Tanya POV

Even as I said it, I knew it would not be enough. I was once again beating about the bush and trying to say anything just to stop them from killing him immediately. He seemed to realize it because he looked at me as if I was trying to get him killed. I looked away, knowing that the men were no fools either. It would not be long before they realized what I was trying to achieve, and then he would be dead.

I wish there were another way, I thought to myself, but I can't let them have that information.

"Are you done talking?" he asked me. "You haven't given me anything valuable yet. You seem not to want him to survive. Do you know that you are next after him?"

I said nothing, hearing the countdown from 5 to 1 repeat itself in my mind. It was not going to be long before he died from the way things were going.

"Please stop," he said. "I have something important to say."

Enzo looked at him with a questioning expression. "It better be very important. If it is not, then

Tanya's POV I cried all I wanted, but no one seemed to care. Nobody came to check on me for the next few hours, giving me enough breathing space. I couldn’t help but look at his body once in a while, feeling the guilt weighing on me. If I had given them the information they wanted, it wouldn’t have happened this way. “It’s my fault,” I said to myself. “I should have told them. Now he’s dead because of me.” I somehow expected something to happen, but after waiting for a long while, there was still nothing. The room would have been empty if not for his body in the corner. I was starting to get disgusted by it. It was not only disgusting me but haunting me. I needed it out of here if I would stay by myself. “I can’t sleep with you staying here,” I said to him with a sad expression. I rushed up to the door and banged on it, trying to get it to open. “Hey, guys!” I called. “Come and take his body away!” I did this for a couple of minutes until I got tired. I was also hungry now

Tanya's POV He ordered for food to be brought to the room. I didn't want to eat, even though I was very, very hungry; my appetite left me at the moment Henry died. "Get a table and some furniture also," he said to the people he kept ordering about. I didn't know whether they were his slaves or whether they were paid to do it, but they seemed to serve happily. "I wonder what the hierarchy here is," I said to him, wanting to strike up a conversation until he was ready to tell me what he wanted. "It is quite nice," he said, "but it is none of your business. You do not need to think about or bother yourself with it." Seeing that he would not tell me about it, I decided not to ask him again but started thinking about another way to keep him off the topic of my eating. I didn't want him to ask me why I did not want to eat because it would make it difficult for me to abstain. He might even try to force me, for all I knew. Soon, the table was set. He looked at me, noticing that

Tanya's POV He seemed to enjoy my resistance because he smiled at me. "I think the conversation has lasted enough," he told me. After saying that, he stood up and gave me a particularly disturbing look. "I will be back, but now I have to make a call." He started moving away with his phone but then stopped. "On second thought, you should hear what I wanted to say to the other person," he said. "Don’t think you can scare me," I responded. "I have seen a lot of things in my life, and plenty of them are scary. Whatever you are planning to say to the other person can't possibly move me." "Who said I was trying to scare you?" he asked. "But it would be rather wise to be scared. I want you to know which side you should pick and how to approach when we talk next time." He slowed down after that, making his voice deliberately lower. "When we are talking about far more important things." I did not need a soothsayer to tell me what he was referring to. I looked away, angry that he

Tanya's Pov For the next couple of days, I was bored and scared. I felt like the longer I stayed in the little cell of a room they locked me in, the more I would lose a piece of my mind. I was already feeling like I was going a bit insane. The man had not been courteous enough to give me a good enough room. Hell, he did not even let me stay in the room where we had had the not-so-pleasant conversation that led to the whole thing in the first place. No, he moved me into a smaller room, one that was dark and murky. 'Gloomy,' he had called it with a smile on his face before he left me to suffer and rot. It had high windows and damp floors. The walls were black and made of some disgusting material. I knew all that from when I could get a bright light to see by. The room was dark and foreboding, accentuating my torture. The door was only opened about twice a day to feed me. It was enough to tell that I was being malnourished, along with all the other things that contributed to my

Tanya's POV I was seated at the table facing Enzo, getting ready for whatever he wanted to say to me. Throughout, he had been eating ferociously, but I didn't have the appetite. "You should really eat," he said to me slowly. "This might be the last good meal you have." I considered his words carefully and decided that he was right. If he actually wanted to starve me after this, then it was very possible, and there would be nothing for me to do to prevent him. I should have a very good meal before that happens. I started eating, and he stopped, watching closely. "You are pretty, do you know that?" he asked slowly, as if to charm me with his voice. If that was what he wanted, then he could continue dreaming; it was never going to happen. I said nothing in response, focusing on the food as if it was more important than he was. "I'm only saying this for your best interest," he said to me. "Now, Dante has commanded us not to touch you, and you might be safe for a while, but

