Chapter 63

*BRIANNE’S POV*

I slowly brought the spoon to my mouth, but the food tasted sour. I paused, staring at the spoon for a moment before setting it back down on the plate. Around me, the clinking of cutlery against plates, the soft murmurs of conversation, it was all so…normal. But inside, my mind was anything but normal.

I glanced around the table, my mother was sitting across from me, her attention focused on slicing through her steak. My father, to her left, was sipping his wine slowly, his gaze occasionally flicking to the evening news playing quietly in the background.

My brother sat next to me, seemingly engrossed in his, as if the world outside the screen didn’t exist.

To anyone else, it looked like an ordinary family dinner…a quiet, uneventful evening.

But inside me, a storm was brewing.

I couldn’t focus on the food, nor could I keep track of the conversations drifting across the table.
