Chapter 4
THE WHOLE place became a battle ground for our pack and the hunters. We didn't expect them to come on a night like this, given the fact that we were considered the strongest during this time... or maybe so I thought.
Maybe we weren't.
"Lu!" I screamed when I saw him fall, struggling to see his surroundings while his own blood was blinding his left eye. At least four hunters were trying to hold him down, but Luhence managed to get back on his feet and made a loud, terrifying growl.
I wanted to say I was amazed, but I knew that wasn't enough to scare the hunters away. It was... more like a cry for help from the neighboring packs, but with the conflicts going around Nirvana District, help was something I wasn't expecting to come tonight.
With my claws, I scratched the hunters attacking me right across their chests. Blood splurted out as their flesh ripped in front of me before they fell one by one on the ground. This was the closest encounter I have had with hunters since I lost mum, but with my anger thrumming into my veins, I had no time to think of myself anymore.
I sniffed the air and realized the smoke bombs were made of wolfsbane. It made us weaker and unable to shift into our wolf form. Most of us tried, but we all failed, and if we would stay here for another hour, our lovely home would certainly become the resting place for our whole pack.
My eyes roamed until I spotted Alpha Lawrence struggling to fight three hunters. Two were holding a chain wrapped around his neck while the other was aiming a rifle at his chest.
I didn't know what got into me. Maybe I wasn't as ruthless as him, so even when I could already feel the effect of wolfsbane in my body, I found myself running towards the hunter who was about to shoot him before I attacked the other two.
Alpha Lawrence fell on the ground coughing with blood. I went on my knees and anchored his arm on my shoulders, but before I could stand up to help him get back on his feet, Alpha looked me in the eyes with an unfamiliar expression.
"Nimpha?" he called, as if he was starting to hallucinate.
I swallowed the lump in my throat before I avoided his gaze. "It's me. The one you always beat up."
He wasn't able to respond, but I felt the pinch in my heart as if for the first time, we felt connected. His own pain and longing clawed my heart, and a few memories of him with my mom filled my head.
Alpha Lawrence looked so happy while hugging my mom. He was telling her how much he loved her, and the love he had for my mom lingered in my chest, bringing tears to my eyes.
"You loved her so much..." I uttered.
Alpha looked away. "I still do..."
I sniffed and did my best to carry him. "Then I can't let you die here. Mom wouldn't like that."
Guilt crossed his face. I knew he wanted to protest but I still dragged him out of the chaotic place before he completely lose his strength. I reached the falls and made him sit on the rock before I spoke. "I'll be back. Please try to wash off the wolfsbane in your body while I get the pack's doctor."
I was about to leave when Alpha grabbed me by my arm and stopped me. When I turned to him, his tears were already forming as if he had some realizations.
"Why did... Nimpha give you her locket? What did she tell you?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat. "She said I was a product of love... and that my dad will always be with me."
Before my tears could even fall, I pulled my hand from Alpha's grip and ran back to our village. I tried to fight and defend our place, but someone managed to shoot me a couple times in my limb ang stomach.
Luhence growled in a terrifying way. He ran towards the hunter who shot me and took him doubt without mercy. Our eyes met, and before I fell on the ground, Luhence managed to catch me.
"Hang in there, baby," he said in a raspy way before he brought me to the stable.
I was already struggling to breathe. The taste of my own blood gushed down my throat when Luhence forced me to get on top of Zoro, his favorite horse.
"Leave. Save yourself. I promise you I will find you," he assured.
I shook my head. "I won't leave you here."
Luhence held me by my arm then smiled. "It's gonna be okay. Please, leave this place and wait for me."
Luhence spat the horse and it finally ran. I had no choice but to guide the horse through the woods with tears clouding my eyes. I felt weak and with no sense of direction as we wandered in the deeper part of Nirvana District. When I couldn't hold on anymore, my body fell on the ground while Zoro continued to run.
Panting and groaning, I turned my body and laid on my back. My palm tried to cover my wound in my stomach while my tears fell on the sides of my face.
