Mia

My heart skipped a beat hearing Alpha Logan’s voice as goosebumps rose on my skin.

I was no longer the carefree, naive girl I once was but was now Luna of one of the most powerful clan to exist and wife of Alpha Logan.

My eyes slowly darted around the room, settling on the faces of the guests and I could notice that some of the werewolves from Alpha Logan’s side were not pleased with the news. My gaze met disdainful stares from some of the werewolves elders who were displeased with the news but could do nothing than oblige to the Alpha by bowing their heads to welcome me as the Luna.

“You look stunning in that dress Milady”

I flinched at the sound of Alpha Logan’s voice as I turned to face him, forcing a smile on my lips.

“Thank you my lord”

I replied and he hummed.

With the ceremony coming to an end, everyone was asked to move to the ballroom to watch the Alpha and his new Luna dance which was considered a tradition and I quickly went to my room to change to a more comfortable dress that will be easier for me to move and dance in.

As I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the straps of my new dress, I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my chest as I remembered the kiss Alpha Logan and I had shared earlier. It had been a brief, possessive kiss and I could still feel the warmth of his lips on mine. My skin tingled at the memory and I felt a blush rise to my cheeks.

Taking a deep breath, I quickly pushed the thought aside as I continued to study myself in the mirror. Most of my hair was pinned up, with a few loose strands framing my face. The makeup was perfect, making me look more beautiful than I already was.

Just as I was about to turn away, I heard a faint rustling sound coming from outside my widow. At first I took it to be the birds that were chirping a few minutes ago but when the sound continued, I felt a shiver run down my spine as I slowly approached the window and at the same time, someone got inside the room through the already opened window.

Suddenly a figure emerged from the shadows and my breath caught in my throat as our eyes met.

“Rowan?”

I whispered, my voice barely audible as I stared at the figure before me. I was shocked and happy to see him.

“Rowan what are you doing here?”

I questioned, my eyes turning to look at the door before looking back at him.

“I had to see you, Mia”

He replied, his voice low as he took a step closer to me.

“How? How did you know I wasn’t Maya?”

I asked and he chuckled.

“I’ve known you since we were kids Mia” he muttered. “I know the way you move, the way you smile… Maya may look like you but she wasn’t you. I could sense it”

He added as he took another step closer.

“You don’t have to do this Mia, you don’t have to sacrifice yourself for your pack”

He said as his hands slowly reached out and he gently cupped my face, his thumbs wiping the drop of tears from my face.

“You deserve to be happy Mia”

He whispered. “You deserved to be loved for who you are, not for some duty or obligation” He added and I felt another tear roll down my cheek but Rowan’s thumb caught it, wiping it away.

“I have to Rowan”

I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I have to do this for the pack, Without this marriage, my pack will be destroyed”  I continued, my voice cracking and Rowan slowly shook his head.

“But is it worth losing yourself in the process?”

He asked as his thumbs continued to caress my cheeks. “You’re not just a pawn in a game of power Mia. You’re a person with feelings and dreams, don’t let them take that away from you”

He whispered.

I knew Rowan was right but I also know that I couldn’t walk away from my duties. Not now, not when so much was at stake. As the alpha’s daughter, I had a responsibility to my pack and I couldn’t just abandon them.

I looked up at Rowan, his brown eyes searching mine for answers. I knew that he wanted me to choose him, to choose myself but I know it wasn’t possible.

“Rowan, I…”

A knock on the door interrupted me and we both froze.

“You have to go Rowan”

I whispered, glancing nervously at the door again. “It’s not safe”

I was now a married woman and I couldn’t risk being caught with Rowan.

“I’ll be back for you”

He avowed and before I could say anything, he quickly jumped out of the window, disappearing into the night as quickly as he had appeared. I took a deep breath before closing the windows as I turned to the door.

“Come in”

I called out and the door opened  as one of the maids stood at the entrance.

“It’s time milady, the alpha is waiting for you”

She announced and I nodded, taking another deep breath a I followed her out of the room.

We walked in silence as we made our way to where the ballroom was located in the castle.

The maid pushed open the large wooden doors and I made my way towards Alpha Logan who automatically turned his gaze away from the people he was speaking with and looked at me with his face expressionless, giving away nothing. His eyes scanned me from head to toe and a frown settled on his face as his eyes narrowed slightly but he said nothing.

“May I have this dance milady?”

He asked, taking my hand as he kissed the back of my hands and my cheeks redden.

“Yes my lord”

I replied and he nodded as he led me to the center of the room.

He gently placed his hand on my waist and pulled me close, engulfing me in his chest before bringing his lips close to my ears. “Why do I smell another man on my Luna? Who touched you?”
