Logan POV

As I pulled Maya close, I couldn’t help but notice the scent of another male on her skin. It was faint, almost nonexistent but I could still smell it and my eyes narrowed. I felt a growl rising in my throat but I suppressed it, not wanting to cause a scene in front of our guests. Instead, I leaned in closer, my lips brushing against her ear.

“Why do I smell another man on my Luna? Who touched you?”

I whispered, my voice low and urgent.

I had claimed Maya as my own and yet, someone had dared to touch her. The thought sent a wave of posssessiveness washing over me and I had to fight to keep my instincts in check.

“Who touched you Maya?”

I repeated and I could feel her heart race and her body tensing in my arms.

She knew she had been caught and I could sense her fear but I needed answers.

Who had dared touch what was mine?

“N… no one, my lord”

She stuttered, her voice cracking.

“Don’t lie to me Maya”

I whispered in a low growl, my lips still inches from her ear.

“I can smell the truth, you reek of another’s man scent. Who is he?”

My grip on her waist tightened and I could feel my fingers digging into her skin but I didn’t care, I was beyond reason. I could feel my wolf snarl and snap within me, eager and begging to be unleashed, to let it hunt down the owner of the scent and teach him the meaning of trespassing on another’s mate but I clenched my jaw and held firm, refusing to let the beast consume me.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts as I slowly pulled back.

Her eyes were wide and frightened and her pupils dilated with fear as she stared right back into my eyes.

 “Maya”

I sighed as I took another deep breath, trying to calm the storm raging inside me and my grip on her waist loosened. I didn’t want to scare her further but I needed answers.

“Tell me”

I urged, my voice softer and she sighed.

“It was a childhood friend”

She replied, her voice barely audible.

“A childhood friend?”

I raised an eyebrow and she nodded.

“He came to say goodbye”

She revealed and I hummed.

“And did this childhood friend of yours happen to touch you while he was saying goodbye?”

I asked, my voice neutral but my insides were burning with anger.

“Yes my lord”

She replied and my grip on her waist tightened again.

The thought of another man touching my Luna, no matter how innocent the gesture didn’t sit well with me but I said nothing more as we continued to dance in silence.

I could feel Maya’s unease, her body stiffened in my arms as she awaited for my next move but I gave her nothing.

“Is there anything you want as your wedding gift milady?”

I asked and her eyes widened slightly, a look of surprise and confusion crossing her face. She seemed taken aback by the question, as if she had been expecting something else entirely. She hesitated for a moment before responding.

“N…no my lord. Nothing”

“Nothing?”

I repeated, my eyes narrowing slightly.

“There must be something that you want, a pet? Jewels? A mansion? or perhaps someone’s head?”

Maya’s eyes widened further, a look of alarm crossing her face at the last suggestion as she shook her head hastily and I grinned.

“Ask me anything and i will give it to you”

I said and for a moment, she said nothing before she slowly shook her head.

“I…I want nothing my lord”

She replied and I chuckled as I pulled her closer, my arms wrapping gently around her waist.

“We’ll see about that”

I whispered, my lips brushing against her ears and she shivered nervously.

I smiled to myself as I continued holding her close, savoring her delicious scent of vanilla and the warmth of her body pressed against mine.

As we continued dancing, my gaze swept across the crowded room, scanning the sea of faces that were staring at us but my attention was drawn to a figure standing at the far end of the room. He stood motionless, his fiery gaze fixed on us, mostly on Mia as his eyes seemed to stare into my very soul. I couldn’t quite make out his features but there was something about him that commanded my attention, something about him seemed familiar and then, it hit me. His scent. A faint, earthy aroma that waft from him, the same scent I had detected on Mia earlier.

My grip on Mia’s tightened and my eyes narrowed.

She said he was her Childhood friend but the way he looked at her, with passion and longing told a different story.

He loved her, I could tell from his eyes, from the way he looked at her.

He seemed to sense my eyes on him and his gaze flickered to mine, a hint of challenge dancing in his eyes. For a moment we just stared at each other in silence and then, his gaze drifted back to Mia, and his gaze softened, his eyes filling with deep longing and adoration for her. It was as if he was drinking in the sight of her, memorizing every detail of her face, every curve of her smile and admiring them. With one last glance at me, he turned and disappeared into the crowd.

I turned my attention back to Maya who was staring at me, unaware of the tension that had just passed between her mysterious admirer and me and she flashed me a smile. I felt her body relax in my arms and her beating heart which had been racing moments before gradually slowed down.

I smiled as my eyes drifted back to the crowd, searching for another glimpse of the stranger but he was gone, vanished into the sea of faces.

Who was this man?