Tanya's POV "You will do well to reconsider your decision," he said to me in a voice that sounded dangerous. I knew that he was right and I should think about it rationally, but I couldn't imagine him with me in any way. I wasn't going to let it happen when I had the choice. "I'm getting your eyes away," he said, giving me a look that suggested it was definitely going to happen. I didn't know where his confidence came from, but I had a feeling that it was not unfounded. He was in control of me even now, and the only thing keeping him away was the order that I should be kept for Dante. When he came and saw me, I was pretty sure the order would be lifted. There was a good chance then that he would not care about anything done to me, even if I was raped every day by the men. "I'm not going to agree," I said, against my better judgment. I was definitely not going to sell myself for a day or two of enjoyment; that would only make it easier for them to break me. "Well, I am not al

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 96: MEET THE DEVIL

Tanya's POV As expected, the room I was taken to was worse than the former one. I didn't know any words to describe it, but it was dark and foreboding. The window was even higher than the one in the last room, and as I had expected, the air was less compared to the former one. It was as if they were trying to punish me with suffocation, along with the others. The food that was given to me was a lot less than what I had before in the previous room. I was well aware that I would be punished for rejecting his offer, but I didn't think it would be this way. "Well, he should keep dreaming," I thought to myself as I passed the time by thinking about everything. There was nothing else for me to do throughout the days except to reflect on my past mistakes and think of what I should have done instead. "This is not fair," I said to myself in annoyance. It was as if I was sentenced to a jail term, but it was clear that I hadn't committed any crime. I did not deserve anything that I

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 97: A DEAL WITH THE ENEMY

Tanya's Pov We got to the room where we had had the previous conversation. I frowned, seeing Enzo on the very same seat as he had when he gave me the previous proposal that I had refused. I took a moment to think about what I thought of the deal now. Would I agree to it if he proposed it again? We started eating in silence, me trying to be a little cultured even though I was ravenous. It was as if I was never going to get a good meal in my life again, and from the way that things were going, it was possible. He ate like he was some prince. I tried not to watch him or show any emotion at all. It was challenging when I knew that soon, the fragile peace between all of us would be destroyed by the one question he would ask me. "Do you know what I want?" he asked me after a while. I wished he would stay silent and wanted to do so myself, but I knew that it could not continue that way for me. Soon, he would lose his patience with my silence, and then I would be a goner. "Yes," I

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    EPILOGUE

Rodrigo POV I had to admit she was one of the strongest I had ever met. For some reason, she could keep up and pace with me, and that was also because she was pregnant. I felt happy knowing we had many more rounds like that to come in our lifetime. If that was the only compensation for the loss accumulated throughout the last couple of weeks, it was worth it. I got up from the bed, finally. After such a long time, I had been determined to leave her as soon as possible, but somehow, she had convinced me to stay. And stay I did, throughout the night, over to the following day, and even now. I didn't want to leave. Even though we didn't have sex throughout the entire night, the kisses and hugs we lovingly gave each other were enough to keep me excited all the way. She made a sleepy sound as I slipped away carefully, not wanting her to know I was going. Who knew how long I would stay back if she wanted me to? After all, I couldn't resist once, and most likely, I wouldn't be able t

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 149

Tanya's Pov By the time I met Dante, I found that he was making some phone calls. I had a sudden feeling that they were preemptory ones because he was planning something. I observed his expression for a moment, and upon seeing the grim expression on his face, I realised that he intended to leave. "Don't tell me..." I said once he was done with the call. He looked at me before managing a smile. "We are not safe anymore, not even me. I should have thought about it earlier. It's rather annoying that I had to figure it out from Rodrigo." I looked at him in surprise. I could vaguely remember Rodrigo telling me to tell him about this. Did that not mean he was not supposed to know about it yet, as I had not told him yet? "I asked him about where he was off to when I saw him acting all weird and uptight," he told me with a roll of his eyes. "Honestly, things don't always need a serious cryptic explanation." "Where is he now?" I asked, feeling like I was being left behind. I

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 148

Tanya's POV It took me a lot of serious searching to find him. Once or twice, I thought he was in the house and that Dante was bluffing. But after remembering the severe expression on his face, I decided to make sure that Rodrigo wasn't here before I went over to accuse Dante of lying. I found him eventually in a secluded room, staring into space despondently as if he were depressed by something. "Hey, Rodrigo," I said, my voice becoming very soft as I stepped in. Something told me he didn't want anybody to enter at this time; he wanted the moment of silence to himself. But I found myself intruding anyway. It had been so long since I had seen him, and I wanted to ensure he was well. He glanced my way, but suddenly, a light entered his eyes. He didn't look angry—wasn't angry like I thought he would be at my sudden appearance. Instead, he seemed happy. It made me smile, knowing that I still brought joy to him despite everything that had happened. The light in his eyes faded

