CHAPTER 95

Geneveive Tessa Robert

‘You really gave him a showdown, girl. What are you planning on doing?’

I was in a cafe sharing a plate of chocolate cake with Vera while telling her everything that happened with Kyle, including the threats and his promise to show up with evidence.’

‘I am going to make things harder for him at D.K. Company. I own half of the company, and at the moment, the board of executives is on my side, while Kyle has just a few people on his side. I just need to make him lose some major deals, and maybe that will humble him. What do you think?’

Vera dropped her fork, looking up and saying, ‘I am with you. It’s obvious you gave him a lot of sleepless nights after California, and I am certain he’s still not over you, so if you give him something to worry about, maybe his arrogance will reduce a tad bit.’

I agreed. ‘Exactly. He’s so arrogant and still believes he could just order me around. I wish you were there to see how he was behaving, Vera! I also need security around my kids, in case he snoops around and tries any rubbish.’

‘I will inform my friend at the security firm and see if they can find something for you. Just take everything easy and relax, okay? Or do you want us to hit the spa tomorrow? It’s Saturday, and no one will be going to work, including your parents, so they can watch over your kids.’

‘Hmmm. I think that will be great. It’s been long since we hung out, and I desperately need to massage my bones. These past few weeks have been terrible!’

She nodded, typing into her phone, ‘Great. I just booked us spots at the spa. You will talk with your parents, right?’

I smiled, squeezing her hands a bit'.'Thank you, Vera. You’re the best. So, how’s your new catch?’

Vera had taken care of one of my cousins who came visiting from Luxembourg. They had been cool as birds, and their friendship was growing steadily into a love story. Although it was a long-distance relationship because my cousin Murphy had returned to Luxembourg, he had promised to relocate after he finished a project he was working on.

‘It’s going fine, babe!’ She squealed, taking out her phone. ‘He will be completing his project next week, and then he will be here in the United Kingdom during the weekend. I think Murphy could be the guy I might end up marrying, Tessa. He clicks all my boxes.’

I chuckled, ‘You and that checklist. I thought you thrashed after your last open relationship. Anyway, don’t answer that. I just want you to be happy and maybe finally forgive James. It’s been nine years of indirect malice, girl.’

She shrugged. ‘It’s not nine years, but five years since you relocated here. Also, I thought, I made myself clear that I have forgiven him, but we can’t be chummy, not now and not ever.’

‘But, Vera. He’s my brother, and I know James. He has completely changed from being a jerk and a bully back then. I am sure if you truly forgive him, the weight you carry on his behalf will be over. Trust me when I say that whatever grudge you have for him is unnecessary.’

‘Alright, senior sis. I will have a word with James, and maybe we will finally bury the grudge for good.’

‘Cool, thank you.’ I glanced at my wrist watch. ‘Oh dear, I have a meeting with my creative directors in twenty minutes. I will give you a call, okay?’

She smiled. ‘I will, thank you. Also, I forgot to mention that Ava might receive a divorce paper soon, and you know how she can be, so be prepared. We don’t want any stories at all.’

I nodded, taking the last sip of my champagne. If Ava had tried anything, she was going to receive twice as much of whatever she served. I wasn’t the one who destroyed her marriage, but she did that to herself. It was also obvious that her husband was not interested in keeping the marriage. The typical Kyle was still after kids, and Ava couldn’t give it to him. Meanwhile, he somehow believed his ex-wife belonged to him, and he would do everything to make her return. The chances of Ava ever getting Kyle back were slim.

_

The twins kept me up all night, and by daybreak, I was set up in the emergency room as the doctors checked them. Mysteriously, their health had gone from bad to worse.

I tried not to get worried, but the longer I waited and saw doctors stroll out of the emergency room, the more I thought about the worst that could happen to them. I stood up, prepared a cup of coffee, and returned to my seat. It was almost an hour when James showed up with my parents. I told them everything, and they reassured me that nothing bad would happen to the kids. The doctor came in after an hour.

I gasped, getting up. ‘What happened to my kids? Why did you take so long?’

The doctor led me to sit down while my parents and James watched us. ‘Those are my parents and brother, James. Anything you have to say, please go ahead.’

He nodded, apparently glad I understood his curious gaze.

‘Good evening, everyone. I will get straight to the point. The kids are alright currently but are dehydrated, Tessa. You know what could have caused that?’

I bit my lips. Of course, I knew. I had changed the kids timetable against Estella’s protest, and now that decision has landed my kids in the hospital.

I skipped the doctor’s question. ‘Are they okay now?’

He smiled a bit and said, "Yes, they are, but you need to change their diet plans.’

A few hours later, I stepped outside while thinking about the kids and their father. Kyle couldn’t know them right now. They were mine alone.