No, I wasn't in pain only because I was shot and might no longer last another day. I was worried about Zenios, about Luhence, and the legacy of my mother I would've earned for her tonight if none of these happened.
I couldn't believe that I'd die this way; a hopeless pup with nothing remarkable I could leave as I faded into dust. Yes, I miss my parents, but a part of me always tells me that there's something more I must accomplish in this life before I reunite with them.
I coughed blood and struggled to breathe while I stared at the full moon up above. My heart was filled with agony, wondering why she was so loved, yet all she did to me was make me regret being alive.
My eyes shut as the gentle evening breeze caressed my wet cheeks. If this was my fate, then so be it. But it looks like Moon Goddess wasn't done with me yet, because before I finally lost consciousness, a familiar pair of golden yellow eyes met mine. My heart went wild as his strong arms scooped me from the ground. His scent smelled like the sweetest fragrance that ever lingered in my nostrils, and the way his chest offered me shelter made me question whether Luhence was really my mate or not.
Mate...
Auror whispered weakly inside my head. Her voice sounded as if we were finally safe, but when light illuminated the man's face and I realized who it was, my heart almost stopped from beating as fear thrummed in every vein in my body.
"Alpha Calgary..."
Chapter 5I could hear murmurs from somewhere. There were voices I couldn't recognize and I could tell by the way they were talking that they weren't happy with what they were discussing.I even heard a few words that slowly awakened my spirit as if it had been dormant for a long time. Their conversation coincided with the heavy rain, while I tried to blink my still heavy eyelids.Attack.Fight.Hunters.Zenios.Zenios ...My pack. What happened to our pack? Where am I? Luhence? What happened?I tried to open my eyes and scanned the whole place from the white-coated walls to every single object inside. None of it was familiar to me. Everything was foreign to me, including the scent that lingered inside the room. This wasn't my home...No matter how shitty my living situation was in Zenios, that was, without a doubt, the only home I had.Where am I?Starting to panic, I tried my best to pull myself up. I groaned when I felt the pain in every fiber in my body, as if I got slammed on the
Chapter 6MAYBE it was out of fear that even when my body was sore all over, I was able to get on my feet to run. Calgary watched me as I weakly twisted the knob. He's obviously enjoying seeing me struggle just to get away from him, but the smirk on his handsome face made me eager to leave his territory.I gritted my teeth as I struggled to walk. With my hand on my wounded tummy, I dragged myself towards the stairs and tried to hurry. Calgary's footsteps echoed behind me, and the more he was getting closer towards me, the harder my heart banged inside my chest.I can't die here. Not in this forsaken place, not when I still hadn't earned my mother's pride in Zenios. Her face appeared in my head, and as I hurried down the stairs, all my hardships in Alpha Lawrence's hands came inside my mind. It gave me the motivation to jump down the stairs as I shifted into my wolf form. I landed on all fours, and before I ran outside, I glanced at Calgary who was standing on top of the staircase, loo
Chapter 7"Damn it!" I hissed as I tried to remove the chains on my ankles. That heartless son of a bitch really tied me up in his bedroom, leaving me with no choice but to sleep next to him or hurt my back by lying on the floor.I sighed as I gave up. Auror felt so tired inside me, and if it wasn't for my pride, I would've laid on Calgary's comfortable bed by now, but instead, I sat on the floor and rested my head against the wall. How long would he keep me here? He's been sleeping soundly for a couple days while I had no choice but to sleep while sitting on the floor. If this was his way of teaching me a lesson, I'd rather go back to Alpha Lawrence and let him hurt me all day long.Familiar steps began to echo outside the room. I watched the door swing open, and when Calgary saw me looking at him, he flashed his annoying smirk before he shut the door.I quenched my eyes at him as he walked towards the rod where my chain was linked. He then wore his leather gloves and removed the sil
