Charlotte
I could always tell when a lecture was about to end by the tone of Professor Thompson's voice, so I made myself get out of my daydream and concentrate long enough to finish the homework. Again, I would find the piece we had to create to be far too easy. Even though classes hadn't started for a little over a month, I was still bored. The only one of the four classes I was enrolled in that I thought was at all interesting was Intro to Criminology. I told myself again as I was leaving the room, "I hope this gets more exciting soon." "Hey Charlotte, I see you were spacing out again," a man's voice called out to me from behind. "Yes, Astro, is it really that hard for you to stay grounded for even one class?" Someone else answered. We four moved to the side of the hallway so as not to block anyone walking by. Willow sighed and slapped both of their arms. "Charlotte, ignore them," said Willow. In my entire life, I had never been able to make friends like them. Sharp angles, light ash blonde hair, and piercing green eyes were characteristics shared by Willow and her twin brother Rowan. At well over six feet, Rowan was still at least half a foot taller than his sister, even though they were both quite tall. The other man was her partner, Kyran. His hair was jet black and his eyes were hazel; he was taller than Willow but not quite as short as Rowan. They were members of the pack too, being werewolves. But they were so lowly in the eyes of the public that they pretended not to care. They would evaluate me based on their own conclusions. I had met them on a day that had been both joyful and terrifying. It felt like one of my biggest life victories when they finally accepted me, even though I had no idea how they would react. The fact that I had only known them for a little over a month didn't seem to bother them. The fact that they treated me as though I were one of them, just like my cousins had, delighted me. "Please, Kyran, could you call me Astro? My name has no bearing on it." As soon as he told his own joke, he guffawed, "No? For an astronaut who spends the entire class floating through space, I think it's very appropriate." Willow gave him another slap and said, "Honestly," laughing. "Why do I bother to deal with you again?" she exclaimed. "Because the Moon Goddess said that we were destined to be together forever and therefore you're head over heels in love with me and find me irresistible," he repeated in response to her irritated question. most likely as a result of her persistent questions. With a giggle, she reached up on her toes to pull him in close for a quick kiss. "Yes, that's right. That has to be the case." "Blech, can you wait until I am not around to do that?" Rowan said. All four of us laughed at the things we did on a daily basis. "Hey Charlotte, is your cousin here, or would you like us to give you a ride home today?" I thought, "No, Robert is probably already waiting for me, so I should hurry up," as I began to run toward the door. See you all the following week." "What?" After me, I heard Rowan and Kyran yell, "Don't you mean tomorrow?" which caused me to swerve to a stop and turn to face them once more. "What are you discussing?" "The Gathering of the Harvest Moon." Willow spoke in an uninteresting tone and with a soft, childlike voice. I smacked my forehead and exclaimed, "Oh My Goddess! It's unbelievable that I overlooked that." "Good thing you have such good friends who will remind you, that way you can be prepared at least a little in advance," I said, startled, to Kyran's laughter. I said to him, sarcastically, "Har-har very funny." I growled at him, half-joking, half-seriously, "Ouch, rein it in, Astro." I bounded toward the parking lot, avoiding the throngs of people. I could see Robert standing next to his Jeep X, waiting for me. He was as close to a doting brother as I was going to get, and most of the time it made me very happy, though I would never admit it to him. You're late, he growled as soon as I was close enough for him to growl at me. I apologised, saying, "I was talking with a couple people after class. I was mostly filled with displeasure, but I was responding to his impatience as well. Fortunately, too, since they brought up a memory for me." "Oh yeah?" he said, laughing. Regarding what did they remind you of? It was obvious that he thought it was irrelevant. "I had completely forgotten about tomorrow night's Harvest Moon Gathering." How on earth could you possibly forget about that, Charlotte? We normally only get together for the hunter's moon, not the harvest moon, so this is the first time we are getting together for both. It's not my fault that I overlooked a tradition break, particularly since I'm not usually involved in these things anyway." To be honest, could he really blame me? Ever since I turned eighteen, most of the pack has acted as