I sat up in bed, my eyes scanning the empty room immediately after Eva crept out, thinking that I was asleep. I hadn't slept; my insomnia was a constant companion. But it wasn't just the lack of sleep that troubled me – it was Eva's confession.

Letting out a deep sigh, I tried to rationalize my emotions. Our contract was ending in three to four months, and our nurse-patient relationship would conclude in a year. Feelings were out of the picture.

My phone buzzed, breaking the silence and my deep thoughts. I answered, my voice firm. "Yes?"

"Good morning, Mr. Monroe," Miss Evelyn, my secretary, chimed in.

"Good morning," I replied, my tone neutral.

"What's the reason for the call, Miss Evelyn? It's quite early." I glanced at the clock – 4:30 AM.

"I apologize for the early hour, sir. You have a meeting with the Smithson Group at 10 AM today. I wanted to confirm your attendance and brief you on the agenda."

I rubbed my temples, trying to shake off thoughts of Eva. "Go ahead."
