Chapter 83

Maya's POV

I sauntered back into the house, a feeling of unease settling in my stomach.

Aunt Gomez's expression had carried a look that was very familiar to me. She most likely had bad news for me.

"So, what did you want to talk about, Aunt?"

I asked as I slid onto one of the stools under the island.

"Well, Maya, it's about your dad." She turned around and paced.

That was enough to upset my stomach.

"Is he okay?" I asked, agitated. The last time I had spoken to him, he'd said he was fine even though I felt like he wasn't and that was barely 36 hours ago.

"Yeah, he is fine, no need to worry but there's a problem."

Her tone made the hair in the back of my neck stand at attention.

"What do you mean?" I asked, side eyeing my aunt. If my father was okay then she was about to tell me something I wasn't going to like, I could feel it.

She slid onto the stool opposite me, clasped her hands together and looked me in the eye.