if I never existed. If it weren't for the tuition and monthly stipend, I would assume that Grandfather had also forgotten about me. However, it's possible that he is merely letting his secretary handle things and is not aware of what is going on. He said to me, grinning and laughing, "Come on, Charlotte, let's go," as he climbed into the Jeep. Whatever kind of brother I could ask for, he would always be there for me, he promised. I asked him, "Why is there a gathering tomorrow, anyway?" as he was leaving the city and entering the property. Now, I call it a "compound" because that's what the pack refers to, but actually, it was a gated community that housed a large number of pack families. The compound was encircled by a forest on the north and west and mountains on three of the sides. A river meanders along the south side of the compound and around the base of the mountain. We had literally constructed a fortress to live in, thanks to the assistance of the Elements all around us. Everyone who lived at the compound was a resident except for the exiles, who were mainly newly arrived adult males who left voluntarily or just wanted a little more freedom. It was the safest way for us to keep people away from us and protect ourselves. "The Alpha needs to host as many get-togethers as he can before the year is out in order to find a partner. He must begin travelling to other packs in order to search for a mate if he is unable to locate his Luna within our pack. But each unmated pack member must leave because there's a chance that other pairs will also establish mate bonds during the events. Mates are welcome to attend, as it is a social event and it would be inappropriate to bar anyone from attending." "Well, since Willow and Kyran are already mated, that explains why they are leaving." I pondered. But really, why must I leave? Everyone is aware that I will not be his mate. I am unable to form a mate bond because I do not own a wolf." I exhaled. He told me right away, "Charlotte, you don't know that." He used to always tell me this when I would get depressed when I was younger. I remember getting really angry at myself or my mother for not having a wolf. But for now, all I can do is enjoy my somewhat better existence, since there's nothing else I can do. I lost my temper, letting out a little more rage than I had planned to. "I am not a wolf, nor am I human. I have no place here. Ask Grandfather, please." Robert snapped, which made me laugh. Yes, occasionally I would like to tell old gramps where to put his pride—which is holier than thou—into his mouth. The thing that Grandfather hated most was how he treated me. He was only two years older than his brother, who was six years older than me, which put him closer to my age—possibly because I have two cousins. They still loved me even after Evander grew up and moved on with his life. He had even recently found a partner and gotten married, moving into his own home on the property. "Nevertheless, Robert, we both understand that nobody will mate with me and that, even in the event that they did, they would still reject me." When I told him, "Charlotte, you can't reject a mate bond," he looked surprised. You are aware of that. Yes, I understand, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't attempt to turn me down. They would probably prefer to remain single forever. They would initiate the first Buddhist monk wolf order." I laughed at myself. "That's not funny," he growled. "You already know that it is, in fact. None of the men in this pack would consider me a mate." I made this very clear.David POVI sat at my desk, listening to Evander, my personal assistant, report on his adventures. Because of his extreme efficiency, the reports were always longer than was strictly necessary. He could explain everything in less time, but who knew what the additional information would ultimately reveal? He reported on the autonomous, restless wolves that lived in the adjacent city. He told me that there was some discussion of an attempt to overthrow me and steal my people and land, and that the pack whose territory bordered ours, albeit they had far less acreage than us, was making quite a fuss. There were rumours about a renegade coven of warlocks and witches that used magic and had settled in our region. The elders and the record books say we haven't seen the likes of them in almost twenty years. Since Evander's grandfather had been my father's beta, I had thought about appointing him as my own because he was so meticulous and skilled at his work. However, his fam
