David POV
I sat at my desk, listening to Evander, my personal assistant, report on his adventures. Because of his extreme efficiency, the reports were always longer than was strictly necessary. He could explain everything in less time, but who knew what the additional information would ultimately reveal? He reported on the autonomous, restless wolves that lived in the adjacent city. He told me that there was some discussion of an attempt to overthrow me and steal my people and land, and that the pack whose territory bordered ours, albeit they had far less acreage than us, was making quite a fuss. There were rumours about a renegade coven of warlocks and witches that used magic and had settled in our region. The elders and the record books say we haven't seen the likes of them in almost twenty years. Since Evander's grandfather had been my father's beta, I had thought about appointing him as my own because he was so meticulous and skilled at his work. However, his family was followed by all that was disagreeable. Not that they could get away from it, either, with the girl remaining there to serve as a continual reminder of what had transpired. I really felt awful for the guy. I only wish he wouldn't ramble on for so long because he was incredibly intelligent and the finest wolf I could have for an assistant. Oh no! Evander stood straight as a pin and recited the information from memory, "...and lastly, all of the unmated females have been assigned to their groups. You will spend your time at each of the Full Moon Gatherings looking for your mate among the women assigned to the group number for that gathering." With his sharp features, dark hair, and eyes, all he seemed to be missing was the penguin suit that would have given him the appearance of an upscale butler. I was almost laughing at the concept, which infuriated me. I don't want to attend these awful events; I should be furious and incensed right now. "I will not need an entire night just for that. I will know within five seconds if anyone in the group is my mate." I sighed. "The Elders seemed to think you should spend some time alone with each one of them if possible, but as much time with the group as a whole if not." "If they're not my mate, then spending more time with them won't make a difference. These glorified speed dating traps they've set up for me won't change anything at all." I screamed. "Hey, don't snap at me, okay? I'm not the one who set all this up." Evander said, briefly removing his professional façade to smile at my annoyance. He was my friend, and this wasn't his fault, I had to keep in mind. I was losing control of my anger. I'd been on edge for weeks now, and with what was coming, things were probably going to grow a lot worse. I would go headfirst into a fight with another pack if you told me I might not survive. I'll take down a peg or two if you tell me that a rogue is vying with me for the title of Alpha and that he has to be put in check. Inform me that a warlock has abducted a child from humanity and that I will be the first to arrive on the site to deal with the situation stealthily and precisely. Tell me, though, that I must be forced to mingle with a group of giggling she-wolves who believe they have a chance to either become the next Luna or the person who warms my bed for a night. that they believe they have a chance to get my money or the prestige I may bestow. It would always be the same, regardless of the cause. They would not change over time. Women were worthless, superficial beings who exploited you for their own gain and then simply abandoned you without saying anything. Hence, I have no desire for a partner. Women are just concerned about themselves. His mother was one of the possible exceptions. She was without a doubt the greatest woman in the world prior to the occurrence. She was only a shadow of the person she had once been. She was like a vegetable, just sitting there all day long in a catatonic state. She sat drooling on herself while gazing out the window. She had not talked, moved, or otherwise displayed life. Not since the betrayal that killed my father seven years prior. The disloyalty of a lady who prioritised her own needs over those of others. I really wouldn't allow someone like them to damage my pack once more.Charlotte POVUpon arriving home, I immediately observed that my Aunt Eve had prepared my favourite meal, Honey Garlic Pork Chops. Grandfather was present, which was the second thing I noticed. His car wasn't there, and the food overpowered his scent, so I didn't first notice him; otherwise, I would have scented him before I saw him. Regardless of the situation, Grandfather used them against me, using the fact that I didn't follow his scent as more evidence that I wasn't one of them. I'd like him to stop it right away because I already knew I wasn't a wolf. "I see you are the same as ever, Charlotte." I lied, a tiny bit of cynicism in my voice, "It's nice to see you too, Grandfather." "To what do I owe the pleasure of having you visit me today?" I said. He winced. Grandpa was aware that I was making an effort to be courteous to him. "I have come bearing warnings for the upcoming full moon gatherings. And I have prepared your attire for tomorrow's event." "That is very kind of you
