipped away to the balcony, breathing deeply as I gazed out over the twinkling city skyline. The night air chilled the heat from the alcohol, bringing welcome clarity.
Lean, manicured hands gripped the balcony beside me. I tensed, bracing myself.
"Well, if it isn't the Alpha's little charity case," a voice sneered. I turned to see Brittany, a slender blonde werewolf with icy blue eyes and a permanent scowl in my presence.
"Hello Brittany," I said dully.
"So you're still clinging to Nathan, I see," she continued. "Hate to break it to you honey, but once he finds his real mate, he'll drop you in a second. I give it a month, tops."
I clenched my jaw, refusing to let her see she was getting to me.
"We'll see," I said evenly.
Brittany let out a sharp laugh. "You don't actually think you have a shot, do you? Please. You're not even a member of the Crescent Moon pack. Just a stray mongrel Nathan took pity on as a child. No one wants a pathetic orphan like you in their pack."
Anger and shame boiled up inside me. I wanted to leap at her, sink my fangs into her skinny neck. But causing a scene would only make things worse.
"Excuse me," I muttered, pushing past her. I rushed back inside, her cruel laughter echoing in my ears. My hands shook with rage and hurt. "Get it together, Terra," I told myself harshly. "Don't let that spiteful witch ruin this night."
I grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and downed it one gulp. Liquid courage. Tonight I would hold my head high, proud to stand by Nathan's side.
A hush fell over the crowd as Nathan stepped up to the microphone on the small stage. His father, the current Alpha, stood beside him, chest puffed out. At last, the official transition ceremony was beginning.
"Welcome friends," Nathan's father, Marcus, boomed into the mic. "Thank you all for joining us on this momentous night. It is my great privilege as Alpha to host this ceremony bringing the Crescent Moon Pack into a new era."
Everyone clapped. Marcus went on describe Nathan's royal bloodline, his early signs of leadership, and the bright future ahead under his guidance. I took deep breaths, trying to calm my racing heart.
"And now I invite my son to join me," Marcus declared, opening his arms wide. "Nathan, come forth."
Looking proud and nervous, Nathan climbed the steps up to his father. Marcus placed both hands on Nathan's shoulders.
"Do you, Nathan, accept the mantle of Alpha, promise to guide and protect the Crescent Moon Pack, and lead us in wisdom and strength for all your days?"
Nathan's voice rang out clear and sure. "I do."
"Then by the power vested in my by the moon goddess, I hereby name you Alpha Nathan, leader of the Crescent Moon Pack!"
Howls and cheers exploded through the room. I found myself clapping and shouting along with everyone else, swept up in the electric joy pulsating around me. Nathan's grin shone bright as the moon as he accepted hugs and handshakes from the crowd.
Gradually the howls faded, and Nathan returned to the microphone. "Thank you all so much," he said, sounding a bit choked up. "It's an incredible honor to stand before you tonight as your Alpha. I hope I can live up to my father's example of strength, compassion and guidance. Marcus, you've prepared me well for this role, and I promise I will make you proud."
Marcus, looking equally emotional, gripped his son's shoulder and nodded.
Nathan took a deep breath before continuing. "There's one more thing I need to do before we get back to celebrating. Terra, can you come up here please?"
My stomach dropped. Why was Nathan calling me up on stage? A few whoops and whistles came from the crowd as I slowly walked up the steps, my knees threatening to buckle in my heels. Nathan extended his hand and helped me stand beside him. He kept holding my hand, his eyes never leaving mine. My heart hammered wildly. What was happening?
"Terra and I have known each other almost our whole lives," Nathan said, his voice softening. "She's been my closest companion, confidant, and cherished friend. Over the years, she's become even more. Which is why tonight, on the first night of my leadership..."
He got down on one knee, still clasping my hand in his. Gasps filled the room. I swayed, sure I must be hallucinating. This couldn't be real.
"Terra, would you make me the happiest wolf in the world by becoming my Luna?" Nathan asked, his voice cracking slightly. He pulled a small velvet box from his suit pocket and opened it, revealing a dazzling diamond ring.
For a moment the room spun, and I was sure I would faint. Me? Nathan's Luna? It was the stuff of my wildest dreams. But his warm expectant gaze held me steady. This was really happening.
"Yes!" I finally choked out through joyful sobs. "Yes, Nathan, I will be your Luna!"
The cheers were deafening. Nathan slid the ring on my finger before sweeping me up in his arms and kissing me deeply. I buried my fingers in his hair, kissing him back with all the passion I'd been holding back for so long.
When we finally broke apart, Nathan rested his forehead against mine, beaming in wonder. "We're getting mated!" he whispered. I laughed giddily.