Charlotte POVUpon arriving home, I immediately observed that my Aunt Eve had prepared my favourite meal, Honey Garlic Pork Chops. Grandfather was present, which was the second thing I noticed. His car wasn't there, and the food overpowered his scent, so I didn't first notice him; otherwise, I would have scented him before I saw him. Regardless of the situation, Grandfather used them against me, using the fact that I didn't follow his scent as more evidence that I wasn't one of them. I'd like him to stop it right away because I already knew I wasn't a wolf. "I see you are the same as ever, Charlotte." I lied, a tiny bit of cynicism in my voice, "It's nice to see you too, Grandfather." "To what do I owe the pleasure of having you visit me today?" I said. He winced. Grandpa was aware that I was making an effort to be courteous to him. "I have come bearing warnings for the upcoming full moon gatherings. And I have prepared your attire for tomorrow's event." "That is very kind of you
Charlotte POVI was ready for the dreadful event after Aunt eve had done primping and petting me and had dressed me in the dress that Grandfather had provided. It would be more convenient for me if Willow and the others were there to pick me up when they were heading there. We went to the northernmost road after leaving my house, which was situated in the higher part of the compound due to my family's status, or prior position. Despite having spent my whole childhood in the compound, I had never visited the Alpha's home. Unless the weather was extremely severe, everyone normally congregated at the clearing for significant meetings and activities, which is where I had met up with everyone. However, neither Willow nor I had ever visited the Alpha's home, based on our exchange. She said as we approached the Alpha House and saw the lengthy driveway leading up to it, "This is actually exciting." There was a small road at the back of the compound, although it was really a
David's povI was already getting a headache from the evening. The main group, which had arrived by seven, was welcomed by me. There was still a steady stream of pack members coming up the path, so Evander told me I should have waited. "I growled and stalked off in the direction of the group I was supposed to be 'entertaining' for the night. If they couldn't be here by the time it started, that's on them." It would be ideal if I could meet them sooner and find out which of them was my partner. To be honest, I had already detected my partner's scent. Actually, this morning. What were the chances? I had been attempting to release some of the bottled-up resentment I was experiencing by running in the forest outside the compound. I was running in circles, not really seeing where I was going. And while I was making my way around the woodland, I noticed something new, though it was quite faint. Something that did not exist when I first began. I followed t
Charlotte POVThat dangerously tempting aroma had grown stronger while I was sitting there on the fallen tree, trying to get away from the celebration. I had desired to leave it behind. I had intended to avoid contact with whoever it was as much as possible. And yet, here I was, facing him directly. The best I could hope for would be for him to pass by the place where I was. leaving me alone because he was too preoccupied with whatever he was looking for. All I could hope was that he would miss me. I said to myself in a whisper, "He probably doesn't notice my scent like I notice his." I could no longer ignore the aroma, which was growing stronger, when I noticed his silhouette in the distance. He was coming straight for me; he was not going to sidestep me. I hid as best I could by tucking myself under the tree. He was moving clumsily. It was as if he was blind. even wandering among the woods, he was moving more slowly than I would have thought possible. At that mom
David POVI stalked back into the home and headed to my office. I trudged along the hallways, trying not to shift. And I made a concerted effort not to ruin anything in the process. I only completed one of those tasks, and shifting was what I had not done when I walked two feet into my office. I can't even recall what I hurled, crashed, or flung carelessly through the hallways and rooms on my approach to my office. It made no difference. There was only so much I could do to contain my enraged wolf before he lost all control. I wanted to be alone, so I slammed the door behind me. Behind me, I could hear multiple sets of footsteps searching for the precise reason for tonight's events. I'd yelled at everyone to go and terminated the gathering early, but no one knew why. Nobody knew why I was so damned angry, and rightly so. If only they were aware of it. I growled to myself, "Doesn't she know what's happening?" and with more force than I meant, I threw my chair
