Alexander’s POV

A Day Before The Ceremony

I looked into the mirror, admiring my handsome self. “I hope that delusional goddess gives me a strong mate—a mate not as strong as me, though.”

“From the rumors, you should be feeling the bond between the two of you a day before the ceremony." My beta Jasper, who was also my right hand, replied to me while standing by the entrance of my door. He was always beside me, ever since I became the Alpha.

"Do you feel a bond with anyone, Jasper?"

"I did feel a sensation when I woke up," he said, looking at me with a smile on his face.

"Why do I feel like you are not talking about something relating to mating?"

"What are you insinuating, Alexander?" We both burst into laughter. Even if he was my beta, he had always called me by my name. He was the only one permitted to call me without saying "Alpha.".

We were the best of friends through the lowest of lows. We didn't have wealthy parents. My father had died during the last war between another pack, while Jasper was an orphan.

My mom had brought him into our house when he was still a baby. Apparently she found him in a woven basket near the river, and since then he has become my half brother.

After being together for many years, we found out that we aspired to become the Alpha, and since then, we have become rivals, advancing through ranks, beating other competitors, and building a stronger bond between us. We were equally matched in strength, speed, and power.

On the day of the ceremony for the selection of the next Alpha, the elders had given one rule:

"A fight to the death." We knew it was going to come to this: the last fight. He was a good fighter who excelled in both defense and attack skills. I am more into attacking than defense. Why would you be equal in defense and attack when you can just attack and go all out?

We had fought for three days in the arena without food, water, or sleep. It was obvious we weren't giving up anytime soon. On the fourth day, the match became a little one-sided, giving me the upper hand. I knew something was wrong. The Jasper I knew could go more than a week fighting. His endurance was greater than mine.

His movements were getting easier to read, and his attacks weren't as strong as before.

"What are you doing, bastard? Tired already?" I smiled while dodging one of the claw attacks.

"You must be kidding me; I wouldn't get tired fighting someone as weak as you." He laughed as he moved towards me, launching another attack towards my belly. Moving back swiftly, he clawed at the air, immediately giving me an opportunity to strike since he has been playing more defense than attack, disrupting me from attacking any open spots.

In a blink of an eye, I dodged the attack, immediately transporting myself to his back. By using all of the energy I still had, I enhanced my speed by activating the switch skill, which allowed me to move as fast as ten Alphas combined. It was my signature skill, which allowed me to move crazy fast while shifting part of the energy to different parts of my attacks, which improved my damage ten times. It had a time limit of about ten seconds, so I had to make the most of it.

Jasper, who had tried to claw at me, had a surprised look on his face as he couldn't find me at his front anymore. He was still in his position.

The elders also had a surprised look on their faces.

"Did you just see that?"

"What kind of skill is that?"

"They have been fighting for four days, and he still has this amount of energy?"

Slowly, I dispersed some of the energy into my hands, easing out my claws and making them harder and more dangerous. With only six seconds remaining, I released my attacks at his back, destroying the leather armor he was wearing and tearing apart his flesh. I didn't mind killing him to become Alpha; I would do anything to become Alpha, even if it meant killing someone close to me.

After three seconds of running, I revolved around him, dealing attacks anywhere possible. Time was running out as I was starting to feel weak. Another flaw of the attack was that it used all of my energy.

Time finally ran out as I dropped on my knees, hoping to see Jasper down. Strangely, he was still standing while blood dripped from the various cuts I had made. No way!

No one would be able to survive those attacks. I had attacked his sensitive points, dealing ten times the damage. It was surprising to see him still standing. He turned around to face me as he let out a huge roar, releasing a huge amount of energy, which made the grounds of the arena crumble into two, causing a big wave of dust that disturbed the vision of the elders.

What just happened seemed impossible; my strongest attack wasn't able to kill him.

"Just what kind of monster are you?" I shouted with an agitated look on my face. I had never seen anyone survive that attack. A skill I had slowly created and mastered for about fifty years. I had a cold sweat running down my face, and as I tried standing up, my knees weren't responding. Oh damn.

Slowly, he walked towards me, ignoring the cuts and blood that dripped off him. He left blood trails as he approached me. The arena had been crushed into two.