Chapter 8I lifted my head when the door opened. As I had expected, it was Beta Lynel again who would attend to me. For some reason, Calgary had me transferred to another room and stopped seeing me. His Beta said he had himself locked up for several days, unable to control his own wolf. Something Calgary has never experienced before."Morning," Lynel greeted with a smile. He was, by far, the nicest member of the Claivan Pack. Whenever Lynel was taking me outside so I could heal faster by connecting to nature, most of their pack members would glare at me as if I had done something terrible to them. I just assumed that it was because I was from Zenios, and all of the packs in Nirvana; Zenios, Claivan, Prudence, and Mayhem, were in conflict because of something Calgary did in the past.I pulled myself up and followed him. "Your big bad Alpha still locking himself up?" I couldn't help but ask as we walked down the stairs."Nope." He looked at me with a slight smile. "He went to Mayhem to
Chapter 9Because of the collar Calgary gave me, I was finally free to move around the house, but I still can't go outside without supervision. I got bored in my room, so I decided to go downstairs and see what I could do while I was waiting for them to bring me dinner.I found an old piano down the hall. It was dusty and looked untouched for years. I sat on the chair and opened it before I started checking if it was still working. Good thing it was. When I was young, Mom would usually play piano for me. I even remember hearing her play in the middle of the night downstairs. When I tried to come see her once, I saw someone sitting on the couch, silently watching Mom as she played her favorite piece. Now that I'm grown up and I remember it, I realized that it was probably Alpha Lawrence. My chest hurts. Maybe Mom was deeply in love with him, too. That's why I often see her staring at Alpha with so much regret. Whenever she put me to sleep, she would always tell me how much of a good ma
Chapter 10My gaze drifted from the ceiling to the door of my room when it opened. Calla went in first while holding Calgary by his hand. She's even carrying her black furry cat as she smiled sweetly at me.Calgary touched his jaw, a little shy, probably because his daughter requested to see me. Calla didn't bother me anyway. She's a nice kid and I knew how it felt like to not have my mom around, so I pulled myself up and motioned my hand to call her. "Come here, Calla."She let go of her father's hand then walked towards me. Calla doesn't talk. I still didn't know why yet but I made a mental note to ask Lynel tomorrow. When I heard Calgary clear his throat, I looked at him and waited for him to speak."She wants to sleep here... with you."Calla stared at me as if she was begging me to say yes. I smiled back at her and tucked a few strands of her brown hair towards the back of her ear. "Of course, you can. It would be nice to have a roommate who's really sweet."Her innocent eyes gli
Chapter 11: His Painful ConclusionCalgary and I took the trail leading to Zenios. We were pretty much silent the whole trip, but when we were nearing the cemetery and we had a vision of the man who used to beat me up almost every single day, Calgary noticed that I began to feel uncomfortable."Are you sure you wanna talk to him? I heard he wasn't nice to you," he asked.I swallowed the pool of saliva in my mouth when I sensed the underlying concern in his tone. That was new, and I shouldn't have been affected by it, but Auror felt happy that Calgary wasn't that rude to me anymore."Yeah. I'm familiar with his ruthless side. It's not like I'd hide behind you if he'd throw me a deadly gaze." I inhaled a deep breath down into my stomach. "Let's just go."Calgary led the way until we reached Alpha Lawrence. He was sitting in front of my Mom's tomb, staring at the withered flowers lying on her grave while he was holding a half-way done bottle of whiskey. He didn't even bother looking at u
Chapter 12: Healing HimI refused to entertain Calgary's conclusion about me being Alpha Lawrence's daughter. My Dad loved me so much, and if Calgary was right, then that means I must hate Alpha Lawrence even more. They said parents could feel a connection with their kids. If he really was my real father, how come he beats me up with no remorse? Didn't he feel anything whenever he was hurting me? My chest tightened with the thought. I let out a heavy breath and decided to come see Calla instead so my mind would be busy. After leaving Calgary's house, I walked towards his grandmother's home where Calla usually stays when Calgary wasn't around. I heard he went with Alpha Quira to talk to the council. The council is consists of some elderly members who no longer stays with their original pack in Nirvana to prevent any bias decisions. Lynel said their grandmother was offered a seat in the council of Nirvana but she politely declined because she didn't want to leave Calgary and Lynel.
