CHAPTER 24

“Luna.” Ashford called out as he glanced down at her.

He was still flying to that pack and hadn't gotten there yet. His heart was pounding in his chest; she wasn't clutching to him. She was dangling in his arms.

Increasing his pace, in a few more minutes he was standing in front of her house and kicking the door open.

“Father!” He yelled out.

Hearing his voice, Bartram came running down the stairs. By this time, Ashford was already laying her on the couch. Bartram glanced at his daughter before hurrying to the door and pulling it close.

“What happened to her?” Bartram demanded. “You should have protected her!"

“I had no idea that she was going to be targeted."

“Why were you even there with her in the first place if you couldn't protect her?!”

“Father, this is not the time!”

“We are talking about my baby here, and you are saying that it isn't the time!"

Ashford took a deep breath. “I will try healing her.”

“Let me hold her. What happened?”

Ignoring Bartram, he held her hand and watched