"There's one more thing we need to make official," Marcus called out over the cacophony. The crowd quieted as Nathan and I turned to look at his father.
Marcus lifted his arms. "As Alpha, it is my honor to declare that this woman, Terra, shall hold the title of Luna and stand proudly at the side of her Alpha Nathan. Let it be known throughout the land!"
If I thought the previous cheers were loud, they were nothing compared to the thundering sound that shook the penthouse now. I was frozen in delighted shock as Marcus came forward and placed the ceremonial Moonstone necklace around my neck, signifying my new status as Luna.
"Thank you, sir," I said breathlessly. "I'm so honored."
He smiled and patted my shoulder. "You'll make a fine Luna, my dear." Turning back to the ecstatic crowd, Marcus raised his glass high. "To Alpha Nathan and Luna Terra!"
"To Nathan and Terra!" everyone echoed back.
The rest of the night passed in a blur of congratulations, toasting, drinking and dancing. I hardly had a moment alone with Nathan, but our eyes kept finding each other across the room, both of us still stunned by this incredible turn of events.
It was nearly 3am by the time the celebration finally started winding down. Tipsy guests gradually trickled out or passed out on couches. Nathan and I managed to escape up to his bedroom on the top floor of the penthouse.
As soon as the door closed behind us, Nathan pulled me roughly against him and brought his mouth down on mine. I melted into his kiss, my whole body burning for more. We tumbled down onto his massive bed, hands roaming urgently over each other.
Nathan paused and met my eyes questioningly, his breathing heavy. "Terra, my love, if you want to wait, I completely understand-"
I placed a finger over his lips. "I don't want to wait another minute," I whispered. I fumbled to undo the zipper on my dress. Nathan's eyes blazed with desire as I shimmied it off. Tonight, after all these years, I was finally giving myself to him completely, body and soul.
The rest of our clothes soon joined my dress on the floor. We took our time exploring each other, savoring the intimacy we'd both longed for. Every touch, every kiss was perfect.
As we finally joined together, tears of joy leaked down my cheeks. "I love you, Nathan," I breathed against his skin.
"I love you, Terra," he murmured in my ear. "My love, my Luna, my everything."
We eventually fell into blissful, exhausted sleep still wrapped in each other's arms. This night had exceeded my wildest dreams. The moon goddess had blessed me with my love, a home, a family. For the first time in my life, I felt like I truly belonged. As I drifted off, I sent up a prayer of thanks.
"Please, goddess, let us be this happy forever."
If only I had known what the next day would bring. I clung to him tighter, cherishing these last moments of peace, unaware of the storm about to rip my perfect world apart.
TerraI hummed to myself as I fried up bacon and eggs, the sizzling and popping of the oil providing a cheerful rhythm. Nathan's arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and he nuzzled into my neck."Smells delicious, babe," he murmured.I leaned back into his solid chest with a content sigh. "Only the best for the Alpha. Sit down, it's almost ready."We had been mated only two days, but it felt like we had always been together. I loved caring for Nathan, making sure he was well-fed and happy. Our small home glowed with newlywed bliss. As we ate breakfast, Nathan told me about the visiting Alpha couple from the Nightshade Pack he had to see off this morning. Important political obligations kept intruding on our honeymoon phase, but I didn't mind. I was proud to stand by my mate as he took on his leadership role."I wish I didn't have to rush off," Nathan said apologetically as he rinsed his plate. "But duty calls. Will you be alright on your own today?""Of course! Lily already invit

I plastered a smile on my face, willing myself to get through another shift."Welcome to Sunbeam Café, what can I get started for you?" I recited in a chipper tone. The man rattled off his order, oblivious to my inner misery. I nodded politely and got to work making his latte. Just six more hours until freedom.I still couldn't believe this was my life now—slinging coffee and pastries at Moonbeam Café in the tiny town of Willow Creek. A far cry from my days as Luna back home. Here, no one knew who I was or cared about my tragic fall from grace. I was just Terra, the quiet new girl who kept to herself. And that was exactly how I wanted it. After Nathan so cruelly chose his mate over me, I had shifted into wolf form and run until I collapsed, desperate to escape the excruciating heartbreak. Terra"How are you feeling today, Terra?" Dr. Collins asked kindly as I settled onto the exam table."Oh, you know. Queasy, sore, huge." I grimaced, placing a protective hand over my enormous belly. At eight months pregnant with triplets, even simple tasks like getting dressed felt Herculean.Dr. Collins chuckled. "The discomfort will be over soon. Just hang in there."I smiled gratefully. Over the past few months, Dr. Collins had become a true friend, guiding me through the hurdles of pregnancy with compassion. Our visits were the one bright spot in my otherwise dreary existence. After confirming my three boys were healthy and growing well, Collins walked me out. I winced as I heaved my bloated body off the table."Take it easy," Collins said, grasping my elbow to steady me. "No shame in asking for help.""I know. It's just hard feeling so useless and dependent."His brown eyes radiated understanding. "I can only imagine how challenging this is for you, Terra. But you're being incred
