Azalea had decided to stop running from her past. That didn't mean that she was ready to embrace her future though. As if navigating through learning about her powers and dealing with all the drama surrounding her sudden reappearance wasn't enough, now someone's out to take her out of the picture entirely. Friends, family and a potential mate are all trying to protect her by caging her against her will. With too many secrets still in the dark, she does what she knows best and runs. But will she be able to shine bright enough to banish the dark or will she choose to let it consume her? Should she risk it all on a chance of true happiness or it is really just two sides of the same coin, both trying to gain control of her and her powers for their own purpose?

Reminiscing

Azalea The SUV bounced down the dark road as I stared out hte window, frowning at the forest around us. I sat in the back, my backpack sitting forgotten on my lap as I contemplated what had gotten me to this point. Just last month I'd been at work waiting tables when my mom called. I shrugged it off at first, firguring she just needed me to pick something up on my way home. But then my mom kept calling. So I finally answered. "What's so important that-" "Run," my mom said, sounding scared and frantic. "Run and don't stop. You know what to do," she said before hanging up. Shit, I thought, wiping my now sweaty palms on my faded and torn jeans. I walked quickly to the front, looking around for my boss. "I quit," I said, handing my apron to him before heading out the door. He called out to me, but I didn't have time to waste. I jumped in my beige Honda Civic and pulled out of the parking lot at top speed. I knew that meant that my father had tracked me down again. For th

Fateful Meeting

Azalea My mom would give us fake names sometimes and we used cash for everything. But soon enough they would sniff us out and start asking about us around town and we'd be gone in the night again. This was the first time though that I had gone without my mom. We had been in 8 different states over the last 5 years, but had only returned to Texas a few months ago. She said it was a big enough state that the chances of us being found was slim. He wouldn't think to look in his own backyard. I didn't want to run forever and we'd had been saving up to buy new identities. I woke to the sun shinning brightly in my eyes and knew it was time to get going again. Once in Arrowhead, I checked into a small hotel right off the highway. We had looked it up and decided ahead of time that if we got separated we would meet up here. I grabbed some fast food for dinner and settled into the room to wait for my mom. Sometime in the night I was awakened by the sounds of shuffling outside my roo

New Beginnings

Azalea So here I was, sitting in the SUV with my father, mere miles from the school. A few weeks had passed since he had caught me and taken me back to Texas. I had outright refused to go onto pack lands and meet his people, so he had put me up at a hotel nearby. He had taken me shopping for a new wardrobe and all the things I would need for school as well as a few extras. I knew he was trying to make up for everything and I figured why not let him? I hadn't had many new things or much of anything while we were on the run so it was a nice feeling. He had set me up with a bank account as well and would be putting monthly allowance deposits in it for me as long as I attended school as an extra incentive. My father told me about 'our' family - I had an older brother who was training at the Alpha Academy near my school and a younger sister who was attending school with me - only two years behind me. I told him about all the cities we had been to and all the things that we had got

Room and Board

AzaleaWe finally reached the dorms and I could see my father's men waiting there by the doors. "Her bags have been placed in her room sir.""Thank you James. I'll be down shortly," my father replied. The dean led us up the stairs to the top floor, explaining that each floor held a different type of supe - mage, fae, other shifters and then werewolves. Wolves had their own floor as they outnumbered the other shifters 50:1. He explained that there was a common room on each floor as well that held multiple sofas and TV's and tables where they could study together. My room was at the end of the hall closest to a door that said not an exit. I smiled a little, hoping that was the door to the roof. I used to love climbing onto the roof at our apartments at night and just sit up there. My father opened the door with the key the dean had given him and we all walked in. I was pleasantly surprised - this place was bigger than most of the places I had lived with my mom the last several y

Settling In

I stopped by my room and grabbed my empty back pack so I could bring some things back with me from the snack bar. I had no idea what they would have, but I didn't want to have to keep going down when I was hungry or thirsty. I walked slowly to the cafeteria, which sat in the middle behind the main office and the auditorium. I was surprised when I walked in through the doors. Off to one side was coolers and coolers filled with all kinds of drinks and cold snacks - like pudding and yogurt and ice cream as well as fruits and vegetables. There was a huge rack next to them that contained other fruits and vegetables as well as what looked like fresh baked goods. There were also shelves stacked with single serve snacks like pop tarts and chips. On the other side was what looked like a full buffet. A lot of it was shut down now because there weren't that many people on campus just yet. There was an area to leave your dishes and a rack that held to go containers as well as what looked

