The very next day June was to meet Clara Donovan at the address she had sent her via text and when she stood in front of the building.
'oh boy this was not a meet up place, it is a freaking large company.' she had thought amused.
The building was so tall, around eight stories high. June walked in slowly feeling sensitive as people gazed at her. she had tried her best to look presentable to meet Clara. Clara was wealthy obviously so June didn't want to embarrass herself by looking like a little garbage.
She wore a black skirt hugging her curves which stopped just above her knees with a pink peplum top tucked in and a simple pair of black stilettos. Her hair was let down in a long neat ponytail making her face features seem exposed.
June walked to the lobby attendant and asked if she could see Clara Donovan. The lady at the desk looked kind and had smiled at her the entire time, and after a minute she told her that Clara would be on the seventh floor.
June thanked the lady and headed for the elevator unfortunately they were all up except one which was open.
The moment she got in she was met with gorgeous brown eyes and cute little chubby cheeks.
"Hi," she greeted with a small smile. The little said nothing but smiled brightly at June
She liked kids ever since she was young. She had always wanted to have a sibling but it just never happened.
"Do you work here?" The little woman asked, beaming at June's face.
"No. Just here to see someone." June replied looking at the child who seemed to be at least around three years old.
"Oh I just thought. Would you like some candy?" She asks and June can only smile at the kind soul she had encountered.
"Yes please." June replied, handing out her hand to the little one only to be rewarded with three colorful wrapped candies.
"Thank you. You're kind." June smiled at the child.
"And you're beautiful." The child beamed again with a wide smile.
"I'm blushing. It was nice meeting you now I gotta go." June said, bending a little to meet the child's height and placing both her arms on both her shoulders as the elevator dings open.
She kisses the child lightly on her cheeks and steps out waving a goodbye and says thanks again for the candy before disappearing around the corner after the elevator shuts close and goes up.
The girl at the front desk looked tired as hell and seemed to be on the verge of losing her sanity; one more second and she'd be dead. didn't she know makeup existed? June thought.
she knew because she used them every now and then when she got bags under her eyes due to sleep deprivation hustling in the day. The girl led her to an office. The floor looked like only top heads of departments worked here. It was quiet with a single font desk and the rest were offices which were only five in total.
The girl knocked and announced that June was here to see Clara before holding the door wide open for her, June entered and the door closed behind her and heels echoed throughout the hall as the girl marched back to her desk.
"June. it's lovely to see you." Clara said cheerfully, hugging her.
"You look good." June said complimenting Clara's choice of style.
she wore a velvet business suit and a white shirt with white heels, hair let down and her big ring on the display of course.
'She must be proud of her husband.' June thought with a smile on her face.
"drink?" Clara asked and June only shook her head in denial. She never, ever drinks.
"I'm good." she adds
"I didn't think you're supposed to drink during working hours?" June asked rather than state the obvious as Clara poured herself a drink.
"says who? I work better when I drink." she replied dismissing the matter with her hand.
"So straight to the business." she says sitting down and taking a sip before placing the glass at a glass table surrounded by sofas.
"Do you have a plan?" June asks Clara, wanting to be notified and informed of the entire plan so that nothing goes wrong.
"Of course there's a plan." she replies her voice relaxed
"How dangerous is this thing actually?" June asks her heart, already considering turning on her heels and leaving this place and forgetting about meeting Clara Donovan in her life.
"Much more dangerous than the death itself." Clara replies, taking another sip.
June's heart skips a beat and she considers once more standing up and leaving but she sits still. Something in her tells her there might be some light in the darkness, and to catch it she has to move forward.
"What's my role?" she asks adrenaline already rushing in her veins, guilt for not telling her mother chewing on her heart like a cheap gum.
"Well, I influence the people that get hired in the company or our boss's households and no spot can be any better than working inside their home. That's why next week you're going to go there as a nanny. The most oblivious yet obvious position. No one will care, because trust me, rich people are way too narcs to notice what's going on." Clara says finishing all of her drinks and looks at her watch.
"A nanny?" June asks again while Clara says nothing. She just prays and hopes that the kids won't be naughty like the smiths' twin.
"What about my mother?" she asks and Clara just then leans forward.
"You find anything you tell and show me. Your mother gets taken care of." she says clearly emphasizing every word.
"Why should I trust you?" June asks, trying to read the woman's face to see if she finds any hint.
"You already did. or you wouldn't have come here." She replies, taking the glass away.
"Why would you trust me?" June asks curiously to which Clara chuckles at.
"First, you're curious and eager and I can satisfy all of that by letting you destroy the man who destroyed your family, second you have too much to lose." Clara says, checking herself in the mirror and applying her lipstick.
"Who am I dealing with again?" June asks, remembering she hadn't been given a name.
"Miles White." Clara replied and June's heart dropped.
Whoever didn't know whose name that was, was probably unalike. No way she had gotten herself in this much trouble with the Whites. They were a lineage of endless billionaires and anything they blessed bloomed but what they cursed, withered.
But then when she remembered why she was doing all of this, she didn't care if she shot down the president as long as she learned what happened amidst lies and truth for her deceased father's sake and her mother's treatment she was even more willing to tear apart the world for them.
