‘Run’ the voice screamed in my head waking me from a deep slumber, ‘run far from here' it screamed again.I was shocked when I hear why, the screams of the innocent being killed outside the palace walls filled me with terror. I followed the voice's orders as I ran to gather my things quickly, also grabbing what I needed for a long journey for my mistress.“Anna,” I said under my breath as I passed the stairs. I look down the stairs longingly before starting down them. I grab a handful of empty sacks before I grab the keys on the wall.“Anna, wake up Anna,” I say as I unlock her manacles from her ankles and wrists. I grab her hands as soon as I was done releasing the people beside her.“Here take these and run for the mountain. There are two willow trees that hide a cavern and tunnels inside the mountain. Go there and take as many with you as you can.” I say as I hand her the empty sacks and start towards the stairs.“Wait, Veatrice. I want to go with you” Anna pleaded as she followed
“What are you doing here human,” growled the white alpha as she sat down. I looked at the alpha with a calm stare.“I was being chased by the king of Draggerfall. Please forgive me for intruding in your forest. I will leave as soon as I reach the shore and get transport to Serrileone,” I said as I stepped forward bowing in respect to the guardians of the forest.“No, you will come with us,” growled the black wolf to the left of the alpha.“Yes, you will come with us to our castle,” the brown wolf to the right of the alpha said as he came forward sniffing the air around me. I was still bowing my head in respect when the brown wolf suddenly licked my face. My head shot up as I stumbled slightly backward as he licked my face again. I fall on my backside as he nipped my turban, removing it completely. Braids of hair cascaded down around my head as I sat on the ground wide-eyed. The brown wolf dropped my turban cloth on my lap and sat in front of me.“Welcome to the Bireinen forest, sister
“I will see you soon my sweet Anna, farewell for now,” Veatrice says to me before darting to the Queen’s quarters.‘Be safe Veatrice, please be safe,’ I think as I run towards the kitchen to do as my sister asked. I grab enough food for me and at least five others, putting and feather-light spell on the pack before placing it on my back. I grab a small sword and three daggers along with a belt that I attach to my waist. I take two more daggers and slip them into the knee-high boots I had grabbed.“Anna we can’t take these. The guards will whip us,” Louise, my best friend, says in a panic coming up behind me. I fit her with boots two daggers and tuck her skirt into a belt I cinch around her waist.“The guards are going to be too busy fighting to care about us,” I say swearing under my breath before turning to those that were behind us.“Grab what you can carry and what you need to fight. Do not take anything you can’t use in the mountains,” I yell as I run to the door to check if the c
There were about thirteen soldiers and two mounted horses. They yell as they charge me and I slide into a fighting stance Vea had taught me. I sidestep two blades and drive my sword into the chest of the third soldier that was behind them to the left. I pull a dagger from my belt as I turn my back to the third soldier and drive it into the throat of one of the soldiers surrounding me. I adjust my grip on my sword and pull it from the chest before flipping over the soldiers’ heads, landing outside of the circle, after kicking two more in the head. I throw my dagger at the mounted soldier, pulling another as I drag my sword across another throat. ‘Five down, keep going’ I think to myself as I throw the dagger in my hand into the air. I send a spell to it to guide it around the circle that formed around me again. I see it slit three more throats as a parry a blade headed for my head. I dodge again and again barely feeling the blade's scratch my arms and legs as I fight. I feel the spell
The hall was lit just enough to see a young boy darting through them. He stops at the kitchen and helps the cook and a few servants collect travel supplies before telling them to get to the stables as fast as they can. Once he passes off the message, he is off again, darting through the halls looking for the queens’ midwives. He ran for a while through the dimly lit halls before finding them and some slaves heavy with bags, making their way slowly to the stables. “Come on, hurry,” the boy yells grabbing a few bags to lighten their load as he starts to lead them at a faster pace to the stables. “Jace… is there time for us?” one of the midwives asks besides the boy slightly out of breath. Jace, the boy born and raised in the castle, that worked in the kitchen, simply smiled at the woman. “Do not worry, Mama Grey, we will make it,” Jace reassures the older woman, the one that helped his mother give birth and raise him after she passed. The other two midwives smile at the nickname of t
It was the quiet shuffling of papers that arose me from slumber. I turn in my silky sheets towards the desk I remember in the corner before opening my eyes. I am greeted by a smile as Aias turns to face me and the bed. He wore a loose-fitted tunic of light blue, that was untucked, with brown pants and soft-looking brown leather slippers. His hair is down, so different from the tight braids pinned to the crown he had from the night before. The copper-red curls fell free, over his shoulders almost to his navel. They frame his face, casting a copper hue across his face and eyes. “Good morning, Sweet One,” Aias says sweetly moving to the bed, perching on the edge. I sit up abruptly waving my hand out towards the curtains, opening them with a spell, revealing the sun just peeking over the horizon outside the windows. “What? How long have I been asleep?” I question franticly staring at Aias with wide eyes. “It has been three days, Sweet One,” Aias says slightly in awe at the wordless mag
The sounds of a busy market fill the air even if we were still so far away. Shop owners call out to us as we pass, calling us in to look at the different wares and products for sale. Aias takes me to so many different shops I start to lose count of costs, always sending the purchases back to the castle. I do make sure to keep track of the things I select for my trip, however. Blankets, sleeping roll, food, and water pouches, travel pack, herbs for cooking and for healing, and of course last but not least weapons. My eyes widen at the selection that the blacksmith had for sale as Aias and I walked into the store. My eyes catch on a set of throwing daggers, in the front display case. The daggers were black with red on the back of the blade, and the tip of the hilt, and they were wrapped with green leather straps around the hilt and handles. Their sheaths were the same green leather with a red flame design on them.“May I see these please,” I ask the store clerk politely. The woman behin