The elders were still in shock about what had just happened in the arena. I could see some of them sweating. The two of us had been displaying a lot of power since the beginning of the match, portraying intellectual knowledge and how much work we had put into knowing about harnessing different skills and attributes.

"Those boys are monsters," one of them said while adjusting his clothing. Everyone could see how much he was sweating.

"We have been observing for the past four days now. This sudden burst of power is now alarming. Any small power release, and the remains of the arena are not going to exist anymore. We need to stop this; we can't even see what's going on now that the dust has blocked our vision. The arena alone would take years to rebuild." The main elder said this while rising from his seat.

The main elder is the oldest in the whole pack. His job is to crown the next Alpha and act as his advisor. He has over twenty lesser elders under his control, and all of them were present watching the two battles.

"Someone should go check if someone is still alive." One of the lesser elders suggested.

"We don't have to look; we wait," the main elder replied, sitting down.

"Main elder, what if no one comes?"

"A true Alpha, despite the situation, is supposed to know how to survive.

"I know about that. What if we...

"Look ! Someone's coming!" Turning their faces back towards the ruins of the arena, they could see a small figure approaching while holding something.

"Alexander !!!"

Alexander’s POVBecoming the alpha that day became the biggest change in my life. I had people bowing down whenever I passed; I could have any maiden of my choice. The life of the Alpha was something I wouldn't give up until I died. Who would? This power was something I had always longed for...........A few months passed, and I had gotten used to the royal life. To my utmost surprise, I was informed that Jasper was still conscious. They had found him breathing when they went to retrieve his body. His wound had been healing slowly but barely enough to heal him completely, so they had taken him to the healers mountains to get him back into shape."I thought it was a fight to the death. You could have left him there to die.""The main elder ordered to save him says he's going to be useful to you, my Lord." The messenger who was assigned to deliver the message had his head down. Who would look the Alpha in the face?."Oh, really? I really regret not delivering that final blow. I was a f

Lyra’s POVI had crushed the doors of the room to find myself at the ceremony; how is that possible? I turned around to find the room where I had come from, surprisingly. It was the room where the chief maiden had almost beaten me to death. No way!! I was just running away from Sasha a minute ago. I had so many questions running through my mind.I had to run away to get away from whatever Sasha had planned to execute on me. And some way or another, I ended up back at the palace after breaking through the door. Was it a dream? It felt like my mind was playing with me. I prayed it was just my mind playing with me as I decided not to think about what happened with Sasha and face the problem at hand.I finally left my thoughts to find everyone looking at me. Everyone, including the main elders and the chief priest, It was very obvious that I had disturbed the ceremony, as everyone gave me that look. I never wanted this kind of attention. His words rang loudly in my ears like a constant echo that I had begun to see the words boldly written on that face of his.Who did he think he was to reject me just because he was the Alpha? My tears poured on my cheeks like rain, and my eyes hazily ran through my drawers, searching for my clothes. The room was too dark to see anything, not even myself. Crashing hard on the ground in frustration, I screamed into my palms over my mouth. It would have been further embarrassing for anyone to hear me cry. I doubt they cared that much anyways.Looking up at the half moon reflecting on my face, my hoarse voice bitterly complained. “You really do not give me a choice for anything, huh? Not even about my mate? Are we not all equals to you too?”, My voice broke with each fully formed sentence.“Why did you have to take me so high up to make me crash? In front of them, in front of him!”, My anger had turned into pleas and grieviances.“There is no place for me here, moon goddess. I have to

The sun rays flowed through the silk curtains, landing directly on my shut eyes. Groaning in annoyance, I rolled over, turning to the other side, when it suddenly hit me.Pressing my body into the soft texture of the bed, my eyes instantly flew open. I slowly blinked them, trying to adapt to the strange environment. This was definitely not my room. Staring into nothingness for a while, it all began to flood back into my head. I had gone to drown myself in a bar…and I had met a man. My eyes rolled down to my uncovered body, which laid fully unclothed.Right. I had sex with a stranger. Not just any kind of sex. But my first time at that.I stretched out my wobbly feet on the carpet, going straight to the bathroom. There, I stood motionlessly in front of the large mirror, admiring the hickeys on my neck. Although the memories from last night still played hazily in my head, which was a different kind of pain. Especially the man. I could not recall how he looked like. The only thing that