June sat on the bench holding her mother's pale hand. She looked like a beautiful flower whose nectar was sucked off along with its life. But she never failed to smile whenever she saw her daughter. She wore a red beanie and a scarf around her neck. Her fragile figure sat in a wheelchair covered by a turtleneck sweater and a pair of pants, feet covered in white socks."You look so lost today." She commented in her small voice giving her daughter a small pat on her shoulder."What?" June asked, looking shocked for a while recovering from her thoughts."Is there any problem? Perhaps work?" Her mother asked but June had to shake her head in denial."Nothing much. Just shifting to a new job." she added to her mother's slightly raised brows."It's not like your first day in kindergarten. You'll do fine because you're my flesh." Her mother said, holding her daughter's face in her hands with a warm bright smile."Please don't mention it already." June replied with chuckles at the memory of h
The door opened and behind it stood a middle aged tan woman in a dark blue and white uniform and June could only assume that the woman was a housemaid. The woman's face lit up with a small smile as she held the door open for June to enter."You must be the nanny?" The maid asked June, still standing in the doorway."Yes." June nodded with a small smile and the maid moved out of the way for June to enter into the foyer of the mansion."Madame is waiting for you in the garden, follow me." The maid offered to which June accepted with a simple nod.Well this was everything's starting line. She felt nervous but she had to do it, to go in there and betray strangers she never met. Her mother was dying and this was her only hope. She
June's feet carried her behind Mr. White who kept a steady pace as he led her down the corridor and took another turn to a long corridor with a single room at the end. Reaching the door he paused and looked at June as if considering his thoughts before pushing the door open and walking inside while leaving it open for June to follow him in.She had to admit that whatever she expected was in no way anything similar to what she encountered. She had anticipated love like a magical fairy roller-coaster tale like Lydia and Miles always looked like in the magazines or interviews. She hadn't fantasized about the idea of a cheating boss. That was out of her imagination since she never sympathized with dishonesty or cheaters and right now she was on the verge of talking her piece of mind out loud to Mr. White if he hadn't pre
The whole afternoon was slightly uncomfortable for June since Mr. White had insisted on keeping company with his daughter, Kiah. the sweet little one that June had met when she went to see Clara.Upon seeing her, she was happy and relieved that the child was sweet unlike many of the other kids she had babysat. she had tried to avoid his gaze or any communication. He didn't want to talk to her after the theater but he only wanted to look at her."Daddy?" Kiah broke the silence over the table. After the dentist appointment, she wanted a day out with her daddy since he was never really around most of the time. Now they were sitting in one of the expensive comfiest restaurants in town while outside his bodyguards were loaded with weapons hidden and on display as if there was
The ride back home was tense and I barely breathed.I lied to White when he asked if I had touched the laptop, and now I was praying so hard that the man Clara has said would take care of the footages already did.Kiah sat snuggled next to me in her father's expensive Mercedes. She would steal glances at me every now and then and throw me innocent, cute smiles, which I'd return. She looked like she now liked me already. The car slowly pulled up in front of the front door and White immediately sprinted out of the car without saying a word.Meanwhile I stayed behind waiting up for Kiah to decide whether she wanted to go inside or not."Do you think I should play outside?" Kiah's voice snapped me out of my trance.I had my fingers crossed that I wouldn't get caught."Well, it depends on what you'd like to play," I said gently, bending to her level my hands now on my knees. She scrunched her nose then started humming as if she was trying to think of she wanted."What games do you play?" I opened my eyes to search for my phone which kept ringing non stop."Why didn't I turn it off?" i muttered to myself in a groan.Normally, I would turn off my phone or put it in a do not disturb mode before I went to sleep.I lazily reached across the bed to the night stand and grabbed it and decided that this time I'll answer it."Hello?" I lazily picked up the phone."Are you sleeping?" My mother's voice immediately jolts me awake.Panic starts to kick in, my heart thrashing wildly in my chest."Are you okay mom? Do you need anything? Are you sick?" I ask immediately getting on my feet in alarm."Good morning to you too." She answers instead with a sweet chuckle.I check my phone to see I have ten missed calls from her already."How are you?" I ask, sitting at the edge of my bed still worried although she sounded fine."You need to calm down love," she pauses for a second but my heart refuses to calm down. Instead it feels like it was about to burst."So what's up? You called me te
"Hello?" White's voice came through from the other line confused.Of course, Kiah would usually call her father in the evening before her bedtime. But for some odd reasons she never contacted her mother.Perhaps she was too busy to find time for her own daughter."Daddy!" Kiah's excitedly chirped the moment she heard her father."How are you my love?" White asked ever so softly his daughter. His voice was smooth and tender. It was just so soothing to hear as he talked to Kiah."I'm not good." Kiah said in a low voice. Her act was so good that White was worried the next second. "What's wrong? Isn't that friend of yours with you?" He asked his voice laced with concern and worry.Of course I was listening to the whole conversation and something in my turned when he mentioned me as that friend instead of my name which I doubted he even knew.'At least he didn't call you that nanny' my subconscious chimed in."She is but still," Kiah replied deliberately pausing to raise the concern in h

I followed closely behind White as he led me gently through his guests. I managed to plaster an elegant smile on my face; I could feel the heat on my body as jealous women stared at me. Of course they had to be jealous, who wouldn’t want White holding your hand?‘Me.’ I mentally screamed at myself. The plan was to catch something scandalous to taint white, not to be his plus one. Or companion. Whatever he calls it.I softly bump into his firm back, making him turn to look at me. He had stopped to talk to one of the guests, he looked old with gray white hairs but his skin was smooth and lacked wrinkles.‘Ah money.’ I remarked. He wore a dark gray suit, with a white shirt. Besides him stood a younger woman almost as my age or even younger than me, like most men in the room did. She wore a ton of makeup on her face and a red flirtiest daring dress, which firmly hugged her figure.“Are you okay my dear?” White, whom I suppose didn’t even know my name asked incredibly tender and gentle.I