Terra"No running in the hallway!" I called as my three rambunctious boys came barreling out of the exam room, amber eyes shining with mischief. They continued thundering down the clinic's narrow hall, dodging nurses and patients. I shot an apologetic look to the elderly couple exiting the room after them."Luke! Levi! Landon! Freeze, now!" My "mom voice" finally got their attention. They skidded to a stop, lowering their heads guiltily.I fixed them with my best stern glare. "What have I told you about running wild in the clinic?""Sorry, Mom," Levi mumbled, scuffing his shoe. His brothers echoed apologies, unleashing their most pathetic puppy dog eyes. My resolve instantly crumbled. With a sigh, I knelt and held out my arms. "C'mere munchkins." They tumbled into my embrace, tangling me in a mass of gangly limbs. Despite the chaos my spirited wolf cubs created, I cherished these noisy group hugs. Their boundless energy and affection filled my days with light."Let's head to daycare n
Nathan"More wine, darling?" Jade purred, refilling my glass to the brim before I could respond. I took a long swallow of the bitter red liquid, avoiding her expectant gaze.Around us, the bustling pack solstice celebration faded into background noise. Ever the dutiful Alpha pair, Jade and I hosted this lavish annual gathering at our estate on the new moon. An excuse for unserious political talk and overindulgent feasting.Jade certainly embraced the bacchanal vibes, flitting around in a skimpy dress, encouraging overconsumption.I can't get what's wrong with her? NathanOne bleak evening, after a futile session trying to coax him to eat, I emerged red-rimmed and bleak only to find Jade waiting, flawlessly groomed as always. Her tapping foot signaled bad news brewing.Sure enough, she fixed me with a glare. "Going to explain where you've been all day? Not that you would even notice my absence."I sighed deeply, much too exhausted for another fight. "The healer was here for hours again. Father is...not improving. I need to be there for him now."Jade rolled her eyes. "Always dramatic excuses. You know I need you here representing the pack, not wasting time at your father's sickbed."Her callousness ignited my simmering temper. "He's your pack Alpha still, however convenient you find it to forget," I hissed through clenched teeth. "Show some respect.""Or you'll what?" Jade challenged, stepping closer. Sickly sweet perfume cloyed the air between us. "Face it, Nathan. You need me to play doting mate, keep this pack behind you. Where would you be o
NathanWhen evening brought no change, I reluctantly departed after Vera promised to alert me immediately if needed. My doubts about ruling alone without Father's wisdom threatened to overwhelm me as I hiked down the dim trail, but I forced them roughly aside. Self-pity helped nothing. I needed to be strong now for the pack's sake.Nearing the estate's sprawling grounds, I hesitated at the crossroads before turning toward the Alpha's private residence on the far grounds rather than the main house. The lavish space had always felt more mausoleum than home to me, empty and echoing. Now the cold marble walls would only magnify my desolation exponentially. But stepping through the cozy residence's carved oaken door brought no relief. Jade's cloying floral perfume permeated the front rooms. She had clearly stopped here earlier. YlYet never bothered coming to see me or Father. Nathan"How is he today?" I asked softly, resting a hand on Elder Vera's slumped shoulder. She shook her head wearily, face etched deep with lines of worry and grief. "The fever continues burning unchecked. His spirit dims further each time he wakes."I swallowed thickly, nodding. After months battling this mysterious wasting sickness, Father had finally taken a sharp turn last night, his stubborn vitality flagging. Now we raced against time to save him before the traditional remedies proved useless. But desperation made my next request no less distasteful. "Vera, please give us the room. I must speak privately with my father."Her expression clouded with concern. But she patted my hand in acquiescence before slipping away to grant us privacy. Father's rheumy eyes blinked open at her departure, wandering until they settled unsteadily on me. I settled gingerly on the bedside chair and clasped his limp hand in both of mine."Father, I'm so sorry to disturb your rest," I began gently. "B