Chapter 24: More Than EnoughMy body was sore all over because of the training but Calgary's presence helped me heal faster. When Hyrum's men came during dinner to inform us that help had finally arrived and the perimeters were safe, somehow, he felt a sense of relief even for a short while."Would you like some more soup?" I asked Calla while we sit on the table with Ahma, Lynel, Alpha Lawrence, and Calgary.Calla nodded happily. "Thank you, Mommy," she said before giving me a sweet smile.Calgary caressed his daughter's hair before he leaned to me. "We'll just talk about something in my office. Finish your food."I jerked my head in response. When he left with Lynel, Ahma, and Alpha Lawrence, I stood up carrying Calla's bowl to get her more soup, but Lindsey immediately followed me to the table where the caserole was.She crossed her arms and shot up a brow at me. "Getting so comfy playing the fake mommy and wife role, huh?"I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Not now. I'm too tire
Chapter 23: A Taste of EuphoriaSomehow, the talk I had with Alpha Lawrence a few days ago, helped us communicate a little better. He no longer avoids me that much, and I could speak to him directly now without feeling aneasy.I took a series of deep breaths to center myself just like what Alpha Lawrence instructed me to do. He was circling around me, holding a silver knife and ready to attack me any moment now."Tracking is more than just following a scent nor listening to your surrounding. It's connecting to everything around you, being one with the ground, the wind, and every living thing that you can reach, but your gift has no use if you're too slow to dodge an attack," said Alpha Lawrence, an in a blink of an eye, we has already behind me, the knife was only half an inch away from my throat.Goodness, he was really fast. No wonder he was known for his combat skills. Now I wanted to think his Luna poisoned him on the night of the selection, because I know for sure that with his s
Chapter 22: A Painful TalkI didn't know if I was anxious because I would be training with Alpha Lawrence today or I was just worried because Calgary joined his Deltas last night to guard our territories. No matter how many times I rolled over my bed, I couldn't really bring myself to sleep. Maybe I was both anxious and worried, but despite the lack of sleep, I still got up before sunrise to prepare for my first day of training. When I went down to get myself some coffee to wake me up, Alpha Lawrence was already in the kitchen, making himself some brewed coffee. As if he realized that I was planning to get myself some, he cleared his throat and saved a cup for me.I pursed my lips as I walked the length towards the cupboard. My heart was going crazy with the silence enveloping us, and when I finally had the courage to glance his way, I spoke."G--Good morning, Alpha."He paused from taking a sip but he didn't look at me. "Just because we're in Claivan doesn't mean I'll be nice during
Chapter 21: Her Special Ability"Prudence just lost the last of their best trackers. All we have right now is Hyrum," said Calgary as we gathered at the pack house with Alpha Quira, her Beta, Ariz, Lynel, Alpha Lawrence and Ahma.My fingers clasped. The atmosphere around was too thick, probably because we all know that our District is in so much trouble.Mayhem had no trackers for two decades now while Claivan was never given any. Trackers are special types of wolves who can sense anything even when it was miles away. They were born with the strongest senses. Some show their abilities early like Mom, some were late bloomers.Zenios' tracker was my mother that's why even when she was only a Beta she-wolf back then, she would always work hand in hand with Alpha Lawrence because she was very significant to our pack.I saw Alpha Lawrence straightened his back. "If Nadine was able to sense Luhence while everybody else didn't, maybe that's because she inherited Nimpha's abilities."All eyes