Introductions

Azalea I woke to the feeling of warm sunshine on my face. I remembered all of this was real and I only had 10 months of this before being free. I quickly threw on some capris, a tshirt and flip flops. Looking at the time, I only had about two hours before I had to meet them and I wanted to make the most of it. I ate a quick yogurt and threw a juice into my backpack before grabbing my key and some poptarts before heading out the door. I got outside, stuffing the rest of the poptarts in my face as I walked to the forrest edge. Once I had gotten a little ways in to the tree line, I looked around and took a deep breath to ensure no one was around before undressing and putting my clothes into my bag. I found a hiding spot at the base of a tree to place my bag in before I shifted. It was a little uncomfortable as I hadn't shifted in months - not being in an area that had enough trees and not wanting to ask my father for a run. Once I shifted, I stretched, feeling the wind ruffle my

Testing

The nurse came in and quickly drew the blood before doing all the normal doctor stuff- height, weight, blood preasure, etc. Then Dr. Malone returned and asked me about my first shift - what it was like and verified my age. "Ok," the doctor said, "I'm going to close the curtain and I want you to go ahead and shift. I'm going to time you so let me know when you start and come out when you're done." I quickly got undressed, placing my cothes on the table before calling out to the doctor. Less than a minute later I peaked my snout out from behind the curtain and actually startled the doctor. "That was fast, under a minute," Dr. Malone said, writing on the chart in her hands. "I'm going to open the curtain so we can get some measurements on you." I stepped aside gingerly, not liking the feel of cold tile under my paws. The doctor frowned at me and reached out to ruffle my fur. "You have very unusual coloring for a wolf and are a little on the small side. Has your wolf always b

Azalea He grabbed my hand and practically dragged me off the field towards the cafeteria. After a few moments of shock passed, I jerked my hand away from his, causing him to stop and glance back at me. "Firstly, I'm not 4, you don't have to hold my hand and second... thanks," I said, rolling my neck a little. "You can call me Az. My mom does." He laughed a little and replied, "Lead the way, Az." I started walking again and he fell in step with me. I could tell he was bursting with questions and as we opened the door to the cafeteria, I said, "Ask. I can tell. Just ask." He blushed a little, clearly embarassed. "You and your wolf are pretty bad ass for being kinda small. Where did your coloring come from? I've never seen a red wolf or a silver one, let alone one with both. I do dig the purple curls though," he said, tugging lightly on one. I laughed at him, swatting his hand away as we walked over to the counter where full sized sandwiches on french bread were laid out

Wait, More Tests?

Azalea After he left I decided to grab a shower and a nap. I was mentally and physically exhausted. I woke up hours later and realized it was well past dusk. I glanced at my phone and saw it was almost 9pm. I hoped they would still have dinner warm so I hurriedly threw on a hoodie over my tank top and capris and slid my feet into a pair of wedges before hurrying to the cafeteria. Tonight was Mexican, one of my favorites, and luckily it was still warm. i loaded up some to go containers and grabbed a soda before heading back to my room. There I grabbed a flashlight and a towel and headed back to the roof. I loved being up there at night as it was quiet and peaceful. I ate dinner and quietly sang along to my favorite tunes. I must have fallen asleep again at some point and woke up to the sun not quite creeping up the horizon. I checked the time on my phone - I still had plenty of time for breakfast and figured I'd see what the cafeteria had to offer. I went quickly back to

New Friends

AzaleaI walked over to the cafeteria, checking the time on my phone. I realized I had a message and wondered who would be messaging me. It was from #1Brother and I laughed a little. He sent me a message that just said You got this with a thumbs up emoji. I sent him a smiley face back and walked into the cafeteria. I wasn't paying attention and bumped into another body. "Watch where you're going mutt," a rude, high pitched voice said before pushing me away. I stumbled back, mumbling a quick "I'm sorry" before looking up and seeing it was my sister."Stay away from me and mine or you'll regret it," She said, stomping off. She looked exactly like your typical high school prep girl - cute little polo shirt with short khaki shorts and bubble gum pink sneakers that matched her shirt. Ugh, I thought. Just what I needed. Like I wasn't already on the bitch list. There were more people in here today, with the new students that had completed their testing already around, as well as
