ALPHA JAMES POV I was surprised when I received a message from Akayla asking me to meet her at the edge of the woods. I hadn't seen or heard from her since the night she told me about Rosella’s pregnancy, and I wondered what she could want from me now.Despite my reservations, I found myself making my way towards the meeting spot, my heart racing with anticipation and anxiety. These few days have made my choices clearer and I know I’ve been playing myself. I don’t want the throne again, I know the chances of Rosella leaving Julian for me are low. Not even low, it’s non-existent. I always treated her badly and Julian showed her the exact opposite. He treated her better than I ever did and for that, she deserves peace. She deserves for me to let go of her and stop causing her pain. As I approached the clearing, I saw Akayla waiting for me, a small smile on her wrinkled face. Akayla never smiled, at least not with me. Something about the way she was looking at me made me feel uneasy.
ALPHA JULIAN’S POVI was in my office going through some paperwork when one of my guards burst in, looking distressed."Alpha Julian, we have some terrible news," he said. I tried to calm my racing heart while I tried to guess whatever could be wrong."What is it?" I asked, sensing the seriousness in his tone. I really hoped it wasn’t something terrible because I’ve had enough to deal with for this entire week and I don’t think I can handle anything worse again. "It's about your brother, Alpha James. We just received word that he passed away.” He said slowly and my heart skipped a beat. James and I may have had our differences, but he was still my brother. No matter what he did, his death was probably not deserved. "What happened?" I asked, trying to steady my voice. I was preparing myself for the worst. James wasn’t a weak man and I know he would never go down without a fight. “Nobody knows. His body is currently hanging in the town square and his eyes are gorged out. It appeared
AKAYLA’S POVI sat across from Jesse, my arms crossed as I glared at him. He had messed up, and I wasn't going to let him forget it."You let your ego get the best of you," I scolded him. What did I expect? He is truly his father’s son. Killing off James after I told him not to, but spooking off Alpha Julian and letting him know we are onto him is another thing. "You slipped up and told Julian everything. Now he knows you're after his throne.” I tried hard to control my anger but it’s hard especially someone just almost ruined something you’ve been working on since as a child. The portal of the mother’s powers is the highest thing a witch can get. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on them for the last ten decades but I keep failing terribly. The fact that I’m not a true born-blood wasn’t even helping my case at all. Rosella is my last chance to be the most powerful witch alive and I am not going to let an egoistic idiot ruin it for me. Jesse scoffed. "I don't care if he knows. He'
AKAYLA’S POV It took a while to finally convince rosella that practicing outside the palace was. Great idea, if she wanted world bending. She didn’t seem too excited the way she did the first time the lessons started but I understood. With James murder, with Jesse’s threat and a lot of other madness going on, I wouldn’t blame her if she thinks learning how to control her powers was the last thing on her mind right now. I led Rosella up to the mountain where we could be alone. She looked nervous, and I didn't blame her. I knew she was hesitant to try out the world opening magic, but it was something we needed to do."Are you sure we should be doing this?" Rosella asked, looking up at me with concern in her eyes. There was no way I would be able to pull this through if she keeps asking me every seconds. Portal magic requires total focus. The kind of focus that Rosella was missing currently. "I understand why you're scared, my dear," I said, placing a hand on her shoulder. I needed t
ROSELLA’S POV I opened my eyes to darkness, unable to see where I was. My head throbbed as I tried to remember what had happened. Then I felt a sharp pain in my arm and looked down to see a needle still sticking out of it. Panic set in as I realized that I had been drugged.Suddenly, a door creaked open and a figure entered. As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I saw Jesse sitting in front of me, his sinister smile sending shivers down my spine. I should have known that he would be responsible for this. I was sure of one thing, my mate would find me very soon. He will get me out of here and make this bastard pay for whatever he is planning to do to me. "Well, well, well, look who decided to join us," he said, his voice dripping with malice. The nerve of the man to strut like this is a freaking fashion show and like he had all the time in his hands. "What do you want from me?" I asked, trying to hide the fear in my voice. Alpha James scared me but Jesse himself felt like the human
ChapterI walked up to Rosella's door, a bouquet of flowers in hand, eager to see her smile. I had heard that she had been feeling down lately and I wanted to do something special for her. These past few days have taken a toll on all of us and I want to always remind her that no matter whatever we are going through, I would be always here with her. But as soon as I opened the door, my heart dropped. She wasn't there. Her room was empty and silent, the only sound being the flowers rustling in my hand. Something about the way things were looking felt wrong, plus she didn’t tell me she was supposed to leave home today. I tried convincing myself that maybe she took a walk to clear her head or something. Something about the fact that she could take a walk was unsettling and I wouldn’t be going with that story. I quickly walked around the room, checking every corner, every closet, every inch of the space. But she was nowhere to be found. Panic started to set in as I realized that she was
I stood there, my eyes fixed on the spot where the portal was supposed to open. It was draining the life out of me and the more I tried, the more I realize I could lose my life while at it. The whole magic was draining me and nothing was hurting me more than Anaya’s betrayal. I always thought she is my friend and I remember each time I shut Julian down because he feels like something is off with her. I don’t blame her, I blame myself for being the idiot who couldn’t see when things are going wrong. “For someone that Julian is willing to risk his whole life for, you’re kind of useless. I wasn’t expecting this kind of sluggishness from you and to be honest, stupid people get all the privileges.” Jesse called out and I froze, there’s no way I can get this done if they keep taunting me and trying to make me look useless. Opening a portal requires a lot of focus and Akayla of all people knew that well. “It’s a wonder that she hasn’t passed out yet, our little witch really has some spice
I opened my eyes to a dimly lit room, feeling groggy and disoriented. Memories of what happened before I fell asleep came flooding back to me, and I sat up abruptly. Julian was sitting in a chair beside my bed, his eyes trained on me with concern etched on his face."Hey, you're finally awake," he said, his voice soft and soothing. "How are you feeling?""I feel like I've been sleeping forever," I muttered, rubbing my eyes. "What happened?""You've been out for three days," he replied, reaching out to place a gentle hand on my shoulder. "I've been taking care of you. You were exhausted after opening the portal."I sighed, feeling grateful for him. Julian had been my rock throughout all of this, and I couldn't imagine going through it without him."Thank you for taking care of me," I said, looking up at him with gratitude. "I don't know what I would do without you.""You don't have to thank me," he replied, giving me a small smile. "I promised always to keep you safe, and I intend to k