TerraThe guards gave only cursory acknowledgment of my departure on foot, long accustomed to my moonlit ramblings when sleep proved evasive. For once Nathan's overprotectiveness played in my favour - he rarely sent escorts to trail my steps anymore, trusting the estate's security and my own combat expertise. As long as I returned before first light, I would attract no suspicion. The brisk autumn air helped clear the jumbled anxiety and anger churning through me as I slipped through the shadowy woods with directionless urgency. Crunching leaves and hooting owls soothed my restless spirit. Out here surrounded only by towering pines standing silent witness, the suffocating estate politics and posturing retreated some. I could breathe. But wandering aimlessly brought me no true peace. Terra"How about some fresh air, Alpha? A change of scenery could lift your spirits," I suggested gently.Nathan straightened from his slumped position in the chair by his father's bedside, alertness returning to his exhausted features. He scrubbed a hand roughly over his face before giving me a grim nod."You're right, of course. I've been cooped up here for too long. Will you sit with him a bit? I don't like leaving him unattended for long."I clasped Nathan's shoulder and offered an encouraging smile. "Of course. Take a decent walk to clear your head. Your father is resting well - I'll watch over him."Nathan's answering look held a world of unspoken gratitude. He had scarcely left the former Alpha's side since we brought him stabilised but still frail back to the estate from the city hospital. The ordeal had clearly taken an immense toll on Nathan's own health. But his stubborn devotion as guardian remained tireless. After Nathan departed with the last few instructions on medicati
But late one afternoon, Nathan reluctantly agreed to take a brief walk outside at my urging. The fresh air would restore his own depleted energy, and I could slip away for a few hours knowing the former Alpha rested stable and secure.I hastily scribbled a vague note about following up on a supply request since full transparency about my destination remained impossible for now.Nathan's hard-won trust felt too fragile to test with the truth. The knot of deception in my gut twisted sharply, but I forced myself out the door. I would unravel that tangled web later - right now my boys needed me.I took the winding forest backroads, windows down and hair whipping wildly around my face. The cool pine-scented breeze helped settle my frenzied thoughts as I neared the secluded valley town I now called home.Too soon the charming log cabin tucked against a hillside emerged into view, plumes of fragrant smoke already wafting cheerfully from the chimney. My heart swelled at the welcoming sight. I
.TerraAs the steady beep of the heart monitor filled the quiet hospital room, I let out a long breath. The former Alpha's condition had finally stabilised after days of touch-and-go uncertainty. Modern medicine had worked its magic under my and Collins' attentive care.Nathan kept vigil at his father's bedside, features softening almost imperceptibly in relief. No words were needed to express our shared hopes kindled anew. For now, the ever-present shadows had receded.I slipped outside to update Derek and Lianna, the estate's leadership needing assurance their beloved former leader was on the mend. Their stoic relief echoed my own churning emotions. Sleep could wait a bit longer. With the crisis tempering for now, my thoughts turned to the three bright souls I had missed dearly through this ordeal - my rambunctious boys. Collins' steady updates and photos had lifted my spirits, but nothing could replace holding them close.I decided I had earned a quick ride home to see my family.
NathanDawn's fragile light filtered into my quarters, At odds with the grim mood fogging my mind. I sat slumped at my desk, papers strewn half-finished. Thoughts kept drifting to my father's declining health, despite my best efforts to bury myself in Alpha duties. His condition plagued my steps like a shadow as I went through the motions of leadership. Reviewing land disputes and reports from allied packs now seemed meaningless formalities. Father's time grew short, and I was powerless to stop fate's cruel hand.A knock interrupted my brooding. I straightened as Derek entered, his assessing gaze missing nothing."You're looking rough, Alpha. Everything alright?"I forced a dismissive wave. "Nothing, some fresh air and exercise won't cure it."Derek's raised brow showed he saw through my deflection. But he simply briefed me on the day's tasks and packed matters requiring attention before departing. I envied his stoic focus. My thoughts roiled like stormy seas.As we walked to breakfas

Nearly nine o’clock already. After the long night attending to Nathan, I had slept like the dead.Speaking of Nathan, I should check in on his recovery. I slipped out from under the covers and shuffled over to peer out the window overlooking the central gardens.Sure enough, I spotted a familiar tall, broad-shouldered figure slowly pacing the graveled path below. Even injured, Nathan was never one to stay idle in bed.I shook my head in amusement and slight exasperation at his stubbornness. Each day brought me nearer to farewells I now dreaded making, despite resolve setting me on this course.A brisk knock interrupted my gloomy thoughts. At my call to enter, Derek stepped inside. I frowned slightly, registering his stiff posture and concerned frown. Something more than routine summons had brought him here."My apologies for disturbing you, Miss Terra." Derek ran a hand through his cropped hair, seeming uncharacteristically agitated. "But your...assistance...is required rather urgently."I tensed, chest constricting.
