When Alpha Kane moved more closer, the knife trembled in my hand, but I didn't let it drop. My chest heaved as I stood my ground, glaring at Alpha Kane. His eyes bore into mine, sharp and calculating, as though he was deciding whether I was worth the effort of subduing or breaking.

"I won't go back," I growled, my voice shaking but determined. "I'll fight until my last breath before I let you or anyone else control me."

His smile faded, replaced by a cold, stoic mask. "You're brave," he said flatly, his tone devoid of emotion. "Braver than most. But bravery doesn't mean much here." He stepped forward, and I instinctively took a step back, only to feel the solid presence of the guards closing in behind me.

"Stay back!" I shouted, thrusting the knife out in front of me. "I swear I'II-"

"You'll what?" Kane interrupted, his voice laced with a chilling calm. "Kill me? Stab a guard? Run?" He shook his head, almost pityingly. "You're playing a dangerous game. Do you even know what you're up against?"

I tightened my grip on the blade, ignoring

the sweat slicking my palms. "I know enough," I spat. "Enough to know I'm not staying here. Not for you. Not for anyone. You don’t deserve me"

A flicker of irritation crossed his face, but it was gone just as quickly. He raised a hand, and the guards behind me halted, their boots scuffing against the floor as they waited for his command.

"You think you're strong," he said, taking another step closer. "But strength isn't about waving a dull knife around or screaming defiance in the face of power. Strength is knowing when to fight... and when to surrender. I also don’t deserve a person like you and in the end you will be submitting to me, begging for my mercy"

I clenched my jaw, my heart hammering. "I'll never surrender to you and I will never beg you."

"Good," he said, his tone shifting unexpectedly. There was almost a hint of approval in his voice, though it was laced with something darker. "I don't want you to surrender, not right now. I want you to survive and I break you till you will beg me to kill you."

The words caught me off guard, but I didn't dare lower the knife. "What does that mean?"

"Will you kill me before or after your pup's birth?"

Kane tilted his head, studying me like I was some sort of puzzle. "You have no right to ask me such questions." He spoke then he gestured toward the guards. "Take her in my premises. Take her. Carefully. No bruises, she has had enough for tonight"

"No!" I shouted, swinging the knife wildly as the guards closed in. One of them lunged, and I slashed at his arm, drawing blood. He hissed in pain but didn't stop. Another grabbed my wrist, twisting it until the knife clattered to the floor.

I thrashed and kicked, but they were too strong. They pinned my arms behind me, forcing me to my knees in front of Kane.

He crouched down, his face inches from mine, and for the first time, I saw something behind his cold demeanor-a flicker of frustration... and maybe curiosity.

"You'll learn," he said quietly, his voice low enough that only I could hear. "One way or another, you'll learn to be submissive. But how hard that lesson is depends on you."

I glared at him, my breathing ragged. "You can try to break me, but you won't succeed."

He smirked faintly, standing back up.

"We'll see." I hissed at him.

With a wave of his hand, the guards hoisted me to my feet and began dragging me back toward the stairs. I kicked and screamed, but it was no use.

As they pulled me away, I craned my neck to look back at Kane. He stood there, watching me with an unreadable expression, his silhouette framed by the dim, flickering lights of the hellish place I now realized was a fortress as much as a prison.

For a moment, I wondered if this was it-if this was where my fight would end. But no. Deep down, I knew I wasn't done.

Not yet.

Whatever game Kane thought he was playing, he hadn't won. And I would make sure he never did.

And I won’t accept breeding for him.

He doesn't even deserve a mate.

The guards shoved me roughly down the hallway, their grip like iron, and every step felt like it took me deeper into the heart of this nightmare. The harsh sounds of the building echoed around us—laughter, shouting, the clinking of bottles, and the endless bass of the music. It was as though the whole place was alive with an energy I couldn't comprehend. The walls seemed to close in around me with each step, and every part of me screamed to fight back, to claw my way out of their grasp.

But I knew better than to struggle now. It would only make things worse.

They dragged me through a set of double doors and into a lavishly furnished room—a stark contrast to the cold, sterile corridors. The floors were polished wood, the furniture plush and ornate. It was a room that screamed power, and in the center of it all sat Alpha Kane.

His chair was the focal point of the space, dark leather that seemed to swallow him up as he leaned back, his fingers steepled in front of him. He didn’t move as the guards dragged me to the center of the room.

I fought the urge to cringe, but my stomach twisted. Kane was waiting for me, his eyes never leaving my face.

“Lock the door,” he ordered. The guards did as commanded, and the sound of the heavy door clicking shut echoed in the room like a final sentence.

I was alone with him now.

His eyes glinted as he stood up, slowly making his way toward me, his every step deliberate and predatory. "You’re a fighter," he said, his voice a soft murmur that seemed to fill the entire room. "I respect that. But you need to understand something."

He reached out, his fingers brushing my cheek gently, and I recoiled instinctively, my body tensing. He ignored it, his touch still lingering for just a moment before he dropped his hand to his side.

"You can keep fighting me," he said, his voice low and almost hypnotic. "But you will lose. The sooner you accept that, the less pain you'll endure."

I clenched my jaw, forcing myself not to react. I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing how much his words affected me.

"I'm not like the others," I spat, my voice rough but firm. "I won't bend. Not for you."