Charlotte POVI was ready for the dreadful event after Aunt eve had done primping and petting me and had dressed me in the dress that Grandfather had provided. It would be more convenient for me if Willow and the others were there to pick me up when they were heading there. We went to the northernmost road after leaving my house, which was situated in the higher part of the compound due to my family's status, or prior position. Despite having spent my whole childhood in the compound, I had never visited the Alpha's home. Unless the weather was extremely severe, everyone normally congregated at the clearing for significant meetings and activities, which is where I had met up with everyone. However, neither Willow nor I had ever visited the Alpha's home, based on our exchange. She said as we approached the Alpha House and saw the lengthy driveway leading up to it, "This is actually exciting." There was a small road at the back of the compound, although it was really a
David's povI was already getting a headache from the evening. The main group, which had arrived by seven, was welcomed by me. There was still a steady stream of pack members coming up the path, so Evander told me I should have waited. "I growled and stalked off in the direction of the group I was supposed to be 'entertaining' for the night. If they couldn't be here by the time it started, that's on them." It would be ideal if I could meet them sooner and find out which of them was my partner. To be honest, I had already detected my partner's scent. Actually, this morning. What were the chances? I had been attempting to release some of the bottled-up resentment I was experiencing by running in the forest outside the compound. I was running in circles, not really seeing where I was going. And while I was making my way around the woodland, I noticed something new, though it was quite faint. Something that did not exist when I first began. I followed t
Charlotte POVThat dangerously tempting aroma had grown stronger while I was sitting there on the fallen tree, trying to get away from the celebration. I had desired to leave it behind. I had intended to avoid contact with whoever it was as much as possible. And yet, here I was, facing him directly. The best I could hope for would be for him to pass by the place where I was. leaving me alone because he was too preoccupied with whatever he was looking for. All I could hope was that he would miss me. I said to myself in a whisper, "He probably doesn't notice my scent like I notice his." I could no longer ignore the aroma, which was growing stronger, when I noticed his silhouette in the distance. He was coming straight for me; he was not going to sidestep me. I hid as best I could by tucking myself under the tree. He was moving clumsily. It was as if he was blind. even wandering among the woods, he was moving more slowly than I would have thought possible. At that mom
David POVI stalked back into the home and headed to my office. I trudged along the hallways, trying not to shift. And I made a concerted effort not to ruin anything in the process. I only completed one of those tasks, and shifting was what I had not done when I walked two feet into my office. I can't even recall what I hurled, crashed, or flung carelessly through the hallways and rooms on my approach to my office. It made no difference. There was only so much I could do to contain my enraged wolf before he lost all control. I wanted to be alone, so I slammed the door behind me. Behind me, I could hear multiple sets of footsteps searching for the precise reason for tonight's events. I'd yelled at everyone to go and terminated the gathering early, but no one knew why. Nobody knew why I was so damned angry, and rightly so. If only they were aware of it. I growled to myself, "Doesn't she know what's happening?" and with more force than I meant, I threw my chair
David POVIn my dream, I heard someone yell, "Alpha!" and it startled me awake. I became aware of the knocking at my door at that point. I heard my aide Evander calling to me from the other side of the door. "Alpha, it is time for you to rise, it is nearly noon." I glared at him as I climbed out of bed, "Fine." I quickly got dressed for the day and cleansed my face. Evander was waiting for me when I got up and left my room. He informed me, "You have already missed several appointments this morning." I complained, "It's Sunday." He told me in his stiff, rigid, and straight-laced voice, "You're a busy man, busy men never have a day off." I laughed and asked, "Is that why I have to see your ugly mug every day?" He grumbled and let go of his butler voice, saying, "Laugh it up David, but if I wasn't here half of your work would never get done." I snarled at him, "I never have you do my work for me." "I never said you did, but