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 147

Rodrigo's POV I didn’t protest anymore, deciding to hope for the best and let everything play out by itself. Tanya wouldn’t die; I knew it, and as long as she was alive, everything was fine despite everything I had lost and would lose. I had no other option than to let the driver take the car over to my mansion. I was shocked when he was granted access. It seemed that Tanya and Dante had modified the security system while I was gone. “It’s all well,” I thought to myself as I entered my room immediately after getting out of the car. I didn’t want to talk to anybody—though there was nobody for me to speak to in the first place. I needed some time to myself, time to meditate on everything that had happened so suddenly, and also some time to figure out what the next course of action should be. I was before my laptop, typing furiously as if my life depended on it because it probably did. I wouldn’t let the same situation repeat itself in my life more than once. But then again, it

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 146

Rodrigo's POV It took me quite a while before I realised that it was an ally standing in front of me. It wasn’t just any random person; it was Dante. “What are you doing here?” I asked him, raising an eyebrow. There was a good chance that he was here to help, but he could also have his motives. I wasn’t foolish enough to think that we were friends. We weren’t. “What does it look like I’m doing here?” he asked. “Saving you.” He went behind me, and with one swift motion, I felt the ropes on my hands slack. He had cut me loose. I looked at him again, realising that he wasn’t bluffing. It started to make sense now; he most likely had taken out all the men guarding me, one after the other, though they thought it was some accident. “Follow me,” he said. “I’ll get you out of here.” I didn’t want to accept his help, but I had no choice in the current situation. Since he had been able to manoeuvre his way through the many criminals with guns, there was a good chance he could do

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 145

Rodrigo's POV They were closing in on me. What's more, I knew it when I saw how everyone fighting around me kept an eye on me. I knew that it would be tough for me to escape. It didn't stop me from trying to free myself, though. Constantly, while they were fighting, I tried my best to loosen the ropes. I knew I would have a better chance of survival if I could utilise every skill at my disposal, and I couldn't do that if I were tied up. I was almost there; I could feel it already. All the ropes were nearly gone, and I was secure enough from the bullets flying across the place like rain. If I kept my cool and continued the process diligently, I would easily succeed in freeing myself. Then, I could either join the fight or escape entirely. Suddenly, I saw a man beside me, pointing a gun right at my head. "Don't move anymore," he said. "Do you think you can escape now?" I froze, realising that he wasn't bluffing; he would shoot me if I did anything funny. "Look here," I sta

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 144

Tanya's POV The leader I was to meet turned out to be Diego himself. Well, what did I expect? Seeing him, all the rage and frustration I felt as a result of how things had turned out came rushing back. After all the threats and everything, the man decided to kill me anyway. What, then, was the point of making me give him the flash disc? If he would fight to get me out of there, why didn't he do that from the start? I glared at him in annoyance as I opened my mouth to speak. From the look in his eyes, he already knew what kind of reaction to expect from me after what had happened. I only hoped he had a reasonable explanation awaiting. "Why?" I asked finally. It was only one word, but it carried the weight of all the emotions raging through me. I wanted to scream at him, to fight him—a couple of punches from me to him would release some of the anger and frustration. But somehow, I didn't move. "It's hard to explain and even harder to understand," he told me in a small voice. "But

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 143

Tanya's pov I couldn't understand why he would want me to hand it over to him if he had the power to threaten him. He made it seem as though he could keep him in check, but if he could, then why did I have to give him the document? Why couldn't he just break the both of us out of here so we could forget about the entire incident? All those questions were bubbling in my head, wanting desperately to burst out, but I kept them in. I knew when to speak and stay silent, and now was the typical time to remain silent. I couldn't precisely question him when he showed up out of nowhere to save my sorry ass. "Do we have a deal?" Diego asked him. From the amount of time he was spending to think about it alone, I knew that he had no intentions whatsoever to let me go out of here alive in the first place. The realisation made me even more glad of Dante's intervention, though I could not still understand many things about his actions and why he was doing them that way. Maybe it was not so

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 142

Tanya's POV The shooting started unexpectedly. I was still thinking when he finished counting down, and his men automatically started firing at us. The man named John took cover immediately, narrowly missing getting shot himself. His men took arms as well, and it was a free-for-all. I tried to find Rodrigo in the commotion. It was a perfect chance for me to escape with him and forget all that was happening. But suddenly, I felt a hand cover my mouth. I struggled, but to no avail. The person holding me was too strong for me to resist. Finally, when I stopped struggling, I felt his grip relax a little as he turned me to him. I already knew it was not Rodrigo before I saw his face, and when I didn't recognise him, I got my confirmation. He put a finger to his lips, indicating that I shouldn't scream. If I had known what was going to happen next, I would have because suddenly, he brought out some ropes and tied my hands behind me. I attempted to scream now, but it was too
