109. New clues

Even with only the moonlight to light them, Ed and Nate continued their journey into the dark woodland. Nate never complained or shown signs of weariness. Careful not to let the elderly hunter escape his sight, he trailed Ed's every move.

"Are you this quiet all the time?" When they came to a stop in a clearing and saw the next pack of wolves, Ed inquired.

"And is that upsetting to you?" Nate asked. "My loyalty has never caused Caiden to complain."

"Are you implying that you have my loyalty?" Ed grinned mischievously as he met Nate's gaze. "Detective, I'm not your alpha, and I'm definitely not a suspect you should stick with."

Ed's smile disappeared as Nate underlined, "I follow orders only from Caiden. He requested that I watch you closely."

Ed stopped talking and leaned back against a tree. He reached into his pocket for a pack of cigarettes and lit one. Nate stepped back to spare his nostrils the irritation caused by the smoke.