If death was a person, then it would definitely be him. The fun fact is, he was here…in my room. His icy gaze penetrated through the thin covers, where I lay, pretending to be asleep. He could always go back the same way he came. I would not deliberately ask for death.“Your lips are quivering, little girl”, his cold hands grazed my thin lips, making me jump in fright. How did he get so close to me already? My heart flipped over a million times as I wearily stared at him, from the door where my back was glued to.“Why so scared now?”, his voice sounded as faint as a whisper, which was more dangerous to my ears. The pressure in the room increased the weight of the silence, crushing me from the inside out. My lips were unable to form a word, so I wisely kept my mouth shut, with my eyes still stuck on his imposing frame.“So, I learnt of your disappearance throughout the night, until late this morning”, he made himself comfortable, leaning on the half-collapsed table beside my bed. “What

'Dear moon goddess, I had never lived my life wrong! How could this happen to me?’, Lyra inwardly wailed, staring into thin air, without blinking. Alpha Alexander's fists turned white as they clenched the arms of his chair with mixed emotions, but all screaming rage. There were no words to save herself from this mess. She deeply regretted not being the first to know about this.“Do you know the gravity of the disgrace you have caused me?”, His voice thundered uncontrollably, still echoing in her ears even after a minute had passed.“Speak up girl! You didn't strike me as a mute person the other night”, She shivered uncontrollably, with tears glistening in her eyes. Her life was already this bad, and she was going to bring a child that would meet the same fate as her? All these while, she had held resentment towards her mother for throwing her into the hands of people who did not care for her, but the realization seemed to hit her now. “I did not plan for such a mistake, my lord”,

She could not get to see much as her torn clothes were taken off her body by the maids, brushing her skin clean in the huge bathtub. About an hour later, she was gently tapped by one of the maids, informing her that it was time to put on her clothes. Her eyes instantly cleared up, as she reluctantly got out of the bathtub with an inward sigh of regret. It took another whole hour before she could finally see her reflection in the mirror. After consoling myself with a good cry the previous night, I felt pretty indifferent towards today. The outcome of today's events was pretty known to me already. I grew up with Athena's parents. They treated me just as the members of the pack did. They never paid any attention to me. Not even my health or feeding.I was first a maid in their home, before coming to work in the palace at a young age still. According to them, I was of no use. And they could not care about what a person like me ate.I had too much responsibility. Even though I did all the chores. Ran all the errands. Still ate just once throughout the day. It was crumbs. Scraps from the leftover food on their plate, when I washed them at night. Most times, Athena would intentionally throw the few scraps in the bin in an attempt to mock me.She would tell me to go find my parents and stop living off her family's table. One time, she pushed a plate full of food to me at night. As I did not eat throughout the day. “Here,

She knew about the war between both packs. It had been her lingering fear. Would his love for her be greater than a war that did not even involve her? She could not trade the love she now had for anything, but secrets. As much as he hated the Crescent moon pack, he knew he would forgive Lyra if she told him the truth. Alpha Tristan itched to hear the truth from Lyra, which was why he clearly asked to dispel his doubts. But her eyes and lips told two different tales. He was hurt. Luckily, they had sailed through the violent winds. The palace had quietened down. There was no more hushing around as everything was now clear.According to the palace maids and guards, Laura had fallen out of favor with Alpha Tristan. The maids accorded her more respect as she had successfully made their Alpha throw out the witch. Each of them looked forward to working in the kitchen as only then, they could assist her and be among the first to take in the sweet aroma of her delicacies.Lyra, on the other hand, who was more than happy to share as she was left with nothing to do the entire day, eagerly let the maids watch her as she prepared them.It should be noted that not all the palace maids and guards were happy with the changes as well. They still viewed her as a home wrecker, despite her genuine kindness. This controversy lingered amongst them, but none was bold enough to make any of their opinions visible to Lyra as they feared the Alpha's wrath.“I think this current princ

It was the first time she wasn't up and working. Her eyes shone in delight as the maids frequently took food in and out for her. Her meals were intently attended to. The tiredness of the past months weighed down on her. Her body noted the changes and adapted quickly to it. She slept when she was not eating, ate when she was not sleeping. This was her life now.