David POVIn my dream, I heard someone yell, "Alpha!" and it startled me awake. I became aware of the knocking at my door at that point. I heard my aide Evander calling to me from the other side of the door. "Alpha, it is time for you to rise, it is nearly noon." I glared at him as I climbed out of bed, "Fine." I quickly got dressed for the day and cleansed my face. Evander was waiting for me when I got up and left my room. He informed me, "You have already missed several appointments this morning." I complained, "It's Sunday." He told me in his stiff, rigid, and straight-laced voice, "You're a busy man, busy men never have a day off." I laughed and asked, "Is that why I have to see your ugly mug every day?" He grumbled and let go of his butler voice, saying, "Laugh it up David, but if I wasn't here half of your work would never get done." I snarled at him, "I never have you do my work for me." "I never said you did, but
David'S POV.“I didn't meet her, I just smelled her scent but then those malicious fools didn't let me get close enough to her before she ran away with her friends.” I said to them not to be impressed with them being so interested in my love life.“This is strange, don't you think? How can he have a scent and not get a glimpse?” Oswald asked, looking at me with doubt evident on his face.“It's possible, Uncle. You don't have to get too close to them before you can have their scent, I'm sure we all know that.” I couldn't convince these people at all, I'll just let them say what they want. “So what's the way out, how do you plan on finding your mate?? Do you want to lose her like that? Cadmus asked after clearing his throat.“Right now uncle I don't know what to say to this, it's my first time you know. Is there a way I can find her? David's POVI had escaped from the gathering. I was no longer comfortable there. How I got out of there without them noticing was so fast. I went to the woods because I wanted to see her again. I wanted to know that I was not being delusional. Then I began to walk through the woods. There was this Force there like another force was in the woods as well. I bet it was not this girl, there was someone there. Then I heard footsteps, I turned and I saw that it was Evander. What exactly was he doing here? Why was he following me about the place? I wanted to be alone till I found her here, I believed she would come. “ What are you doing here?" I asked him.“ This is definitely where the ceremony is" “ I am aware"“ What are you doing here? You should not be here, let's go back” he said. " You can go, I will join you,” I said. David's POVIt was the full moon and the group of girls that would be definitely eliminated were already in my residence. I wanted to go into the woods and feel the scent and presence of my mate again. I couldn't do that as this was what I agreed to.I stood aloof, watching the girls as they played around the compound. I could see the joy and hopes on some of the girls' faces and that made me more angry. None of them really wanted or cared about me. They just wanted to be Luna.A thought struck my mind again. The last time I met my mate, she was running away from me.Was she afraid? Or didn't she want to be Luna like all these gold diggers that had flooded my residence now?If that's what she wanted, I was ready to step down from this Alpha position to be with her. 'But how am I going to find her again if she keeps running away from me?'I needed to devise a plan. As I was busy with my thoughts, the cackles from the girls' group were disturbing me greatly. I was already tired of thei

My aunt looked at me as I looked at her to help me out of the new problem but she seemed excited to see me in the dress. It was a lost cause.“Yes grandpa, I'll do just that.” I said to him snatching the gown from him and started walking towards the stairs heading to my room. “Enjoy your stay here, granddad.”He looked at me as I walked and then faced my aunt Cecilla, “ does she really not want to get mated?” He asked her. Aunt Cecilla just sighed and left the room leaving him with uncle Garret.I entered my room and sat down on my bed !! Why can't I just stay this way? Why must I be mate
Charlotte’s POV.I sat at home anxious after being told my grandfather would be visiting us that day. Panic setting in because I knew he wasn't coming to visit. He never came to visit.I rummaged through my stuff looking for a distraction to not think about the school board meeting, so I decided how to focus.“Charlotte, Willow and Rowan, they are here, they are coming upstairs, soon dear.” Aunt Cecilla alerted me from downstairs.“Thank you, auntie.” Phew!! I breathed in for a long time ahh!! They were great people for distraction. I hurriedly put back my stuff in the position and waited for them to come up as I could hear their footsteps getting nearer.Knocking and opening my door, Willow comes in looking so excited. “Hey munchkin what's up! Are you good?” She asked, sitting down next to me on the bed.“Yh, I guess I'm good. How are you?” I knew another question would be thrown my way as she nodded her head answering my question, so I just opened up. “Well, I'm nervous as hell, gra