David'S POV.“I didn't meet her, I just smelled her scent but then those malicious fools didn't let me get close enough to her before she ran away with her friends.” I said to them not to be impressed with them being so interested in my love life.“This is strange, don't you think? How can he have a scent and not get a glimpse?” Oswald asked, looking at me with doubt evident on his face.“It's possible, Uncle. You don't have to get too close to them before you can have their scent, I'm sure we all know that.” I couldn't convince these people at all, I'll just let them say what they want. “So what's the way out, how do you plan on finding your mate?? Do you want to lose her like that? Cadmus asked after clearing his throat.“Right now uncle I don't know what to say to this, it's my first time you know. Is there a way I can find her? I asked looking at them, I really wanted to find my mate not to retain the Alpha position but to have someone I can talk to that wasn't pressuring me to
Charlotte’s POV.I sat at home anxious after being told my grandfather would be visiting us that day. Panic setting in because I knew he wasn't coming to visit. He never came to visit.I rummaged through my stuff looking for a distraction to not think about the school board meeting, so I decided how to focus.“Charlotte, Willow and Rowan, they are here, they are coming upstairs, soon dear.” Aunt Cecilla alerted me from downstairs.“Thank you, auntie.” Phew!! I breathed in for a long time ahh!! They were great people for distraction. I hurriedly put back my stuff in the position and waited for them to come up as I could hear their footsteps getting nearer.Knocking and opening my door, Willow comes in looking so excited. “Hey munchkin what's up! Are you good?” She asked, sitting down next to me on the bed.“Yh, I guess I'm good. How are you?” I knew another question would be thrown my way as she nodded her head answering my question, so I just opened up. “Well, I'm nervous as hell, gra
David's POVI had escaped from the gathering. I was no longer comfortable there. How I got out of there without them noticing was so fast. I went to the woods because I wanted to see her again. I wanted to know that I was not being delusional. Then I began to walk through the woods. There was this Force there like another force was in the woods as well. I bet it was not this girl, there was someone there. Then I heard footsteps, I turned and I saw that it was Evander. What exactly was he doing here? Why was he following me about the place? I wanted to be alone till I found her here, I believed she would come. “ What are you doing here?" I asked him.“ This is definitely where the ceremony is" “ I am aware"“ What are you doing here? You should not be here, let's go back” he said. " You can go, I will join you,” I said. " You and I know that it is a big lie, you will not join me, let's head back, it's dark as well” " I can use my powers to see” " It is not necessary, we shoul
David's POVIt was the full moon and the group of girls that would be definitely eliminated were already in my residence. I wanted to go into the woods and feel the scent and presence of my mate again. I couldn't do that as this was what I agreed to.I stood aloof, watching the girls as they played around the compound. I could see the joy and hopes on some of the girls' faces and that made me more angry. None of them really wanted or cared about me. They just wanted to be Luna.A thought struck my mind again. The last time I met my mate, she was running away from me.Was she afraid? Or didn't she want to be Luna like all these gold diggers that had flooded my residence now?If that's what she wanted, I was ready to step down from this Alpha position to be with her. 'But how am I going to find her again if she keeps running away from me?'I needed to devise a plan. As I was busy with my thoughts, the cackles from the girls' group were disturbing me greatly. I was already tired of thei
Charlotte's POV.He looked at me, “you'll see.” I watched as my uncle brought down the box on the table and opened it for my grandfather.“Since you've refused to get a mate, there's going to be another party soon and you're going to attend it in this dress.” He said to me, bringing out a silk material from the box.“Another party, grandpa?” I asked, already frustrated by his zeal, to see me mate. My aunt looked at me as I looked at her to help me out of the new problem but she seemed excited to see me in the dress. It was a lost cause.“Yes grandpa, I'll do just that.” I said to him snatching the gown from him and started walking towards the stairs heading to my room. “Enjoy your stay here, granddad.”He looked at me as I walked and then faced my aunt Cecilla, “ does she really not want to get mated?” He asked her. Aunt Cecilla just sighed and left the room leaving him with uncle Garret.I entered my room and sat down on my bed !! Why can't I just stay this way? Why must I be mate
