*BRIANNE’S POV*

Nobody in the pack knew. Only close family knew, and they wouldn’t say anything.

Unless someone was watching.

The thought crept in slowly, like a shadow in the corner of my mind. What if Marcus had been watching me all this time? What if he had never really left, and I just hadn’t seen him?

The idea was unsettling, and it sent a chill down my throat.

I walked over to the window and pulled the curtains open. The night sky stretched out before me, the moon casting its pale light over the streets.

From here, it looked very calm, and serene, but I knew better. I had learned long ago that the world wasn’t always as peaceful as it appeared. Secrets were lurking in the dark, things hidden just beneath the surface.

I leaned against the window for the second time. I couldn’t afford to let Marcus get into my head. Not again. I had spent too long rebuilding my self-esteem when he left. Too long convincing myself that I was better off without him.