Kane's lips curled into a smile, one that was both amused and dangerous. "You're right. You're not like the others. But you're here, aren't you? And you're not leaving." He stepped back, pacing in front of me. "I could make this easy for you. A life of luxury, comfort, no more fighting. Just accept your place, and I’ll make sure you live well. I will make sure you don't live with other rogues I captured"

The thought of it made my stomach turn. "I'd rather die than be your puppet," I shot back, my voice steady despite the fear threatening to overwhelm me.

His smile faltered for a brief moment, but he recovered quickly, turning away from me with a slight shake of his head. "You will learn. They always do."

He stopped at the large window that overlooked the compound, his posture relaxed. "But you should know something," he continued, his tone darker now, "You won’t be alone in this. You’ll have to work with the others. They’re not all as stubborn as you. Some of them will help you, whether you want it or not."

I couldn't understand what he meant. I had seen the other girls, broken and hollow-eyed, lost in a life that seemed to drain every ounce of fight from them. I had no intention of joining them.

"And what if I refuse?" I asked, my voice more forceful now.

Kane turned back to face me, his expression unreadable. "You’ll regret it. You’ll beg for mercy."

I met his gaze head-on, refusing to back down. "I’ll never beg you for anything."

The tension in the room was thick, palpable. He studied me for a long moment, as if weighing my words. Then, slowly, he nodded.

"Very well," he said, his tone almost casual. "Have it your way. But don’t say I didn’t warn you."

The guards behind me shifted, and I could feel the eyes of the room on me. My chest tightened, but I stood tall.

Kane leaned against the window, looking out into the distance, as though our conversation was already over. But I knew it wasn’t.

The game had just begun.

"I’ll give you some time," he said without turning around. "Think about your choices. I’m not in a hurry. You’ll be here when I need you."

I swallowed hard but didn’t speak. I wasn’t sure what he expected from me, but one thing was certain: I wasn’t going to make it easy for him. I didn’t care if it took days, weeks, or months. I would never let him break me.

As the guards escorted me out of the room, I stole one last glance at Kane, who was still watching me from the window.

I wasn’t broken yet. And I never would be.

Sleep didn’t come again that night, not with the adrenaline coursing through me. My mind raced, calculating. If I stayed passive, they’d grind me into dust. But if I fought, I’d have to be smart. The next few days passed in a strange quietness, a calmness that I hadn’t expected after everything that had happened. During the day, I trained alongside the pack, pushing myself further than before. Kade’s presence, though still looming in the background, wasn’t as oppressive as it had been. There was a quiet understanding now—a shift in the way he looked at me. He wasn’t constantly hovering, scrutinizing my every move, but I knew that he was watching from the sidelines, waiting to see if I would keep my word.Training felt different. It wasn’t just about proving myself to the pack anymore. It was about proving it to myself. I focused more than ever, growing stronger each day, each sparring match, and feeling my body begin to adapt to the intensity of the training. There were no more whispers of doubt in my mind, no more insecurities about my place here. I was earning my place, step by step.At night, things remained just as peaceful. Kade didn’t come to my room again, and for that,

The training dragged on, but I refused to let exhaustion slow me down. Kade's gaze seemed to follow me with every movement, sharp and calculating, as though he were cataloging my every flaw. The pack dispersed slowly, some offering me lingering looks, others ignoring me entirely. I stayed behind, leaning against a wooden post to catch my breath.“You held your own today.”The voice startled me. I turned to see Torren standing a few feet away, arms crossed, his smirk less mocking this time.“Barely,” I muttered, wiping the sweat from my brow.“Barely’s better than nothing,” he said with a shrug. “Most don’t land a hit on Kade their first time sparring. You’ve got potential.”His words, while backhanded, felt oddly like praise. I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why does it sound like there’s

The morning came too soon. A soft beam of sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the room. I blinked groggily, disoriented by the unfamiliar warmth cocooning me.And then it hit me.Kade.My heart lurched, and I instinctively jerked back, only to find that the source of warmth was no longer lying beside me. The bed was empty, the sheets on his side rumpled but cold. I let out a shaky breath, a mixture of relief and confusion washing over me.Had he left? Why hadn’t I woken up when he did? The thought that I’d slept so soundly in his presence both unnerved and irritated me.I pushed myself upright, clutching the blanket to my chest as I scanned the room. The bathroom door was closed, but I didn’t hear the sound of running water. The rest of the day blurred into a haze of exhaustion. Training with the pack wasn’t just physical; it was mental, a constant test of endurance and focus. Every blow I blocked, every hit I landed, was another small victory, another step closer to proving I didn’t belong at the bottom of their hierarchy.By the time the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in streaks of red and gold, my body felt like it had been put through a meat grinder. I limped back to my room, muscles screaming in protest with every step. The room felt colder after Kade left, his presence lingering like a shadow I couldn’t shake. His words swirled in my head, heavy with implications I couldn’t unravel. You’re asking questions you don’t want the answers to. The truth. That’s what I wanted, but was it what I needed? What could possibly be so dangerous about knowing the truth?I leaned back against the bedpost, staring at the ceiling, my thoughts refusing to settle. It wasn’t enough to convince me he wasn’t a monster, but it was enough to keep me awake tonight, questioning everything.I shook my head, scoffing under my breath. "What the hell is wrong with me? Since when does 'clean yourself up' count as sweet?"Yet, I couldn’t deny the flicker of something I’d seen in his eyes. It wasn’t just anger or frustration. There was hesitation, maybe even a hint of… concern? That thought made me stop in my tracks. Concern wasn’t something I associated with Kade.