Chapter 20: A Storm is ComingDried leaves whipped into the foggy air as Calgary and I ran faster through the woods. His wolf kept on challenging Auror, but with us finally gaining back our strength, she showed him we were their equal. Auror jumped over a fallen tree and rolled over the thick bed of dried vegetation before she gained her momentum again, but Calgary's wolf was fast enough to stop Auror from jumping over the cliff.Auror let out a whimper of affection as Calgary's wolf licked her face. She rubbed her head on his neck, gaining more power from the bond we share with our mate. We had been running for hours, but our hunger for freedom felt insatiable. Auror and I had never been permitted to roam around Nirvana this way, but with Calgary accompanying us, we knew we would be safe.Calgary's wolf howled, telling us to finally go back. I felt Auror's desire to ask for a little more time, but when thunders began roaring in the sky, she changed her mind and followed Calgary's wol
Chapter 19: Meeting His WolfAfter Lynel took Calla to Ahma's house, Calgary and I went out for a walk in the woods. I realized he would explain why his daughter called me 'Mommy', maybe he was thinking that I didn't like it at all.As soon as we got deeper into the woods, I cleared my throat and looked at him. "It's the first time I heard Calla speak."There was a glint of loneliness in his eyes when he met my gaze. "She stopped talking since her mother left us. She was barely four... and that was the worst night of my life not because I just lost my Luna, but because Calla's painful plea for her mother not to go was the last thing we heard from my daughter."I swallowed when my chest felt a different kind of pain, as if Calgary was letting me feel how he felt the night his Luna left to be with someone else. Maybe if I was in his shoes, I wouldn't be able to handle the pain, and I know, even if Calgary wasn't telling me, what his Luna did left a scar in his heart. A fear that no matt
Chapter 18: Jealous"Are you sure it was him?" asked Alpha Lawrence as soon as I settled on the vacant space next to Calgary.I rubbed my cold palms on my thighs as I swallowed the lump in my throat. What happened still scare the shit out of me, because I knew I wasn't hallucinating."It's him. I can't be wrong," I answered, my voice almost tremble.Calgary breathed out a heavy breath before he slightly moved closer to me. Maybe he felt I needed a little comfort, so he placed his palm on my lower back before he stroked my slightly revealed skin with his thumb. "Try to calm down a bit."Ahma picked up her cup of tea to take a small sip before she spoke. "If it was him, then Calgary may be right.""Right about what?" Alpha Lawrence asked."About Luhence and your wife being part of Sigma." Calgary leaned against the backrest of the couch. "Quira had a hunch that Luhence wasn't really yours. We all know Felicity used to date a hunter in secret, before she won the fight against Nimpha."I
Chapter 17: A Different ManWith a loudly banging heart inside my chest, I immediately ran outside, searching for the trail of Luhence's scent. I knew it was him. I had already gone familiar with my boyfriend's scent, and as soon as I saw him a few meters away from the West border of Claivan, Auror stopped me from taking another step."Lu?" I called. He turned to face me, but when I saw his face, Auror warned me to go back to the village because it was too obvious that something had changed about Luhence. He looked... stronger, as if there was something else running through his veins besides his Alpha blood. Considering that he wasn't surrounded by his people, his scent was not supposed to smell this much power."Babe..." He flashed a smile. "I missed you. Can you come here, please?"Don't. Auror warned me again, and my gut told me to listen to my wolf.I swallowed the pool of saliva in my mouth as I balled my fists. "What happened to you? Why did you and your Mom go missing? Are you
Chapter 16: A Familiar ScentHolding the tray of food for Alpha Lawrence, I swallowed the lump in my throat before I pushed the door open. He was already staying at Calgary's house, healing the injuries and wounds he got from defending my mother's grave. It was awkward when our eyes met, but he was the first one to look away as if he didn't want to see my rims that always reminds him of my mother. When the door shut behind me, I placed his food on the small table sitting on the corner near the door that was leading towards the veranda."Calgary left to investigate," I said as soon as I turned to face him.He let out a heavy breath. "You're supposed to address him as Alpha. It's disrespectul to call someone of authority by their first name.""I haven't submitted to him yet. Technically, you are still my Alpha considering that Luhence is nowhere to be found," I replied. For the first time in my life, I was able to speak to him that long, as if a part of me was sure that he was no longer
