Chapter One

"Damn it I'm late." June cursed swinging her handbag over her shoulder and continued running through the busy streets of New York whilst her messy pony tail kept brushing her neck.

She hated how crowded it always got around the dusk while many folks were rushing about for a family dinner, a handsome sleep at night and everything else. She rushed about for her third shift.

It was almost weekend so she had gotten plenty of time to close her eyelids, since Mrs. Smith didn't work on Fridays June didn't have to babysit the Smith twins which was so relieving but that meant little cash too much to June's dismay.

She took a sharp turn around the corner down the road where large and lighted letters came to life.

MARS.

Just like the planet or just like the month itself in French.

Music was buzzing throughout the entire place by the time she entered through the back door. Meaning she was late and they've opened.

"Just about damn time." A voice snapped and June flinched as she prayed that today wouldn't probably be her last day.

"I'm so sorry Lucy. There's this thing that came up and it was so important I couldn't leave it unattended." June says.

"Oh I'm so sick of this and that coming up. Fifty bucks off."

"But-" June protested only to be cut off.

"What?" Lucy asks facing June her little hands tucked away in her pair of white jeans she wore.

"Look I don't care if it was your mother or someone else died. It's life. And if you don't want to at least collect the remaining, you can always leave. Door is never closed darling." With that Lucy leaves

"Hey." Zach greeted already dressed to serve in the private lounges.

"Hi." June replied which sounded more like groaning.

"Late?" Zach asks and June just nods.

"Salary cut?" He asks again and June nods again.

"God! I swear that woman's mercy is as short as her height." Zach commented and June only chuckled.

"That'd mean she'd be invisible. I see NO mercy." She replied

"How is your mother?" He asked maintaining an eye contact with June.

At the mention of her mother, her face darkened and her smile waved a goodbye.

"Still the same." She replied her voice breaking worry coming to the surface like a swirling unwanted tornado.

"Hey, it's okay. Everything will be alright. I'm here." He tries to coo her but she just shakes her head instead.

"I don't want to burden you. In fact you can't even possibly get all that money." She says with a sigh looking at her feet's before looking back at Zach's face.

He was her best friend but she was always the type that wouldn't burden others with her own problems. She trusted she was okay with anything and she could deal with it alone.

"But I love you." She said with a smile on her face before hugging him stealing the warmness from the hug she stole from Zach.

"I know and that's why you're going to let go of me while i go and do my job." he says kissing June's temple and she smiles.

"Of course." she says as he starts walking to the door leading to the inside of the club from the staff's room.

"Fifty bucks off for standing right there and not getting dressed." he shouts before disappearing and June turns on her heels giggling to get her uniform on.

She gets on her pants and shirt which she feels are too tight and get inside the club ready to face a mass of hungry vulture starving for a taste of being high and drunk, and minutes later everyone had started feeling tipsy or had rushed to the dance floor next door.

All built according to Lucy's wishes and that's the next thing June was grateful of her boss except her salary of course.

"What's up with the long face?" a small voice asks with excitement.

"Nothing much, but the gravity itself." June replies looking at the woman in front of her.

"What can i get you?" she asks with a fake smile coming up on her lips while the woman smirks and bites her lips.

"you." she replies and June really does well to hide her surprise by leaning forward on the counter her lips lined up with a teasing smile.

She eyed carefully the woman on the other side. She wore a ring and her lips were painted perfectly red, her face perfectly made up and her scent screamed of money. And all of this only seemed to confuse June more.

“Clara!” a masculine voice called behind the woman and June couldn’t help but be tempted to look at the giving source.

And when she did she didn’t know when to stop. In front of her stood a tall handsome man with an athletic body, chiseled jaw line on display for her, black hair neatly combed on either sides of his head. He wore a black suit, cream white shirt and a black tie, his wrist wrapped up by a golden expensive watch.

He was handsome in every way June could have ever imagined and those black eyes of his, gazed at her thoughtfully and it was at this that June noticed she was still staring at the man that she looked away and pretended she was cleaning the bar her mind still wandering on the man.

She felt like she had known him or she had seen him.

“Mr. White! You came!” the woman, now revealed Clara exclaimed and June immediately knew where she knew him.

Of course the best celebrity tycoon. Miles White. Flawless and spotless plus daringly handsome, more than the magazines had portrayed.
